  1. Nice one - thanks! (Not that this would have helped for this cache that had been active for a while... but still - good tip! )
  2. Thanks Keystone. I wasn't sure whether you knew it had been retracted or were just assuming. The language was clear, but I did not know the authority from which you wrote. Too often on forums people go throwing their words about without authority. A little bit of knowledge for some people can be dangerous/cause trouble! I stand by my statement that I believe that a retracted cache should not show as being unpublished, but rather as retracted, as it is misleading. If I had seen that the cache had been retracted then I wouldn't be asking (potentially) silly or redundant questions. Cheers and thanks again.
  3. Can you indeed confirm that the listing was retracted? It seems to me to be a strange act to retract the listing that had at least 22 finds that I am aware of. I am guessing the cache owner was embarrassed by the fact that the cache may have breached some guidelines and didn't want the cache to show on their record. This fact aside, should the cache show up as being a retracted listing, rather than unpublished. Having it come up as unpublished is misleading. It was published and has now been retracted. Shouldn't it show as retracted? Also, from a PQ perspective, will the find for this cache download or not? If it does, how is it shown? As retracted or archived or other? Cheers.
  4. Whilst looking in my GSAK database I was trying to refresh all the data and could not refresh one cache in particular. GC333ZE It had previously been archived. Going to the site it now reports as being "unpublished". I talked to a friend of mine who had previously found the cache and it no longer appears within his stats of found caches. The cache does not appear on the list of caches by the cache owner. Is this a general bug in the system, or has something strange happened to this particular cache? I didn't think it was possible to completely remove caches like this. Cheers, Cam
  5. This time/date difference when logging drives me crazy. It effectively forces me to go back and edit a large majority of the logs that I make. It takes the fun out of geocaching for me. Makes it more of a chore...
  6. What I find a bit strange is that, whilst c:geo is indeed an open source project, I would have thought it could use the API as long as the key was never distributed. It would obviously need to be included in the compiled, released on Google Play, ready to download to your device application. If the API key was ever released or distributed, then surely Groundspeak could then block it. This would enable other developers, if they wished to take the c:geo source, to apply for their own API key to do their own development. I think that GS not allowing c:geo to use the API on open source grounds is a disingenuous argument. There could always be ways to make it work. Mind you, I think that for cachers to use an application that employs the API they have to be Premium Members. c:geo caters to the masses... Truth may be that c:geo is, and almost always has been, far too good an application (especially pre API) and far and away superior to anything that GS has produced. Now that I've thrown a match on the petroleum soaked geo-pile, I think I'll back slowly away...
  7. In case anyone is unaware, c:geo has now been open sourced and lives in the android market under "c:geo opensource" ~whew~
  8. Well, if nothing else, I'm glad I was able to stimulate some lively discussions, without the usual trollish behaviour that can often be seen on a lot of other forums. So thanks. For those that are interested in actually solving the puzzle, it's for GC13FRZ. But please don't post the answer here. I do really want to work it out for myself. And I'll cop to the fact that working out the methodology sometimes is part of the puzzle, and therefor perhaps poor form to ask for assistance. Thanks for pointing that out Starbrand... sufficiently chastised. I note with some satisfaction that there has been some small debate as to how the problem is to be resolved.. and the different methods used and assumed. cadtenchy = yep - you were right. Sorry, CD was 38 and EF was 45. Transposition error when WAY too tired and in a hurry. i WILL work this one out eventually. Cheers all. Cam EDIT - ATXTracker, clearly I was writing my post up at the same time you were. Thanks for the welcoming words. I don't bother checking up on people, as I generally don't have much time for negativity in my life. You see, I'm already married!! Just kiddin....
  9. The values you gave are unlikely, so I'm going to assume different values:A=1 B=2 C=3 D=4 E=5 F=6 As MooseJawSpruce suggested, it's just basic math: S38 AB.E(E-2)E E146 (C-1)(C+1).(D+1)F(D+E) = S38 12.5(5-2)5 E146 (3-1)(3+1).(4+1)6(4+5) = S38 12.5(3)5 E146 (2)(4).(5)6(9) = S38 12.535 E146 24.569 Thanks for this actually constructive feedback. I understand why you would assume different answers. The answers for A and B are however definitely double digit. Should I perhaps add the two together? Hmmm... Also, I wasn't sure whether this was truly a mathematical quiz or not.... I tried COUNTLESS combinations of these and have failed to come up with anything remotely near where to point should be, so clearly I just don't get it. And as for it being considered "poor form to ask for help with the puzzle caches" I wasn't seeking an answer, more a hint as to the methodology I should be looking at. I want to solve it, ultimately, by myself, but as I said... I'm new at this. So, is it poor form to doing this with a team? Isn't that just a group helping each other? Sheesh....
  10. Hi folks. Complete newbie here and would appreciate some help. Trying to solve a puzzle similar to below Answer = A Answer = B Answer = CD Answer = EF? The cache is located at S38 AB.E(E-2)E E146 (C-1)(C+1).(D+1)F(D+E) It the answers are.... A = 15 B = 23 C = 38 D = 45 Then how am I supposed to solve these to get the correct co-ords? And just so you know, I've changed the answers and cache location slightly to protect the innocent, and at least give me a puzzle to solve, once I understand how the tool works! Thanks in advance/anticipation/slight embarrassment. Cheers
