  1. The 60c or 60cs is very durable...however. I am not at all satisfied with the connector for the USB cable. It is flimsy at best and will eventually pull out of the back of the unit. Other than that it is the best out there. I think the 60CS is an excellent GPS, but I agree that the USB connector is an apparent weakness. I purchased a new 60CS in July and I began having troubles with my PC recognizing the connection with the GPS about a month ago. Prior to recognizing the problem, I downloaded new drivers, made a variety of adjustments, but ultimately solved the problem due to a heads up from a forum responder who indicated I might have a loose USB connection in the GPS. After recognizing this, I called Garmin and they sent me an immediate RMA. They repaired my GPS by soldering the USB connection, so now all is well. I am not sure if this would be a similar problem with the 76. Good Luck! Apostle Island
  2. Idaho, thanks for your reply! I too realized that the PC cord must be the culprit. I checked the status of the connector into the GPS and it still looked sound. I blew air to clean all connections and pushed the cord snugly into both computer and GPS. Joyfully I heard the little sound from the computer indicating a connection. I then successfully downloaded a new cache! From reading the forums, I believe the connector into the GPS could be a source for a problem. Thanks for your thoughtful assistance! Apostle Island
  3. I have owned my 60CS for several months and have consistently utilized the USB port to interface the GPS to my computer to download waypoints. In fact, I downloaded several only yesterday. Problem, this a.m. I proceeded to do the same but when I connected the GPS I received a message indicating that the computer was not recognizing hardware. I restarted the computer, checked the USB functionality by downloading a few pictures from flashcard, checked the system interface on the GPS to verify that the Serial Data Line still indicated Garmin and downloaded new drivers. I then restarted computer, plug in the GPS to cable and thee computer is still not recognizing the GPS. I cannot imagine why this would just happen as this has never been a problem. I reviewed the C drive and all my Garmin files are there! Does anyone out there have any ideas? I haven't changed anything on my computer and I am at a complete loss as to what might be going on! Thanks in advance for anything that might lend some sense to this issue. Apostle Island
  4. Thanks for the quick response! I am sure Garmin chose tan for the map background for overall visibility for reading the maps. Once again, I must say, nothing holds a candle to the forums for instant service with intuitive results. Thank you! Apostle Island
  5. Whenever the Map 60CS is shown in an advertisement, the background color for the map page is bright green! My 60CS map page background is tan! Is it possible to change this? I have read the threads and fiddled with the settings but I have not located an option to change this! I figure if someone on the forums has not figured this out, it can't be done! Thanks in advance Apostle Island
  6. Thanks Bigdog999 for your quick response! I wanted to do it right. Apostle Island
  7. I am wondering if it is appropriate proticol to return to a previous cache to collect a TB in an effort to move it along on its journey? I see there are some TB's in my area that should be moved along, and knowing their goal I think I could assist. However, I have been to the caches already. I understand I would not take double credit for logging the cache, but can I log a note and pick up the TB and get credit on my inventory? Thanks! Apostle Island
  8. Use gpx and not loc files from geocaching.com (requires premium membership) and you will get them with the correct cache icon. I download the gpx file directly through EasyGPS to my 60CS without modification and it works like a charm. I have downloaded coordinates using loc files, but now that I am a premium member I wanted to use gpx files. Because I am just a beginner I have been downloading individual cache sites from different areas and they have downloaded without any prob as a loc file. However I just attempted the same procedure clicking on the gpx icon but when I attempted final transfer from the EasyGPS screen the cache did not show up on my GPsr. Should I be doing anything different to transition from the one format to the other?
  9. Thanks everyone for your suggestions! It is great to have such instant response and direction when considering possible options. I think I will begin with City Select! Although this question is a bit off the track, do any of you with a 60CS use an external antenna to enhance reception?
  10. I am considering the practicality of investing in Garmins U.S. Topo maps for my Garmin 60CS. It seems that I read in some earlier forum threads that they were outdated! I appreciate the fact they don"t update topo maps too often. Does it pay to invest? Would City Select be of any value outside of just major roads?
  11. Thanks everyone for your help. It appears if I purchased the software now, I would have the benefit of using V6 until the new release of V7. How does the price of $116.00 sound for the software from Amazon. Then with credit card application it will be another $30 off, $86.00!!
  12. Perhaps someone could help me clarify my thinking regarding the new City Select V7 software which I would like to purchase for my Garmin 60 CS. I just received my new 60CS and I would like to add City Select software. It appears Amazon has a good price on V6 CD, and I understand from reading the threads that Garmin will send you a free update to V7 CD when it is released on 8-15. Does it make any sense to make that move at this time or should I just wait for release date of the new software? Thanks for your help!
  13. I just purchased a new 60CS. Should I wait on ordering City Select so I can get the V7 update?
  14. For the purposes of geocaching does the choice of longitude/latitude versus UTM coordinates make a diference for navigation accuracy?
