  1. Considering the fact that they highlighted the background and attributed the quote to him, it's pretty clear they were being cute. It is a pretty good quote.
  2. You don't know his reason for placing the cache. Maybe he just wanted to meet other cachers. Probably a good thing you decided not to find it since you seem to have taken offense to it. If it is on the land owner's property, I'm pretty sure he has permission to hide it there. The interesting thing about these forums is that you often don't get the response you were seeking. Not everybody takes such offense to this kind of placement. Some people understand that we are all different and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. It doesn't mean the others shouldn't have their say too. You sure do seem indignant. Probably a good thing this is your last post on the topic.
  3. That's probably the biggest reason. People want lots of caches to find so they hide lots in order to get others to hides lots too. I know it's difficult for some around here to understand, but there are a lot of people who share your feeling on logs. Some people just don't care that much about them. Me? I prefer the harder to reach caches. But this sport is big enough for us all.
  4. I wonder if an article would have been written and we'd be discussing this if it were a couple of creepy old guys eating the donuts?
  5. Where did you see somebody saying that blank and terse logs render other logs "null and void"? Someone made an anecdotal post earlier about bad teeth and lack of deodorant and how they affect other people. I may have misinterpreted what the poster was trying to say. But it seemed like he was saying that these types of logs ruin the cache and other cache logs. But maybe that poster can elaborate and clarify what he was saying and clear up any misunderstanding. But good to know that you don't believe that blank or terse logs have any affect on the other logs. I will not argue with somebody that has a proven track record of twisting what I say to suit their own needs. No play with somebody else, please. Thank you. I'm not twisting anything. I did invite you to clarify if I am misreading what you wrote. It seems clear to me what you meant, but I am open to the fact that I could be wrong. If I am wrong, please correct me. I have played this game with you before. Go play with someone else. I am not responsible for your reading comprehension. I comprehend quite well and will take that as confirmation that you meant it the way I read it. Thanks for the clarification.
  6. So how about we return to the topic.

  8. Those aren't "Found" logs, they are notes. And you had to dig through an awful lot of logs to find those very few examples, not like the last year or two where half the logs don't really say anything. Those are only about 3 of the logs and you didn't specify found logs. You said 100% of the logs at least said something.
  9. What lesson is that? That if you leave a thread open long enough that either people will pick at the OP enough until someone gets banned or they'll start feeling sorry enough for him that you don't really need to lock it any longer? He's taken his licks already. Locking the thread does not remove the posts, so no worries about losing any history. It just stops the pile on, which I thought was the purpose of having mods. If they're not going to do their job, then why in the heck do they exist?
  10. They buried it in the article. After saying "This park had no such sign," the article goes on to say: Apparently, the sign was not clear enough. I don't know. They provided a link to a similar sign (link), except it had no bullets. The linked sign is pretty clear. It's the very first rule. I've seen similar signs and they are pretty clear that you are not supposed to be there unless you have a kid with you.
  11. Try the report button and see if you can get another mod to close it. Worth a shot.

  13. (one of those obvious cut-n-paste logs you said are devoid of content) (another couple of the types of logs you described as devoid of content) (gotta say these tb drop logs are devoid of content) (hmmmmmm, does it count when they spell it out?) Looks to me it depends on how you define "at least something to say about the cache". "found it" say as much and as little as a blank log. It just uses more characters to do so.
  14. Cool spot, regular sized cache, with 5 favorites, and 28 pictures in the gallery. Sounds like the "hide a good cache, you'll get good logs" theory doesn't work here. Depends on how you define good logs. Of the last 15 logs, I only see one completely devoid of content. I see a couple of other terse logs. The ones described as obvious cut-n-paste are not so obvious. They show that the loggers found the cache with 2 of their friends. And I can't see how the blank and terse logs render these logs null and void:
  15. Now I'm curious what other account you post under. I understand being hands off mod-wise if you are part of the conversationm but even if you are participating under a different name as a "regular" poster, why can't you close the thread once the OP specifically requests it? Just curious.
  16. or My guess is those that are concerned about that will add a bit more to their logs. But not everyone is concerned about that or needs a log to remember. They may not realize they will be concerned about it in the future. When I found cache #1, I had no idea I would ever find cache #2. What were the contents of that first log? I bet you wrote more than ftf so you were covered anyway. Some people care about this stuff and some people care about going out and enjoying the afternoon finding caches. You know how to find that. Some people care about both of those things. Why do you insist on supporting mediocrity? You really do not sound like a mediocre sort of person. Some people don't care about keeping a journal of their caching career. What is mediocre about that? I don't keep a journal of my life and I can guarantee you that my life is not mediocre. I'm also confident that I will remember the parts of it that I care about without need to write it all down. Some people don't care about brushing their teeth or using deodorant. If they live in a log cabin in the mountains, all by themselves, I don't care. But if they come into range of my nose, I sure do. Other people's bad habits DO affect the rest of us. That is where concepts like manners and etiquette came from. While I agree that if someone farts in a room full of people wearing expensive cologne/perfume that it will likely render those pleasant smells null and void, I fail to see how a blank or TFTC log comes close. Now if we were talking about foul mouthed logs on the page I would be in complete agreement with you. Those can ruin the reading of the other logs. But I don't see how a few short or blank logs can render all the other nice logs void.
  17. How about after this post nobody else posts and let it die a nice peaceful death? Unfortunately that is not the way it works. Well, it is how it works, but only once nobody feels a need to post. Not generally at the request of another poster. BUT, you might try using the report button. Perhaps another moderator may see it and put you out of your misery.
  18. Yes. It's pretty apparent at this point that it is intentionally being left open.
  19. How? They could just as easily follow the forums. No, they couldn't. That is why we now have UserVoice. Here is an example of a nice Feedback request: "Hi, I attended one of the World Wide Flash Mob events in June 2011. I understand that all who logged "attended" will receive a special souvenir. I haven't seen the souvenir appear. Is this a bug? If not, when can we expect the souvenir to be awarded?" Now, that question would likely receive a response from one of the customer service Lackeys or maybe even the Lackey in charge of the Souvenir program. In contrast, to distill that same question out of this train wreck, one must first wade past all the other trains, find this train, figure out that "SERISOULY AGIGTATED" was a thread relating to souvenirs, and then skip past all the side conversations about trackable logging etiquette, teens on the internet, spelling/grammar critiques, and trolling. I think Groundspeak grew weary of trying to do that. I agree with the problem with the title. However, the OP's concern was stated in the first post, though not nearly as eloquently as you posed it.
  20. I don't think you have to worry about locking. I am confident we'll get another page out of this. Coldgears said he pm'd keystone directly and as you can see, keystone has come and gone and we're still here. I'm kind of wanting my ibtl souvenir now.

  22. Seriously? Of course! That's the only reason I'm posting here in the first place. Do you think I really enjoy this? Now we just need to argue for a page or so and you can tell us that you lied about that because you were angry. I AM NOT ANGRY!!! Please tell me you were at least lying!
