  1. The user <redacted> has just spammed a bunch of my archived geocaches with a link to get "free" Premium for geocaching app. Obviously this is a scam/spam. I dont know if this user was "hacked" and is not in control of his account. I checked the found geocaches of the account and its a bunch of other geocaches as well. (Not all are archived) My question is who do I email/contact at GS to get this behavior stopped?
  2. a necro of all necros! 2006 was a long time ago, why do people do this???
  3. i would think he got the answer he wanted, but other people continue to perpetuate this topic with off-topic conversations like throw downs...
  4. if im not mistaken, any type of interactive stuff on a cache page isn't allowed. so i think you are SOL, but maybe suggesting this on the suggestions for the site would be fun. that way in the future, any event can have the countdown timer in it.
  5. Unless the cache page in the description says something like "the cache is buried" how would the reviewer know that it was buried. This is why these caches are published. But even then the cache owner can change the text after the reviewer approves the cache so this isn't a catch all. what you did was correct, emailing the reviewer to get his attention. they are busy however so it might take some time before they get around to it. the best way to get the reviewers attention would be the needs archive log as this is directly sent to the reviewer. again even with this it might take some time before they get to it, but they generally email the cache owner first. give him time to try and fix it before they take other actions. and again, the cache owner can lie about that too. so all you can really do is report it the way you did and then promptly ignore the cache. (because you have already found the cache so you don't need to ever find it again)
  6. looks like ascii to me... but as others have said, ask the CO for help.
  7. takes too long when there are more caches to find... same concept when people pass during rush hour. those 3 seconds matter! duh!
  8. I do know that if you keep turning on and off the GPS (to save battery) it takes a long time before it finally "finds" you in the correct spot. some models need data connection to give a rough estimate of location before their GPS will sync up. I don't think this is the iphones case, but fyi anyway
  9. if im not mistaken, don't challenge caches have to have the name "challenge" in them? thats an easy way to sort your list once you get it down to just ?s.
  10. the troll under the bridge is nice and close and very touristy: here!. Ah I see they made this one a HQ geotour...
  11. I don't think the Garmin Etrex Summit HC has a card slot. your problem will then be mounting your GPS onto your phone, if the phone can recognize it as a storage device it should work just fine assuming you can obtain a micro to mini USB option. You can buy a regular USB to mini USB dongle easy enough, i dont think they sell a cord that has mini on one end and micro on the other.
  12. Just take out the SD card on your GPS and put it into your phone/tablet. download the file into the SD card, then put it back into your GPS.
  13. why is everyone still arguing about this. if the reviewer wants to do the ftf game all he/she would have to do is go find the cache the day before he/she publishes it and post date his log (or not) and no one else would have a chance. that being said, who cares. the ftf game is an extra game on top of geocaching that HAS NO RULES.
  14. sounds like it should be a sweet multi, but my experience has been that any cache that requires you to gather tools that those tools will go missing. Might I suggest that at first you make it premium at first so that someone completely new to geocaching who doesnt know the rules to accidentally mess the whole thing up
  15. clause. I would not log my own cache simply because I owned it. Just me maybe. I have no doubt people would be able to do it...though there is one aspect of it that may be questionable under this: 6.One should not have to 'give up' finding other caches to achieve a challenge cache's requirements. To state that "10% of your find count needs to be Attended Logs" would require the geocacher to stop finding other types of caches and could affect their overall enjoyment of the game. Mine wouldn't require "giving up" on finding other caches, but may require delaying a find in order to fulfill the requirement. Is that the same thing to a reviewer? There's sort of a fine line since one could argue that some of the existing challenges would lead folks to put off finding certain caches in order to fulfill the challenge requirements. EDIT: I've actually just found a very similar challenge cache listing located over in Denmark. It's much tougher than mine, so I'm pretty sure mine could get published as-is. previously published caches that have the same theme does not mean you will get an automatic acceptance for yours
  16. alcohol is legal, but not legal in caches, why would this be any different
  17. go for the streak, esp. if you think you will never get up to that many ever again. You'll feel good when you hit that 365.
  18. some people play just for the numbers so when they see a wet logbook, they just put it back, end of story. others have extra log books on hand and are happy to replace wet log books, it really depends on what type of cacher comes to find the cache. Also I geocache all the time just on a whim, with no planning, take out the phone and see if there is one near, usually in that case all I have is a pen, so I couldn't have done anything to help the situation. Plus some cache owners don't like it when you take out the log books, whether it be full, wet, or whatever, they like to keep it in the cache so others can see the past stories signatures.
  19. technically, this cache GCJ5C4 is the most eastern cache in North America.
  20. you cannot discuss current puzzle caches on the forums, period. if you are talking about asking if people would solve a specific type of puzzle that you plan on hiding yourself, help involving how difficult your puzzle should be, etc. , this would be one of the places to do so.
  21. if you don't find urban hides, there won't be people around to hide from
  22. its working fine for me, i just got an email today, maybe try calling customer service? see if they can find anything wrong. I do know that if for some reason if the cell towers can't "find" your phone right when the message is sent it goes into a queue to try later, and those queues can take up to a whole day before cycling back around to it again. besides that, there isn't much more you can do. what kind of phone do you have? can you get regular email on your phone?
  23. how is finding it with you family or friends not considered a "mob." Also, if i find it with 1 friend and you find it with your family of 7 according to your rank i get "less of a find."
