  1. I posted a topic about small business and Geocaching. I have been to many events and have read about events in other area that are hosted by the business. I hoped to have a discussion about the topic, but it was seen as "Advertising" and the topic was closed. Here is the topic that was closed: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=244116 Why is it wrong to bring up a topic of issue? I would like to see a little democracy in these forums. Since business uses Geocaching to sell and promote their business. Like this up and coming event in my area... Here is a local event GC233XR Hosted by the business and selling objects from the business? The last event I was at, was hosted by the owner of a Boston Pizza. If we are going to be so black and white lets see all the cards and open the topics in the forum. As a new business owner and I long time cacher, I would love to have Geocachers come to my business and buy my products, all I wanted was to talk about the ethics and rules of it all and that topic was shut down....
  2. I have seen business cards or gift cards for Tim Hortons in geocaches and many things that maybe seem as advertising for a product or business. I never really liked the "commercial" stuff, but I started a Paint your own Pottery Business "(advertisement removed by moderator)" and would like to have a geocaching connection. But I wasn't sure what would be exceptable? Here is a list of things I have been thinking about and wanted to hear peoples feedback on our paint your own pottery studio GeoCaching ideas.... 1) Pottery theme geocache near the store? 2) My company gift cards for first to find caches? 3) My company Travel Bugs? 4) A Geocaching event at the studio (paint travel bugs, paint geocaching mugs, etc) 5) Set up a travel bug hotel in the studio? Our website: (advertisement removed by moderator)
  3. I am coming to Baltimore for a Medical Conference. While I am there I hope to do some geocaching. I will be stay in the city from March 5th till March 11th. Two Questions: What caches are a must do in your city? Any plans to hold an event during that time, or even just an evening of coffee to trade TB? I look forward to the trip and seeing what your city has to offer! thebadger
  4. I never really got into this new geo-activity. Travel Bugs should travel! I only log bugs that I move.
  5. What cellphones from Aliant work with the new cellphone feature on geocaching.com? I am looking at a new cellphone, but have no idea what to get! Any ideas or suggestions....I realy like the new gpsr cellphones that now out! cheers the badger
  6. What are the first caches in each province? I would like to travel to each province and do the first cache in each. Which ones were first in your area?

    Cache Review

Could we have more people reviewing Caches? Or even a back up plan for when life gets busy. I am sure it's hard for the reviewer to look at every new cache that goes out.
  8. I was hoping to show a link to the article, but it wasn't published online. In todays ChronicleHerald (HFX NS-Tuesday Feb 14th, 2006) they talked about a park in our city that is popular to the gay community. "...On Dec 17 playing global positioning game called geocahing - a sort of high-tech orienteering treasure hunt - when he was accosted by a middle-aged man....." It's unfortunate that GeoCaching is getting connect to bad press. What do people who have never played geocaching after reading this story? If I read this story I wouldn't think of geocahing as a family activity, and wouldn't want my kids doing it.
  9. Could you have two cache files loaded in the Google earth program? Maybe it’s for your other personalities
  10. I found this topic thread very interesting since yesterday I did a cemetery cache. It was a very interesting find since the grave yard had long been forgotten and over grown. I enjoy the history and writings on gravestones and always look for an old cemetery when I travel…unfortunately my wife doesn’t share my same curiosity and usually waits in the car. This topic thread got me thinking about my grandfather’s gravesite. He was joker and loved to play practical jokes. http://www.kelcosupply.com/cem/page2.html
  11. Leaving a cool FTF- Can we give a Premium Member and leave that in the cache?
  12. I have done lots of caches, but havn't hide one yet. I want to make sure that the caches I hide are good, and safe for the seekers. This location may not be the best place and thanks for everyones feedback. I don't think you should unscreew any powerbox...but this is just PVC pipe with a cover. Thanks everyone...
  13. I got an ipod mini and would like to be able to update my GeoCache notes to my ipod. Any suggestions to make this happen, without having to copy and paste the text.
  14. Maybe GeoCaching.com could add another listing under type, "small bomb"? Or maybe we could set up a new site "www.bombcache.com" I don't think the crazy person who places a cache to do harm will take a correct picture of the "really" container. Good people fallow rules, the bad don't!
  15. This is an interesting story.....but as a paramedic with his ear to the ground when it comes to medical stories. This one never hit my wire! Without the bomb, and with an added wi-fi transmittion added to the camera this could be a cool webcam cache. Great idea to add the motion detector, to fire up the cam. I would hate to see a story like this put fear into the GeoCaching community....just look at how Halloween is going.

    Mac Users

It's about time..... MACWORLD EXPO, SAN FRANCISCO/January 10, 2006/PR Newswire — Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today announced that it will immediately begin to make its line of GPS and mobile electronics devices compatible with Mac OS X version 10.4 "Tiger." This makes Garmin the first major GPS designer and manufacturer to announce direct support for Mac OS X. ..bla..bla..bla.. By the end of 2006, Garmin intends to have made all its popular hardware and software applications Mac OS X compatible. This includes the ability to load MapSource map data to Garmin units via a Mac, as well as waypoint and trip planning applications. Additionally, the Garmin nRoute application will allow Powerbook and iBook users to turn their laptop into a powerful street navigation tool with Garmin’s GPS 10 or GPS 18 sensors. http://www.garmin.com/pressroom/corporate/011006.html The ability to work with MapSource will be a big step for macusers......

    Gps Pictures

Whenever I hunt for a geocache, I always trace my route. One time an actually made a star, a perfect Star! It made start thinking about making pictures with waypoint as hints to where the cache is located. Example: With one centre waypoint, and four outer waypoints you could create an "X" that could mark the spot. I think this could be an interesting way to leave hints.
  18. I am sure this question has been asked, but until the search isn’t back up.... I like mundane articles that you see in your normal everyday life that is disguised out in the open/ for example , a power outlet box that is attached to a utility pole, making it appear to be part of the pole, when in fact it doesn't even have any wires going to it. What rules apply to Nova Scotia Power Poles, or any utility pole? Can I add a small power box to a utility pole? Will GeoCaching.com pass my micro cache? I am sure that if I asked the power company, they would say no. But I see lots of advertisements on poles and they don’t seem to care.
  19. I got some peanuts...but no GPS! But I did read the small print!
  20. We meet up with another couple in NYC and ended up spending the afternoon with them geocaching. It was great fun. But when we couldn't find a cache, I took a moment to sit down and think about the hunt. I didn't figure out where the cache was but it was amazing watching my new friends hunt...and no one seemed to care that they digging in the bushes and making a big mess. It was rather funny to watch!
  21. ya I tried to find this information via the search, but it was down. If the website database could look at the type of geocaches you had done in the past then they could create a suggested interest list in given regions. Much like software at online book stores or music site.
  22. I had been interesting in hiking to this remote area in my community. It took about 3 hours to hike into the cache on a small trail in tundra like woods. I had planned on finding the cache and then eating lunch...got a new small stove for Christmas and I just had to try it out, it worked great! After lunch I packed up my stuff and started my way out. But then out of know where I just started feeling very uneasy, and kept looking behind me as if I am being fallowed. This wasn't my first time hiking and spent most of my youth in the woods, so I normally feel very much at home in the middle of know where. But for some reason I felt really paranoid of something behind me. It took a good hour of walking before I felt like I was along again. When I got home and uploaded my pictures to the computer, my wife’s friend notices lenses flares in some of the pictures. She asked me how I felt when I took that picture....I gave her a wired look and asked her what is she talking about! She then told me that "orbs" like that are spirits, that where hiking with me. Three pictures I took have white orbs in them in the area where I felt very paranoid and wired. There are many things that can cause what I think are "lenses flares", but I don't have an explanation of what got my head spinning in the woods? Maybe it was the mushrooms I found and added to my soup. Here is the cache: Marsh Lake GeoCache
  23. Many times when we travel we always try to plan sometime geocaching. But most times we can only get one or two in during our afternoon or weekend trips away. It would be great if you could search for cool or interesting caches. I would like to be able to rate a cache, by how interesting or popular the spot is. If I could visit one cache in NYC it would be ........?? The good, the bad, and the ugly caches. Which ones do you want to do if you only have a couple of hours to kill?
  24. Nova Scotia Paramedic for 12 years....Plus the host of EMSLive.com a EMS podcast. www.emslive.com
  25. ya, I got a the etrex Legend C...plus a mac! I it seems that Garmin doesn't support macs and only suggests getting a PC or running vPC. In my mind that wasn't a solution. I write them as often as I can asking when they will start supporting Macs again with the legend C. The more we ask the great the chance we will see more support. Or maybe not.....? The software I use GPSBabel to upload my way points for GeoCaching. http://www.gpsbabel.org/index.html Currently the Legend C isn't a great GPS for Mac users
