  1. And ... while you are at it please add an option to make the background image stretch to fit the whole screen.
  2. Hi! I recently added a new Geocache listing (https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GCAF60H) and thought to myself: It would be really great to have the possibility to add a background image to my listing, which does not scroll with the listing. Please, dear developers, add the possibility to add fixed position background images. That would look really cool with none tiling background images. Thanks!
  3. It would be a really cool feature if you could create pocket queries based on a string contained in their name and/or in the owner's name.
  4. When the Favorites system was first introduced, the assumption (probably) was, that people would go for any cache they could find in their neighbourhood. When doing so, you end up with about 10% outstanding caches and 1 FP per found cache is enough to award the top 10%. When I started my geocaching career it was like that. I was excited and did not select my targets. Any cache would do. And my FP were spent for those 10%. But after a while I started to get bored by meaningless hidden boxes. I began to be more choosy. By searching for caches from well-known owners with a reputation for hiding quality caches the amount of FP-worthy caches rose from 10% to about 25%. To only award the best of the best just does not seem fair to those committed owners. And it would not send the right signal to the community who relies on the FP-count to indicate the extra-ordinary caches. First I thought a FP is only to award the cache and its owner. But now I think it is also a flag to signal my fellow geocachers: Hey, here is a cache worth looking for. And to set this flag I need more FP. If introducing a completely new way of earning FP is not feasible, I suggest to alter the current 10 finds = 1 FP to 5 finds = 1 FP. But I still would like to see some sort of award for writing good log-entries. :-)
  5. Let me clarify, what my motivation was to propose this new way of getting Favorite Points (FP). I am rather picky with my choice of geocaches I go looking for. Before I go and search for a cache in the wild, I like to research a little bit and find out, if my targeted cache is worth the effort. I do so by reading logbooks and taking a look at cache-owners profiles. The number of received FPs in relation to the number of premium members who logged this cache, gives me a good starting point. If this value is high, it means, that a lot of people think, this cache is a really good one. Well, lately I have been lucky and found a good number of really good caches. I value good puzzles and craftsmanship (= creative geocaches). But now I ran into a dilemma. My store of FPs doesn't match the caches I would like to award them to. And that's a real pity for me, because those owners have gone to great length to privide the community with excellent caches. Right now, my only way to get more FPs, is to go for rather uninteresting caches. Like today, when I found 8 caches, where none was worth talking about. But at least I have now one FP to give away. So, my proposal is to introduce a new way of getting FPs, not for my own caches, but to give away and award to other caches which provide me and the community with a great geocaching experience.
  6. Yes, some CO will abuse the log-favs to gain more cache-favs for themselves. But abuse there always will be. If I find a cache with a lot of favs and in the logbook it only says TFTC, TFTC, TFTC,... then I know something is wrong, because if a cache is creative and presents the cachers with a good experience, then the log-entries reflect that. I think, if we make the log-favs visible in the log-entries, we will quickly see, whether a CO really awards the favs to good log-entries or not. One quick reply to Powertrails: To me THEY SUCK! They are only for those who value points more than the geocaches themselves. I have no intention to go out and look for 100 boring micros at the roadside just to get 10 favs.
  7. I like the idea, that CO could "earn" favs from every 10 logs they receive. But there is a big BUT! What, if a CO decides to hide a really good cache in the middle of nowhere and only a few people want to go there and search for the cache? Then he would get good log-entries, and probably favs, but because of fewer logs he will not earn enough favs from the log-entries to reward the loggers. In my opinion CO should be able to award as many log-entries as the like.
  8. Hello! Today I would like to talk about Favorite points: Fav-Points are a great tool to show my appreciation to owners of outstanding geocaches. In the beginning of my geocaching-career I found a lot of not so interesting geocaches in the D1/D2-range. So I saved my Fav-Points for the good ones to come. Lately I am more picky with my choice of geocaches, and I favour the more interesting geocaches, which promise me a great experience which I usually have. So now I find a lot of high quality caches. And here is the problem: I frequently run out of Fav-Points and can not reward owners with them when they actually deserve it. I would like to propose a new (additional) way of earning Fav-Points: 1) 10 geocaches found = 1 Fav-Point (so far nothing new) 2) The Owner may reward positive log-entries with 1 Fav-Point. Owners shall be free to decide what they find is a good and positive log-entry. Owners are not forced to do so. That means: Everyone can earn Fav-Points in the ususal way, but you can also earn extra Fav-Points by giving good feedback to the owners. This way, you get 1 Fav-Point back to spend on another great cache. That would encourage people to write more than just "TFTC", and if you find more than one great geocache on your weekend-tour, you may reward all of them with well deserved Fav-Points. So, what do you think of this idea? Christian
