  1. They were moved to Waymarking.com which is similar to geocaching and is also run by Groundspeak. You can use your same geocaching user name. Check it out. That's not the reason "why" Virtual geocaches were no longer published. Doesn't matter. It was Groundspeak's decision way back in 2005 to no longer publish "Virtual" geocaches. "Why" is a moot point at this late date. B. What and where do I find and use Waymarking? There is no such thing as a moot point. We have become all to complacent to just accept things without reason. Thanks TreasureHunterDan for your suggestion. You misunderstood what I meant. Groundspeak made a decision back in 2005 to no longer publish "Virtual" caches, for whatever reason they had. I meant that it's a moot point, because all the complaining hasn't changed their mind since then. They later came up with "Waymarking", which they now suggest should take the place of "virtuals". If you like, you can add your voice to the thread calling for the return of Virtual caches: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=312487 B.

  3. Older ones are allowed, and are Grandfathered. New ones are not allowed. (On this site) What was the reasoning for stopping them?
  4. Are virtual caches still allowed? I see holder ones that are still active but can I post a new one?
  5. I strongly suggest making a bookmark for the Help Center: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php Hiding a Geocache section: http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.book&id=19 Help Center → Hiding a Geocache → Review Process: Hiding a Geocache 1.14. Ratings for Difficulty and Terrain (D/T) http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=82 If I thought it would work i would. I did several searches on Difficulty and found nothing
  6. Where do i find the description of the difficulty rate? Search renders nothing
  7. On their GC Profile Page, there is a spot called e-mail. If they have made their e-mail public, it will be there, if not, there is usually a link that will allow you to send them a message via the GC website. The only time this isn't true is if the user has not validated their e-mail address, in that case, you cannot contact them directly. With only their Geo name to work with there is no way to get to their profile.
  8. Is there a way to find a members e mail address? Most forums have a list of members.

    PAF

OK Thanks. This is assuming you have a contact list of fellow cachers
  10. Your link is bad. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=5188388 Deleting of images on a trackable page isn't something I've done. I would assume that at some point there is an option to delete the image. This is represented with a red trash can icon. I have tried the link and it works from my end.It is the page for that TB and shows a statement to the lower left "Gallery Images related to Geo Road Trip". It is that statement that I question and want to at least remove the original photo. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=5188388 The original posting of your link did not work for me, so I posted the link again. I know it's the page for your travel bug. I haven't deleted images on a travel bug page, so I can't advise you on how to proceed. I would try opening the image and see if you can delete it from there. Look for a trash can icon or perhaps there's text there that says something like "edit this image" or "delete this image". OK There is an edit function with each picture and I deleted the one in question.

  12. When I go to upload an image to one of my trackables, I don't see a "preview" page, so I don't know how you're getting that message. You can add an image stored on your computer. Note: File upload supports the following formats: jpg, gif, bmp and png. Go to the trackable's page. Click on "upload an image". Click on the "browse" button, then navigate to wherever you have the image stored. Fill in the rest of the stuff as you like, then click on "upload" at the bottom. Help Center → Trackables → Owning Trackables 4.2. Upload an Image http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=160 Got the image on but now another question. The page has a title "Gallery Images related to Geo Road Trip" and repeats the image I posted to the page. It also has the original photo I was working with and had cropped down to size. I have no idea how that image got there, don't want it there, and would ask if I can remove it. This is the page http://www.geocachin...aspx?id=5188388

  14. I wanted to drop an image on my travel bug page. There does not seam to be a way to just drop one from my computer. It asks for a URL. the picture is on my computer. In the preview box there is some language that I can even recognize.

    PAF

I keep seeing references to a PAF. I assume that is a contact with the CO. Ho does that work? Is that while in the field or a second trip to a cache?
  16. I have seen a feature mentioned that say you can apply filters to the Geo Map. How do I find this feature and use it?
  17. After some thought I got it. No new cache location can encroach on another caches circle. Circles of existing caches can show as an overlap because each has a 528 ft. radius.
  18. The cache I was placing the dot was right on the very edge of the circle, measured 1/10 on Google Earth. That being the case how can some circles overlap by a third or more?
  19. I went to register a new cache. It seams the system has changed. When I put in the coordinates a map popped up showing the surrounding caches with a circle showing the 528 ft. radius of each cache. The interesting thing was the fact that 80% of the caches in the area I was working all overlapped another cache. What has changed? If you want to see what I saw try and set a cache at N40 20 20 24.1 W74 39 51.31. Every cache on the Millstone river overlaps at least 2 other caches. So haw do I insure a cache will be approved? Use this map or actual measurement from other caches?
  20. Yes I loaded 2 caches that were outside my normal area from the map. While I did not have a newly published cache to test with I did try to load an older cache from e mail notification and it did find the Garmin OK and said the cache was already on the Garmin. Those tests tell me it is fixed. Thanks
  21. Wait, what? Are you saying you're receiving GPX files in your notification emails? If so, that's a new feature we haven't been told about. I don't think this is new as I have, as long as I have been getting e mail notification had this option. I get an e mail notification for each new cache as it is published. That e mail has 4 links in it. The second link takes me directly to the cache page. On that page there is a link "Send to my GPS". If I select it I can load the info to my GPS. If I go to the map and select a cache that page will also give me the option to "Send to My GPS", same function but that does not work. At this point the problem is only happening when I attempt to load information from the map A unique way of solving the problem. Now the "MAP has no caches listed on it at all. Can't have a problem that way.

  23. OK Geocaching has changed there site that is now not compatible with Garmin. Who is obligated to fix it? Garmin has no vested interest in this. The only thing that could be worst would be if Verizon was in the equation.

  25. Well I though I was going to post some progress. Turns out I can upload a cache information to my Garmin from the e mail notice of the publication. I then went to the map to see if I could upload from it. I first got the message that the plug in failed. Broke for lunch and tried again. The map no longer has any caches appearing on it at ALL. Hopefully this is just an indication that someone is working on the problem and had to halt the map fill in information while they are working.
