  1. I had two different DNFs for this one very near our house. I spent hours looking through the bushes for this little pill bottle. I gave up! Two weeks later, the wife and I went out walking the dogs and as we passed by the GZ I told her about my misfortune on this. She is not into caching, but she walked over to the bushes and found the cache in less than 10 seconds! Boy did that made me feel dumb! But the smile on her face was priceless! how is that for the lighter side?
  2. I looked and looked and finally found the perfect place for my cache and when I found it there was a micro there already. Lame! The log had not been signed for over a year, so I signed it. How do i find out if it is the final for a multi or unknown cache or if it has been archived?
  3. True, but I was really just venting after a flooded cache I found today with tangy taffy in it. Last month I found a cache srtewn for yards as the local critters had gotten the find before me. I am curious about something here. What upset you more, the flooded cache or the candy in the flooded cache? Personally, it would have been the flooded cache for me. It's not always the CO's fault. Sometimes the lid doesn't get latched back correctly, but still, it is frustrating. We have had an extremely wet spring here in northern Utah and almost every cache I find has suffered. COs need to make better effort to see their cache is protected from the elements, but when finders put stuff like food in I think its makes it so much worse.

  6. Cabela's has the Garmin 450t ON SALE for less than 300$ in expectaion of the new Montana coming out next month. AMAZING!!!
  7. One thing i have not heard mentioned here is that MOC caches are treated better than GP caches because people who are willing to support the game by buying a membership are willing to take better care of the geocaches they find. Elitist or not. I want responsible geocachers finding my caches and a GC.com premium membership is about as good a filter as you can get.
  8. 1- It invites animals and insects to destroy the cache. 2- If the geocache gets wet inside it destroys all the other items in the cache. 3- Would you eat anything left outside in the heat and cold and wet for who knows how long? Why leave it for someone else? 4- You are supposed to trade with something of equal or greater value, but old moldy cookies are a worthless trade item for the next cacher. You are depleting the value of the cache. DON'T DO IT!
  9. unique tools I thought of: Ladder, Flashlight, Binoculars, Climbing Gear, Fishing Pole, Magnets, mirrors, sun dial, string, plumb bob, box end wrench
  10. I love the idea of having to use a special tool to retrieve a cache once you locate it. When placing my hides I try to add a level of fun by having the finder able to easily locate the cache but not so easily retrieve it. My "geo tools" can be as simple as a reaching tool or a ladder to more unusual devices or implements. So far I have had my finders need a hook on a pole for one cache and binoculars for another (SPOILER!). Im thinking about employing a fishing pole in some way for my next hide. A classic would be a headlamp for a night cache, right? I guess you could include climbing ropes or boats as tools, as well. If you have had to use a unique tool to retrieve a cache I'd love to hear about it.
  11. I am new to the sport but understand that anything that I put into a cache is gone for good. If I can track it it's entertaining, and I can ask the current holder to follow my wishes in regard to the item, but they are in no way required to obey them. Getting upset about it is simply stupid. Sending out a trackable is much like skipping rocks. You throw it and hope it skips a bunch of times and then find another one somewhere to throw. If you wish to safeguard your investment I would say only trade your geocoin for another geocoin that you find of equal value, either at an event or in a cache or online or however. Start by purchasing ten coins and then trade them when you find others that impress you. I do always log it when I pick one up, and that lets the "owner" know I have it. It may take me a few months or even longer to find an equal value coin to trade for it, but if it is in my possession it is really mine, until I choose to move it along. Considering that I traded fairly for it I believe that "fair is fair".
