  1. Yeah just hoping to get an answer. The more learned people that see the question more chance of an answer. I was hoping to to use it as a sort of phone book when we go to Wichita, KS. I noticed that you have to zoom way in on the PC version before you get the best search results. That did not help on the hand held version. If anyone knows of phone listings that could be downloaded into a pda(Palm in my case) that would do the trick for me. I have used the Garmin Mapsource for my gps for years and have struggled a bit to use the Delorme products. Thanks Alan
  2. Does anyone know why I can find Walmart in a search on the PC version and not on the map that I cut to my Palm Tungsten. Alan
  3. You made me go back and check. I was looking at an area between national forest areas. We are going to Gunnison National Forest on Monday. I have the Garmin Topo, the Delorme Topo, and National Geographic Back Roads but still feel I do not have a map that gives the complete picture. N.G. makes you buy a state map in order to get the good detail, something I did not realize when I bought it. Delorme has TopoQuad but I am out of time for having it shipped. I have been trying to find a map to download that I can put on my Palm Tungsten that has good detail. As it stand right now I have the Garmin Topo on my 60c and the Delorme on my Tungsten. Alan
  4. Well after hiding all maps and then turning topo 2008 map on I still get the tan background. Bummer. Alan
  5. When displaying the Topo map on my 60c the background is tan instead of the green displayed on the computer. The tan background makes it hard to determine if I am displaying the Topo or City Select map. Is it possible to transfer the Topo to the 60c with the green background. Thanks Alan
  6. I read an earlier post on this subject but cannot seem to find it again. It was about using Delorme Topo 6.0 on a Palm without having to buy Street Atlas. The consensus was that you would have to buy Street Atlas to do it. Is this is still the case or has there been a work around been made available. All I want to do is view the maps and not use with gps.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I t looks like with National Geographic you have to buy the state level to get good detail. Delorme looks like it may be the map of choice. Alan
  8. We are taking a trip to Colorado in two weeks. I am trying to determine which topo software to buy. Do any of the software topo maps help to differentiate whether or not a trail or road is two or four wheel drive? Thanks Alan
  9. Moun10Bike I have downloaded the files, once again I appreciate the help. I had to increase the memory cache in Google Earth to keep the land allotments form crashing it. Just an FYI for anybody using G.E.
  10. Moun10Bike This is great you have know idea how much I appreciate this! The only change I would like is to have them as two seperate files. I have a book that shows the allotments so I can just match them up. they loaded in Google Earth great. Are you using a high dollar program for this? Alan
  11. There are two that I need. The land and the range allotments. These would allow me to plot the original ranches as well as plot the boundaries of my father inlaws ranch.
  12. Thanks guys. I went to the metafile section and was able to gather some of the data information. UTM zone 13, Horizontal_Datum_Name: North American Datum of 1927, Planar_Distance_Units: meters Still not working right. Evidently there are a number of versions of North American Datum of 1927 WGS1984 sems to be the standard for Google Earth and GPS Tracker. It will load using this datum only in the wrong place. When I use UTM zone 13 nothing shows up. Going to take some time. Alan
  13. Is something else available ie. different file format, other source for the same data on the National Forest ?
  14. My father inlaw runs a ranch in the forest. I have been looking for maps and such to overlay Google Earth. There is a lot of interesting history that happened in that area. I am trying to map it so I can visist the places next time I go down to New Mexico.
  15. I need some help converting GIS e006 files that I have downloaded of the Lincoln National forest. I have gps trackmaker free. Some of the files are large and lock up trackmaker. I wonder if I am reaching the limits of the free version. The files that I have loaded into trackmaker and then coverted into gpx format appear in the ocean instead of New Mexico when loaded into Mapsource. Are there any other shareware or freeware GIS e006 converters? Why does my converted file not appear in the correct position? This is above my head at the moment. This is the link to the Lincoln National Forest GIS page. http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/lincoln/contact/gi...0on%20the%20web Thanks Alan
  16. On my last trip using my 60c autorouting was trying to causing some annoying deviations from the planned route. Namely trying to route you to a parallel highway that you would eventually join after going around a lrage city. I would like to try converting my routes to tracks for some experimentation. Namely avoid autorouting unless you drive off of the track. What is the easiest method for the route to track conversion? Thanks Alan
  17. Here is my observation of a mapsource route with waypoints. It works great. As long as you were approaching a way point it would try to direct you to it. After you passed the way point it would recalculate the route, if the following waypoints are in the best route it uses them. If they are not part of the best route it by passes them. I would have no problem with using mapsource generated routes. Alan
  18. Had a chance to try a got to with the autoroute loaded. I must say it performed great. I deviated course several times and it kept recalculating. I am happy with the results. I will have to try test with a mapsource route loaded. I cannot tell yet from all of the posts whats up with mapsource routes. Alan
  19. After trying a short go to across my small town, the unit was trying to route me on the interstate. The interstate had no bearing on the route. hmmmm I checked my mapsource settings and I had not placed a check in the include autoroute on the map page. I noticed when I uploaded to the unit it did not ask about autoroute, I assumed it recognized the unit and included the autoroute. Tomorrow I will try again with the autoroute included. Alan
  20. I am seeing two routing options. Have the unit create a route. Beginning and end or with multiple waypoints. Use the goto waypoint. For a longer trip set up way points and then navigate using go to waypoint, as you pass a waypoint use go to for the next. Different autorouting results for each. Both having benefits. Alan
  21. I just tried following a route from my house to the local Walmart(7 miles programmmed on the 60c). It calculated a route using the interstate near our house that also runs past the Walmart. The best route. When I left the house I intentionally did not follow the generated route. The unit kept informing me that it was recalculating but neverdisplayed anything other than the calulated route. Suggestions for what 60c settings are needed for the unit to recalculate a new route. Or intead of route do you use go to. Alan
  22. If I understand an uploaded route is missing key components for auto rerouting. Can I use waypoints uploaded from Mapsource for the route programmed on the unit. Alan
  23. I have an 848 mile trip to route on my brand new Garmin 60c using City Select V6. I have been reading that it is better to route on the unit than in Mapsource. What is the reason for this. In either case I would have to use way points to force the route along the roads I wish to use. By the way I upgraded from my Legend with the great info provided by the knowledgeable folks on this forum. Thank You Alan
