  2. GJWilcox's will plan on attending, my family lives in Buena Vista so we won't need to camp. There are lots of caches around the Arkansas Valley so we won't be without entertainment!
  3. On another kinda sorta related note... I read an article within the past week from the Chaffee County Times newspaper from Buena Vista Colorado that a couple out geocaching stumbled upon a METH LAB along some dirt road. They, of course, alerted the authorities to investigate and clean up. Imagine if the container had leaked and sent whatever people put in Meth into our ground water supplies. Maybe we should start carrying hand-guns and wearing bullet proof vests just in case when we're out on the trail...
  4. I kept getting hung up on the minutes and seconds of the degree, the explanations I found don't help me figure a square when talking about a section of a circle. AAHHH! Knowing the minute is a nautical mile and second is within that mile makes the most sense to me. Now I know if I need to increase my seconds by 4 I'll know which way to turn and about how far to go. We'll also try Google Earth for road location although it seems like alot of the areas we explore in Colorado are not ones that are mapped closely in Google Earth, we can't seem to zoom close enough. Our last cache we did experiment with the goto arrow function and it worked as far as what my husband said since he was 1st to the site. Thanks for all your help, your suggestions have been most helpful! Now if you all could cure my insomnia life would be great!
  5. Honey, does my avatar look fat?
  6. So we just did our 11th cache with much success so far but trying to figure what the GPS coordinates mean escapes us. When it actually comes down to figuring out if we need to head east or west or north or south seems to be trial and error, walk a few steps and see if the numbers get bigger or smaller. So here's my question: Can anyone give me an idea of what the seconds and minutes mean (degrees I can figure at the very least from a topo map)? If I need to go from N38.210.38 to 39.211.45 do I go north? And same for east/west, do the minutes and seconds always get bigger if you go west? Maybe it's a very simple explanation but on 1 particular cache we did this weekend we were on the wrong side of a rock outcropping. And is there an easy way to try to narrow down a cache on a topo map, if I can find the quadrant we can get pretty close. But then to narrow down the area we can't do it. The areas we go hunting on have tons of forest roads and sometimes we can't spend an afternoon toodling around looking for the closest road! Any help would be much appreciated!
