  3. there is a big sign at my local dump telling me that everything in belongs to the local council and taken anything is theft. herein lies the problem If you approach the guys on duty and ask they are usually ok about it they get a bit jobsworth if you try and take any electrical items etc because of the danger aspect but door seals ar in no way any danger unless you tie them round your mutts neck as a lead!
  4. Thats my secret - go to your nearest recycling centre otherwise knonown as TIP and you will find loads of fridges and freezers just rip off the door seals and hey pesto lots of free magnets
  5. If this is any good to anyone let me know and I will share the secret of where these can be found
  6. Thanks for the replies so far guys, I am now starting to think to myself am I getting confused with paperless caching and downloading all to the PDA? Does that or would that make more sense?
  7. Using GSAK does ring a bell but what is the process? arent there restictions on pocket quiries, sorry if this is a dumb question but I know I read a complete tutorial somewhwere. 8. As some of you will know I am new to posting and to finding as for the long delay in joining and starting work that is on another thread on here somewhere ( I 'm sure some techo geek can add the link) anyway to the question - I have been trawling these boards for ages and ages and found lots of good stuff, The bit I am now interested in is I remember reading somewhere how to download all of the caches in the UK I think it had to be done over several days!! well now that I have my shiny new 60CS I would of course like to do just that so can someone please either tell me how its done or point me to the thread I found all that time ago. and as an additional point if I find a useful thread can I bookmark/save it for later reference? Big thanks to all you veterans out there that help dummies like me!!
  9. Great News - It has finally arrived!!! Thanks for ALL your comments and by the way I could not help but go straight out and play, and I can say just based on a quick test run it is the DOGS !!! maybe I will get around to looking at the book of instructions one day?? Thanks once again and I maybe back soon for some help you never know?
  10. Thanks for actually reading my original post and posting your reply, as you can see I am a newbie here and dont really want to get off on the wrong foot by getting all high and mighty! some guys did respond directly to my question so thanks to those concerned, as for the rest of the replies which seemed to be general advice about a range of hardware I'm sure that they were meant in the best of intention and at least they did offer to be of some help so thanks to you too. My original question still stands though if you have any advice specifically regarding the GPSMAP 60CS for a newbie (thats new to the hardware and to the world of GC) please post any and all tips thanks a million!!
  11. Having just done my first 11 without a GPSr I thought it was high time to get me one, so along I pop to that great auction site in the sky and came away with what I think is an ok model for now. I would be very pleased to hear from all you old veterans out there firstly what you think of my purchase and more importantly any good tips and or essential knowledge in using it, Thanks in advance. By the way is there anything else I shoulg get? The purchase was for a Garmin GPSMAP 60CS with extra leads and power leads and City navigation software European v7 - comments please BTW price = £150
  12. Thanks for thr reply, I know how the confusuion took place, I was just waiting for Kev to clarify his answer before the obvious pile of questions "whats the REM" ayway no hard feelings it just that us military types get a bit worked up about our regimental/corps history - consider rant closed
  13. Saying that the Royal Engineers is the same as the REME is like saying Skoda is the same as rolls royce coz they are both cars!!!!!!!! THE ANSWER IS NOT THE REME MUESEUM WHEREVER IN THE COUNTRY IT IS, I DO THINK THAT KEV SHOULD HAVE CREDIT FOR THE RIGHT ANSWER EVEN THOUGH IT WAS NOT MADE CLEAR "REM" BTW THE ROYAL ENGINEERS GAVE BIRTH TO THE GOD dadgum REME - BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!
  14. I have read various threads and topics regarding plcement ( I note the advice to find 10 first) the question I need help with from all you old hands is: is permision always needed ie public space/park etc who should be approached ie the job title not name within organizations is there blanket cover for certain areas of the country ( my interest at the moment is Kent) How do you approach/explain to private landowers what GC is all about What is the sucess rate with private/public landowners Thanks in advance I'm sure this will attract lots of comments
  15. Platform 2 of Waterloo station nope - not that waterloo
  16. As long as you dont feel that it would be in bad taste, how about something (TB) from VA Tech just as an act of remberance and love! I think it would be great to spread something around like this and then when its found pehaps spend a few moments in quiet reflection before passing on. Just a thought!
  17. just waiting for kev to carify his answer, and hopefully award a ding to someone!! BTW if I hide a cache in Kent and asked your student to look for it in Berkshire would that wind him up???
