  1. Thx. That helps a lot. Changed the settings in the preferences and it works.
  2. Hi Folks, I'm new to geocaching. Have a Pocket PC with a gps on it and decided to start getting into geocaching. Using GPXSonar, GPSTuner, Pocket Streets, Destinator PN, google maps, etc. My question is... When I search for a list of caches near my area on this website, I get tons back as the result with the long/lat posted at the top. When I click on the google map link on the same page that supposed to show the cache, it shows a completely different set of long/lat numbers? What am I doing wrong? I want to manually enter a couple but I'm ending up in the middle of the lake, etc when using the first set of numbers. Please help. Thx
  3. I've decided take the advise from others on this site and use the gps software that came with my ppc for the general street locations, etc and for geocaching I will use either BeeLine or GPSTuner (GPSTuner lets you import map images and calibrate the map). Both let you import from geocaching.com.
  4. A couple of airlines now have the built in nagivation screens on the back of the headrests to see where you are (WestJet does I know that for sure) which is cool. Especially for the long trips. I know it's not much of a thrill looking at a blue screen full of water but when you zoom out and take a look at the proximity to land or where you are when you start flying over the land it's pretty cool.
  5. Thx for the input. That's what I was thinking also. I definitely do not like the way Microsoft Street and Trips 2006 looks on the pocket PC and the options. Terrible, very basic. Going to look at some of the other mentioned topo software Question..does Topo software typically support only certain areas or do they usually contain world wide maps?
  6. I just saw a demo from a friend of Microsoft street and trips 2006 for pocket pc. This program is terrible! Glad I saw it before I bought it
  7. Anyone really... pocket pc users, garmin, magellan users, etc.
  8. Hi What maps can I use when using my pocket pc in flight when travelling over water? Is Pocket Earth good enough or is there another program that works with this?
  9. Hi Folks, Do geocachers typically use maps that contain street names or just topographical maps without street names?
  10. Hi Ya gpsxsonar and MFST work fine together. I guess it personal preference. Do topo maps usually work world wide or usually just for a certain country/area? Geocaching appears to be a lot harder without the street names
  11. Hi Thx! I noticed that BeeLine is also good for Pocket PC 2003. I send the support an email to see if it's good for Canada also. Since I'm new to geocaching, can you tell me if maps for geocaching DO NOT include street names correct? Do most people geocache using topo maps only or street names also? I was looking at memory map and will take another look at it.
  12. Hi Ya I took a look at that before I posted. GPXSonar doesn't include a topographical map correct? It's just a log of all the waypoints...same information I can get by logging into Geocaching site correct? Doesn't look like it will export with the current software I use.
  13. Hi Folks, Any recommendations for a pocket pc gps geocaching software? I am currently using map software not indended for geocaching so not having the ability to enter waypoints and importing them is not easy. The only thing I do now is look at the map in mapquest that is posted for the cache then go to the area until my lat and long are close but this really doesn't work well. Any suggestions would be great.
  14. Hi Folks, I think this product is only available in Canada right now but it's called the MacVision. http://macvision.com/frontend/Proddisp.asp?co=10000307 http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=37648 Very big screen, uses an internal 30gig drive. This isn't a geocaching one, it's an auto one but just want some thoughts. Read some reviews on it already and it doesn't have an automatic reroute option that sux and apparently some reviewers mentioned problems with the harddrive. Haven't read much on how good the maps are but uses the NavTeq system. Price: $399 CDN.
  15. Hi I find the GUI a lot nicer on the PDA's. Graphics are nicer also and you have the option of using the PDA if you want.
  16. True. Although I'll have to buy a case for it I guess. Still want to know which unit is superior to the other. Would be nice if they were a little cheaper...agreed.
  17. Hi Folks, The more I look at these 2, the more I want to purchase one of them. It's hard to wait for the 'perfect' unit and I've always liked the PDA GPS units. Just not sure which one is better. The M3 or M5? I know the M3 has less of a processor but I hear it's better for battery life also and is much cheaper....not sure...please help. Thx.
  18. Is the new iWay 200C going to have a removable Lith Ion Battery? Will it also have maps for Canada?
  19. Hi The Lowrance iWay 100m appears to be black and white screen. I like the way actual unit looks. Didn't read up on it further since I didn't want black and white. Some features I like on a gps unit: - Lith Ion external swappable battery. - Color screen - Expandable SD card slot - 3D view (dont' know why these maps don't include 3D view on the geocaching units. Although you'd be using it mostly for geocaching, I'm sure there will be times where you may utilize the 3D view.
  20. Hi Folks, This site has been extremely helpful in trying to help me decide which GPS unit to look at and decide on purchasing. I was going back and forth trying to decide which unit to purchase and I'm happy to say that the end result is that I'm not purchasing one right now after all the research, etc. I realize that each unit has it's flaws however, I'm just not 100% convinced that I'll be happy with any unit out there. I'm extremely impressed with the graphics on the PDA style units like the Navman PIN and the ique's over the explorist models. But for geocaching we all know the pda style ones are not good. I was looking for one that I can geocache with and one that I can use in the car also. I don't see why they can't combine the 2 and have a unit where you can input waypoints into where it's portable and can also be used as an auto gps also. The roadmates look nice but again, from the feedback I read on those units, I stopped looking into those. I know this might sound stupid but I have to like the way unit phsyically looks in addition to the way it operates. I just simply do not like the way the screen and UI looks on the Garmin StreetPilot's. Additionally, all the maps cost so much that it's putting it almost over $1000 for everything. I can stick with mapquest for now I think I'll wait for the prices to drop, graphics to improve and maps to improve before I purchase one. Just my 2cents.. I'll keep looking for one that I like but for now..I don't think there is anything out there.
  21. Yes the more I think about it, the more it appears that spending money of purchasing all the units would set me back for a long time just to break even. I always thought the biggest obstable was the user training..I just wanted to get a second opinion. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  22. THx Dot Com The more I read reviews and get feedback, the more I'm less optimistic in purchasing an explorist. Athought the PDS version like the Garmin ique are less used for geocaching, the interfaces are much nicer and the maps look nicer. For example the new M3 comes with all the maps you need. Do not have to spend extra money on more maps. I figure the price of the explorist 500 or 600 is nice but then you factor in all the maps and possibly another SD card and it spikes!
  23. Hi, I'm trying to get some opinions about renting out GPS units. Is there a market for them? I know the price of the units are always dropping and will soon enough be affordable in the same way that cell phones are today where everyone will own one. I know car rental places like Hertz offer them as an add on and there are some places where you can rent them already so I'm not sure if this is viable. Perhaps some units for auto and I guess some for geocaching. Any thoughts?
  24. Also... I guess the DR maps have less detail than the topo maps since they are smaller.
