  1. Ensure that in the top right of the ' world' that the accuracy is showing about 15ftvbefore clicking ok. Also, before you get to this stage ensure that ' search geocaching.com' is ticked in the 'search options'
  2. You have put the cache close to moving equipment. I guess it could damage it in some way, or perhaps it could stop the machinery from operating as it was intended? I _know_ it wouldn't do this but the ever cautious reviewers, well, you know what they are like.
  3. Im unaware of what guideline this would fall under but it sounds like a fair decision from the Mods on this one in my opinion.
  4. Recently I bought three 1300l Cree led torches from fleabay for £20 each. Now I'm not suggesting they are 1300l but at that price, with charger, two batteries, bike holder nd rear bike light, it's a no brainier really. That and it's built like a tank!
  5. Steps, Click nearest caches. Change search options Change to 'Near GPS location' Click ok. Off it goes to find your GPS location. Wait until it shows you the planet picture and the accuracy goes to about 13ft. Click ok Depending on what you put in th search options it will then go and search geocaching.com, screen will turn blue and it will bring up some caches. Click the one you want, it will then download it. Click the blackberry button and scroll down to 'compass' Get moving!
  6. It doesn't sound as though you have connected to the sats. Click 'find nearest caches' and set it to GPS. Let it connect and actually show you the distance it has you down to before you click it to get it searching geocaching.com, then click and download one and try and find it. Sometimes I have to reboot my 9780 as it seems to not want to pick up any gps signal. Doesn't happen so much with the latest resold cachesense mind.
  7. Good, you weren't offended by my comment that Dr Solly had missed his chance to have a gleaming new web site (- as in "All I can gleam from it is ..."). Bah, not so good in the retelling. Sporting of you to leave your typo in, though. Ah the 'typo'. The area most internet discussions drop to when things are getting tough.
  8. Dont worry I saw it. I was tickled by the fact that you quoted completely the wrong part
  9. OK, so the answer to "What on earth does my employment have to do with my hobby of designing and creating useful websites?" is "I spend 12hrs a day examining websites and have done for 12 years now, and so feel a little qualified to understand what works and what doesn't". Thanks for your help in answering your question. Well, in that case, you'll have examined the Geolympix web site and noticed the bit at the bottom that says "Copyright © 2010-2011 - The Geolympix Team - All Rights Reserved" and you'll be careful not to violate the copyright when you "lift all the information on the Geolmpix website and transfer it to a site of my own" because both your job and your hobby will have brought you into contact with the facts of copyright. That is correct. I would have happily created a website for the project, using my skills, for free, to assist in making the whole thing look a lot more professional, easier on the eye and indeed easier to navigate and understand. I say 'would', because your rather bad attitude has left me wanting to do something else instead. Possibly banging my head against the wall.
  10. Im guessing that its your cache? If so, the final decision comes down to you. You could delete the on-line logs (which are the only ones that really matter) and insist on the cacher signing the paper log, but is it really worth it? If people want to fudge their stats, then imo, they can do exactly that.
  11. It was to demonstrate that, being in a technical field, I spend 12hrs a day examining websites and have done for 12 years now, and so feel a little qualified to understand what works and what doesn't. You like it, thats fine. Enjoy.
  12. Me too. Apart from all the talk about caches, torches, boots, GPSes, food, beer, muggles, adventures, puzzles, maths and hides - there's very little to talk about. Thank you for pointing out exactly why I wont be going.
  13. Since you work for an ISP, you'll have noticed the bit at the bottom that says "Copyright © 2010-2011 - The Geolympix Team - All Rights Reserved" and you'll be careful not to violate the copyright? What on earth does my employment have to do with my hobby of designing and creating useful websites?
  14. Were there too many apostrophes? Ah, brilliant. I did wonder when we might find your level.
  15. No. The only time I ever did anything similar to a cache I got a Quite Angry e-mail from the cache owner asking me not to do it again. I'm not going there again. And what to do with the cache you remove? If its sooo important to people, do you have to post it to the CO? or fax it perhaps?
  16. I can confirm that is correct. In exactly the same way that you are not aware of the T+Cs of your bank account, car insurance or similar. Caching and setting caches requires common sense. It was a simple question regarding the need for a pointless paper cache they ends up getting wet, torn and put in the bin. It may be in the rules but tbh, I have never read them, nor will I read them. Perhaps I should have ;o)
  17. I would rather stick pins in my eye. But you already did a challenge! Indeed I did, and set one. I wish I could now delete that little logo and the associated '1' next to my stats, but alas, I cannot seem to do so.
  18. No, I can assure you I am not. I cache for myself. I had no idea what a Mega was (and do not have any desire to attend one) - I also did not study the rules enough to realise that a paper log is required in a cache. I will take myself away and chastise myself.
  19. Yes. There's a monstrous lot of information on it but I wouldn't call it a "monstrosity". I think it explains what anyone needs to know... Perhaps firestars could be more specific about what he doesn't understand, or what he'd like to know that isn't on there? MrsB It doesnt though, thats the problem. Im no fool and neither are my colleagues but in all honesty, I couldn't make head nor tail of it. The information is all over the place, its not written very well and the design of the site does it no favours. It will lose visitors in the current state, at the front page.
  20. A quick straw poll amongst the other engineers here at the ISP I work for, right now (cachers and non-cachers) comfirm that the site is abysmal and likely to bring on a migraine. I will lift it all into a site soon enough and all will become clear.
  21. Thanks again. Im guess a GeoCaching event is a local meet, to talk about Geocaching (quite what they find to talk about amazes me!) Now, I understand a Mega! Thanks nb - Im going to lift all the information on the Geolmpix website and transfer it to a site of my own, so that others can understand what the fuss is!
  22. Thanks for the link. It doesnt really _tell_ me whats going on though does it? All I see if a poorly designed logo, an emaciated women and people getting in a fluster. What is a Mega, for example? Is it just a group of people in waterproofs and walking boots sitting around chatting?
  23. In plain and simple english, can someone please tell me what this is about? For those that have not seen it the website is here - geolympix.com - but let me warn you, its a monstrosity! All I can gleam from it is some caches going up in Oxford some time in the future, interestingly by a cacher whos other 'megatrails' are slowly being archived due to lack of maintenance. You couldnt make it up.
