  1. Ohh that will explain why I fancy her. []
  2. I've found GeoCache Calculator to be useful on more than once on some tricky puzzle caches.
  3. I'm going to take a stab at Mercury. Because IIRC he stole fire from the Gods (though I may have made that up in my head).
  4. So would I be right in saying that if I were to buy a Garmin Dakota 10 for about £150 I could use the Talky Toaster maps instead of having to pay about the same again for the OS maps. How do the two compare? Would I find that the OS maps are better but the Talky Toaster ones are free? Or is it just that i'm so used to looking at OS maps that the Talky Toaster ones just look wrong but are actually just as good as the OS ones? A quick comparison between my local area OS map (153 Bedford and Huntingdon FWIW) and the openstreetmaps site suggests that they are pretty similar quality.
  5. Meh it doesn't really matter how many characters minimum you do. Some people will just log with that many fullstops.
  6. That is very considerate of you, however, are you aware, that unless you completely delete your log and re-do it, the cache owner does not get an email showing your adjustment. For those of us that have hundreds of caches out there, we cannot possibly remember which cache page was logged by which cacher to then have to go into the cache page to read their proper logs to make sure everything is OK with the cache. Don't phone apps have the option to do field notes or save offline so you can adjust your comments before logging live? There is no necessity to do an immediate log. It is always nice to receive a personal email about your cache, nice touch! (signed: a person who uses something cheap and never does C/P logs or full stop logs). I wasn't aware actually. But if there is anything important that needs attention i'll generally add a NM log or email the CO direct. I believe that I can add an offline log but then, I think, I would still have to edit it on my phone and I prefer to type using a fullsize keyboard.
  7. I'd just like to say as a cellphone cacher that I always leave a reasonable log. I copy paste an entry that states 'In field will edit later. TFTC' Then I go and write the proper log over the next couple of days via my computer. I also regularly email CO's if they have done a particularly wonderful cache or if, for instance, the cache is going to need attention soon. I think that just because some people who use cellphones are lazy doesn't mean that all cellphonme users are. People can just as easilly post C+P logs or "." ones over the internet. Who use something cheap like an etrex or even an in-car satnav. Cellphones have been the cause of many more people taking up the hobby which is both good and bad. However a more accessable hobby will mean that the people engaging are more likly to be representative of the general population no longer mostly "geeky walker" types.
  8. Hi. I'm also local to Bedford. I can highly recomend the BBH event. Or alternatively i'm always up for a beer with local cachers. Send me a message through the site and we can maybe meet up and get some caches.
  9. I think this is the oldest TB still in circulation. Certainly the one with the lowest number.
  10. Personally I would prefer to get 10 smaller caches rather than one epic multi. The thought of spending a significant amout of time and effort working to get nothing would really put me off.
  11. Here is the forum post. And this is the cache being refered to.
  12. It's a new type of travel bug, you now have to find someone else and do the same, and send the £note on its way. Nope i've checked at length and I could find no evidence of a Tracking number or the words Trackable on Geocaching.com Though maybe it would be kinds fun to write the tracking code for a TB onto the note and see if any geocachers pick it up.
  13. So yesterday whilst gathering some information on a puzzle cache I was mugged... but in reverse. I was reading some plaques and minding my own business when a huge Polish guy with tattoos on his ears accosted me in the street and forced £20 into my hands. He then just walked off. I shouted what's that for and he just said "nothing buy something nice". So has anyone else had something weird and cool happen to them whilst out caching?
  14. Yeah what they said. As far as worrying about people being allergic to bee stings. Well I wouldn't worry too much about them. Bee stings happen pretty often in the summer months. People who are allergic should carry an adrenalin shot with them (especially if the are participating in an outdoors activity like geocaching). I would hope that the CO would put a warning on the cache page though.
  15. It seems pretty likely that they are. The trackables all belong to the same person (the one with the copy coin and it has their name on it.
  16. I just retrieved a GC from a cache and it's a copy. Someone has taken the code from a coin they have kept but made a copy out of wood (which is pretty cool TBH). However packaged in with the 'coin' is another token with 7 GC codes on the back saying 'Icon anyone?' and a username. This seems to refer to 7 other GC's that are similar copies. Has anyone else come across this sort of thing? What's your opinion on it?
  17. So who's up for an attempt to do all 48 in something crazy like 48 hours?
  18. I did that as well. But as the cache was not visited very often I went and completed another cache before returning on my way home. Of course it turns out that someone had visited the cache during that time and had logged a needs maintenence report. Doh.
  19. Personally i've noticed that the amount of time I spend offline(ish I still have my smartphone) has ramped up considerably since I started caching. I go out for walks nearly every day instead of spending time either on the intertubes or xbox. Hunting bits of tupperware just gives me a reason to do it. That said it has been remarked that i've just exchanged one addictive behaviour for another.
  20. I'll toss the Ouse Valley Way mile marker series into the hat. Only 88 caches so far but they stretch along the entire Ouse valley way (150 miles).
  21. I don't see why not. One of the best finds i've had so far is a piece of magnetic plastic which acts as a logbook. I think just because micro's are generally film canisters doesn't mean they always should be. If using just a piece of paper in a bag is going to create a better hide then i'm all for it.
