  1. If I were at home now instead of work, I would try this. Right now satellites 15, 29, & 03 are all unuseable. Maybe someone could report whether or not they are appearing on their GPS screen.
  2. When a satellite sends an "unhealthy" satellite code that says "do not use", what effect does this have on a GPSr? Will that particular satellite still appear on the GPS screen as if all is normal except it's not being used in the solution? OR will it not appear on the screen at all since it's unhealthy?
  3. All electronic devices can emit RF...GPSr, CD players, laptop computers, etc. It's just up to the individual airlines as to whether they will allow you to use such devices. Some will some won't. However have you ever heard of a aircraft crashing because someone turned on a pager, or a CD player, or a DVD player, or a GPSr? Myth Busters (TV show) had one episode where they TRIED to interfer with the navigation system of an aircraft and couldn't. I think airlines are just being over cautious and in this day and age, maybe that's not such a bad thing.
  4. Easy....when you set a waypoint, just highlight the number field. Then just put in any number you want, as long as it's not already taken. Future waypoints will count up from there. For example, if you put in "300", the next will be "301" or if you put in "001", the next will be "002". And so on and so on.
  5. I have the RAM Mount with a 3" suction disk. I highly recommend it...very high quality and the suction doesn't let go until you want it to. I don't think you would be disappointed if you went with it.
  6. Peter, THAT is the kind of intelligent explaination I was looking for! I knew there had to be a logical reason for what I was seeing. Thanks a bunch for your reply!
  7. That makes sense except for the fact that my aluminum blinds are closed. If your theory was correct then it would be even more mysterious as the signals would be passing through metal. I know my experience is not unique! Come on, surely this must be a common occurence! Hasn't someone out there noticed this and come up with a rational explaination?
  8. I don't know if the signals still come through when my roof is wet. That was really not my point. The bigger issue is why they are coming through WOOD and SHINGLES.
  9. All of the reading I have done on GPS satellite signals state that the signals will penetrate plastic, windows, cloth, and other light materials. Why then can I receive signals in my house? I live in a one story home with a plywood roof with composite shingles (a regular suburban home). The signals that I am receiving are from satellites that are directly overhead or that are just slightly off from being directly overhead. I just turned on my GPSr and got a lock on 4 birds from my living room. What's the deal?
  10. This is a little bit off topic but it looked like a good place to ask this re: Etrex Legend. When I save a Track, then go to that Track to look at it, there is a box near the bottom of the screen that says "Show On Map". You can check or uncheck this box. What does "Show On Map" mean? I check and uncheck it but I can't see any difference. Thanks in advance.
