  1. I just had to repace my hard drive, crashed so I'm starting all over. My biggest conern is getting GSAK back on my computer. Who do I contact to get a copy? I really don't want to pay for it twice. Appreciate any advice you folks have, Thanks in advance
  2. No. No meaning it isn't against GC policy? Or not just another trade item? I was curious about this too. I would think it would be allot of fun and add some excitement for FTF geocachers. Matter of fact, I was thinking of doing something similar on my first cache I place.
  3. I did a Google search for "how to use a compass" the other day and came up with several nice tutorials. Google and search are my best friends! Thanks RedZeppelin. I found a short but informative piece on how to use a compass. Sad that I waited this long to learn, but never to late. Thanks for guiding me in the right direction.
  4. That's a happy ending story, Glad you you made it back and was able to read your compass. It's stories like this that make me wish I hadn't been sleeping thru the compass part when I was in Boy Scouts. I use the compass on mu GPSr to guide me to the cache, but honestly have no clue on how to use a compass on it's own and can't understand how a stand alone compass can help achieve that goal. Does anyone know of a course I can take on-line, or information that can provide me with enough training so I can use a real compass? It's geocacheing that has me wanting this and could just possible save me too. I get in the mountains quite a bit, always mark my truck before I head out. So far no problems, but I can see where I could easily get lost if I got turned around and lost Sat's. Appreciate any advice.
  5. I'm now in there, thanks for the link.
  6. Hi dwayne23, I had the same questions a while back and learned how to put to all together useing GSAK on my computer and CacheMate software on my palm. I got the information from this site. http://65.34.18.106/content.php?article.15 It just took some reading and a couple hours to figure it all out. A couple hours for me, but will probably take much less time for a normal computer kind of person. I just had a learning,,No, A heck of a time with Palm. But now that I have got past that, it's a piece a cake. Good luck, you will really enjoy it. There are some cost involved for GSAK and CacheMate. I can't recall how much but I think together it's less than 25-30 bucks. Best $ I have spent in years.
  7. Thanks NightPilot, Why didn't I think of that! I went to "Display Options" and it was set in the middle. I cranked it to Max and I really belive this will help. I'll have to check it tommrow since it's 5pm right now and in Montana, that's just about sundown this time of year. But I did go outside and put it back at midpoint and screen was hard to see, then set it at max and much better! Thank you for the help, It may just cut down my curse words in half! Not really. only curse when really needed
  8. Just last week I bought a Zire 31 from eBay....new in original packaging for ~$50. Very similar to Z22 in that it has the low-res (160x160) color screen. Mine has less internal memory (Z31 16mb, Z22 32mb) but does have an SD slot and supports MP3. The reason I chose the Z31 was the SD slot; 500 caches use several mb on the card, but using Cachemate's data card support I see every detail with only 180k loaded on the internal memory. Make sure you look at the actual units and compare screen resolution. The low-res does just fine for me now, but I'm sure it'll become a pain when I get a little older and my eyesight isn't as good. I have a Zire 31 also. It does everything I wanted it to do. I even listen to music with it. But, My only complaint is that It's almost imposible to see the screen in daylight. I have to cover myself with whatever I have, shirt, coat or crawl under my truck to get some shade. It's very frustrating.
  9. Thanks folks, Now I feel better about what I was going to do. Experience goes a long ways and I always get help from this forum. Now, on to deleting! Thanks again.
  10. I just have a simple question, need advice. I have to many caches in my GPSr and GSAK. I would like to clean this up. My question is, Can I simply delete all waypoints in GSAK and the same on my GPSr, and then create a new pocket querie, load into GSAK and transfer to my GPSr? There are so many waypoints that I will never visit since my previous queries were in 100 mile radius. Plus there are many that are no longer there or archived. My thoughts are to delete every cache in GSAK and GPSr. Then request a new pocket querie for all caches I have NOT found, but within 50 miles instead of 100, maybe even closer. Then dump into GSAK and load to my GPSr. At the same time, delete all caches on my palm, and load the new files. Does this make since to anyone? I just want to do some cleaning/organizing. I would sure appreciate any advice regarding this. I can't find the information I'm looking for in the manual for my 60cs, Thanks.
  11. I use GSAK on my computer and Cachemate on my palm. I learned how to put it all together reading this artical, http://65.34.18.106/content.php?article.15 I hope this helps.
  12. I did the same thing this past summer. I pushed my GPSr into a small opening in my dash. The wrist strap must have be on top of the screen and it left a rather large gouge in my screen protector (Invisible Shield) The gouge went away but it took about two weeks to do so. I just watched it slowly disappear each day.
  13. That's just about the way I did mine on my 60cs. Filled a soup bowl with warm water, added a drop of dish soap and just dropped it in. Layed it on my very clean screen, adjusted it to where it was perfectly placed. Then used a credit card to smooth it out and get rid of any bubbles. Dabbed the excess water off with a paper towel and let it dry for around 24 hours and it came out perfect first time. I can't imagine not having it, as it has saved scratches any times. Can't even tell it's there. A must have addition.
  14. I bought a zire 31 last year, I use GSAK and cachemate for my palm. I was totally lost until I ran across this atrical. It got me through the tough parts and now I'm so called "paperless" I hope it helps you out as well. http://65.34.18.106/content.php?article.15
  15. Can someone explain the steps I need to add this to my GPSr. I can't seem to find it in the manual, or maybe I'm to lazy to look harder.
  16. Wow i just checked this price, its come WAY down. I paid $500 the third week after release and its down to $279... I guess thats what happens when you buy new technology. Whoops, sorry about the double post, operator error, Train Man, just curious where you found it for $279? Thanks.

  19. Swink Family Thanks for your quick reply. I have the 60cs with 56mb memory So far I have never encountered and issues with the small amount of memory it has. It just takes some time to tinker with it if I'm going long trips. I do think I will have to pay the $75.00 for the upgade, but there was no mention of that in the e-mail.. I have allot of faith in Garmin though so I'm not to worried, I just cannot find the date I upgraded to City Select v7 or maybe it doesn't even matter since I'm going with a new version, ie Navigator. I'll just keep my fingers crossed until then.
  20. Depends on when you activated your CS7. If it was after May this year, you'll probably get a free ride. Otherwise you'll have to pay. Dumb question coming- How do I find out when I activated to V7? I just don't have any record or e-mail to tell me when. The e-mail I got from Garmin mentioned nothing about a $75.00 fee,,so I assumed it would be free. From what I have read so far, there isn't much of a "this is cool" factor upgrading to Navigator 8, so If I do have to pay the $75.00. I may just skip that part and continue on with city select 7. Appreciate any advice regarding this, Thanks
  21. Eight mile hike, four miles each way up and down hills, about 95 degrees, I think that was my limit. But I'm getting old and lazy these days!
  22. There was a thread started back in 2004 concerning the 60CS GPSr that got me through some questions and really helped me out. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...160&hl=60cs Hope it helps you out as well. Wrench
  23. I have the 60CS also and I'm picking up sat #48 and 51. Didn't do anything other than turn it on and there they were. Mayby I'm just lucky. But then I don't know much about this stuff but it seems to be working just fine.
