  1. Well, it would have to be a winter party if you really didn't want to promote an agenda... Seriously, I see absolutely nothing wrong with incorporating a toy drive into your event as long as it isn't the focal point, as Keystone said. In fact, I think it's a great idea. People on the forums tend to be more sensitive about this stuff than normal cachers
  2. I'm only talking about the instant notification of new caches that we receive by email. You can already choose by cache type (traditional, multi, etc...) but within those categories you can only filter by log type and by location. I think you should be able to filter by dif/ter and maybe owner (not likely to happen, I'll admit). But what might be easy is for publish logs to look like this: This way, the user can do the filtering on their end.... my only other option is to turn off the notifications entirely, because I'm really sick of these emails.
  3. I guess if people all named their caches "Joe Schmuck micro #67" that might work. But they don't. The names are all different so I can't filter them. I don't want to ignore the caches. I just don't want to be notified about them.
  4. So, other than the sweet new command line there's not much exciting stuff for a CSx user in here. I thought we'd get to make our POIs actual categories with icons... but no. In fact, if you do organize your POIs into folders, you can no longer select database by the filename like before
  5. This sounds like a huge step in the right direction.... I'm off to download it! EDIT: The command line rocks! Just add the following command to your GSAK macro and automatically load POIs from GSAK! RUNPGM pgm="C:\Garmin\PoiLoader.exe" parms=/silent (use whatever path your poiloader.exe file is in)
  6. I love receiving the instant-notification of new caches in my area... but there are a couple of local hiders who place caches so often that I'm almost sick of the notifications. I'd rather not turn off all the notifications, because I do want to know about the other caches that get published. And, since there is no way to ignore all of one users caches, I was thinking I could set up an email rule in Outlook to not download publish logs with a certain user's name in it. Unfortunately, I can't even do that because publish logs don't contain the cache owner's name. So I have 2 suggestions: 1) Allow for better filtering of notifications. Add some checkbox fields that let us decide which size, terrain and difficulty we receive along with the options for what cache type/log type. Maybe even give us an open field that says "Ignore Caches Owned by: ___________" OR 2) Include the owner name, cache size and D/T ratings in the publish log so that we can filter the emails ourselves through third party mail programs like Outlook. Don't know how hard either of these would be, but they sure would make the instant-notify feature more user friendly.... Thanks!
  7. Great cause. We requested a bug and signed the petition.
  8. Welch is right, you should really take a look at the Pocket Query function (follow Welch's link). You can set them up for extremely advanced searches and save them for later use. You can even preview them right on the GC.com site (from any computer and without 3rd party software) as a list, or even on a Google map! You just found it!
  9. I still would love to see PQ folders! Raine said he'd keep it in mind.... maybe someday?
  10. Sounds like your phone isn't compatible with the WAP site . I used to get that error on my Sanyo 8200... since I switched to my Treo, everything works fine. Check the pinned WAP thread at the top of this board... there are some posts there about which phones do and don't work. EDIT: Yep, it's definitely an issue with Sanyo phones and the WAP site-- try starting with this post... it looks like some folks in the thread have found a workaround... but you'll have to read up on that.
  11. Can we do this with forum posts, too? 'Cause I'd say the "wow factor" of the "bring back virtuals" post is about as high as that of the "lamp post micro".
  12. I would have to add darb, sr.hikers and snapplez to that list!
  13. I think its a great idea! Of course, there are certain issues that come with adding a new log type... but anything to encourage CITO will be good for our communities and good for our hobby!
  14. I was just curious who the best geocacher in the world is. I'm referring to overall greatness-- not just numbers. Thanks!
  15. I apologize for the huge amounts of popcorn and soda that I have consumed today.
  16. My stomach is getting sore from all this popcorn and soda.....
  17. The portal is very interesting... but isn't this the very same portal that is supposed to include Geocaching, Waymarking and that certain something that Lep apparently is prithee to but unable or unwilling to share with the rest of us? If that's the case, then the ? and the portal are two different things.... no? And BTW Derock, you sure have made a lot of guesses for someone who caches with a psychic ... come on, we know you know the real answer... EDIT: to say that I hope TPTB are enjoying my pain.... you can jump in and tell us anytime you know
