  1. Thanks for the idea - we are all set up on cointracking.com with Paypal...now if we could only figure out how to do it here...... [
  2. Ooops, sorry about that - we're newbies at this stuff!! Should be fixed now.
  3. Hi all, We are a family of 5, well 6 with our geo-dog, and we just finished designing our 1st coin to celebrate our 1000th find. We are hoping to sell a few and we are looing for advice on how to go about it. Link for Our coin: COIN Details: 1 5/8 coin made in nickel and in gold imitation hard enamel GC.com Trackable hmmm, think that's it. Two local cachers had a great idea with a cache - it's at the Animal Protective Foundation (APF) - every time the cache is found they donate $1 to the APF. Having gotten many of our four legged family members from animal shelters, we were hoping to do something similar so... ...we are selling our coin for $8.50 per coin with $1.00 from each coin sale to be donated to the APF. Shipping is $1.50 for one coin and $0.50 for each additional coin. We expect to receive our order of coins in about two weeks. Also, our plan was to do this through PayPal - we are working on getting this set up right now - may take us a bit, we're newbies at this stuff!! Thanks, Geosliders
  4. OK - Hopefully this isn't asking too much we really appreciate that you did this for us and how quickly you did it. The kids love the picture - they were wondering if there was a way to make the five of us sliding down the side (even if you had to change the photo) - any kind of figures that look like 2 adults and 3 kids and then our Geosliders name sliding around us. I have no idea what this takes as far as time - if we are asking for a lot please feel free to tell us - thank you again for helping us - this is fantastic!
  5. I don't know if this is what you want but it is a shot. My creative cap isn't working well tonight. Actually that is pretty cool - I can't wait to grab all the minisliders and show it to them - THANKS!!!!!!!!
  6. It must work somehow - Two cachers up here in the Saratoga, NY area met while seeking a geocache - a couple years later they are now planning their wedding and have a cache "She Said Yes" dedicated to them. Vistas are great - but, if you are looking for a partner that loves to cache with you - a nice easy trail multi is the perfect test.
  7. We just found this post - we are fairly new to these forums. We have been trying to come up with an avatar but we are not very good at it. If someone out there is willing to help us out - that would be great. Our cache name - Geosliders - came from our first cache that was done in the winter - the hilly trails were covered in ice so we slid down most of them - standing, sitting, sideways - we covered them all and had a blast. We are a family of five and our favorite caches are mountain trails and preserves. We don't take our selves to seriously and would love an avatar that reflects that. Thanks so much for any help!!
  8. Different how? If you go to the coords, go up or down from that 2-D point, and find a container, then it's a traditional cache ... no? If you've got to dive, there's a "SCUBA gear required" attribute to flag it as such, along with a 5-star terrain rating. Those all seem sufficient to describe that type of situation. similar - yes - in the same way that earthcaches, mystery and multis are similar - You have a coordinate set - you find a cache at the end - unlike a land placed cache, you cannot swim out to the point where you are being directed with your GPSr in one hand and then dive to find (unless you have the luxury of waterproof gear - which most do not) - nor are these caches meant to make that equipment necessary. Many times (most in our case) - you stand on the rocks on shore, estimate your arrival point out in the water - swim out and start searching. In our area (upstate NY Adirondacks) they are typically done in lakes where scuba diving is not as common and the caches are meant to make you try new technigues for searching underwater without special equipment - this means move slow and dont stir the water or your now searching the bottom with your hands and feet. The exisiting icons would be "sufficient" - but, these are very different because they are not hidden or found on dry land - making it a very different kind of find. Just our 0.02.....if it happens - Wahoooooo - if not - on to the next find

    Hydrocaches

Recently hydrocaches have become more popular in our area. A hydrocache (unofficially) is a cache that is placed underwater in a waterproof container and can only be retrieved by going underwater to find it. These types of caches of very different both in what is required to place them as well as what is required to retrieve them. Although there is an attribute that is available to indicate that entering the water may be required - we were hoping that a new icon could be established to identify such caches - much like an earthcache, mystery, etc - because they are so different from a standard cache. We emailed Groundspeak and suggested this for review (icon could be simple - waterdrop, etc) - because it would affect the entire caching community it was suggested that we post it on the forums and see where it went. So, we are putting ot out there for comments................
  10. We're from just north of Albany (~1hr north of Kingston) and we'd be interested.
  11. We've been caching since Feb 2002 - our group covers 7, 10,11, 36 & 38 - we felt like we were some of the young ones in the area until we went to the NY Geocachers event this weekend and bumped into some people who went to the same college that my husband and I met at it. So, we told the couple "oh, we met there in 1986" - the 'girl' part of the couple then said - Wow, I was ONE YRS OLD in 1986! Ugghhhh - talk about feelin' OLD!
  12. We have been caching for a while but we just started paying attention to the Geocoins - can someone clarify something on etiquette - most people have been telling us - if you find a coin that wants to move - grab it, log it and get it moving where it wants to go - like a TB. Yesterday soemone told us we should only retrieve a coin from a cache if we have another one to replace it with - which is it? They will move more easily and frequently if treated like a TB.
  13. We're going to be in NYC this weekend to tsee the Statue of Liberty and we're trying to find a cache on Liberty Island. We know it's considered federal lands but we thought there would at least be few virtuals there and we can't seem to find any. If anyone knows of any caches there please let us know. We'll be coming in from Liberty State Park in NJ and we've already scouted out a few caches at that park. Thanks for the help.
  14. Thank you to many who have emailed - it looks like our bug will be taking off again from down south - Cachers are the best people!!!!! I cannot wait to tell the kids we will be on the move again shortly!! This June - we'll set free three or four bugs!
  15. Positives: - Great fun and exercise with the kids - teaching them there IS more to life than gameboy - find interesting, new and beautiful places every time - meeting new people with similar interests Negatives: - MOSQUITOS - UUUGGHHH! - Found out Poison Ivy is not my friend - getting Dog Poo that was on the trail out of a five year olds sneaker is not fun
  16. We dont know what to do - last June (2004) we set out a travel bug in a cache (St. Marys Travel Bug, zip 12065) - the "we" was two second and two third grade classes - we are a small private school - so, coming up with the money to get the field trip was hard enough - getting four classes of eight and nine year olds to venture on a cache in the woods in June was another feat. In then end - they worked hard and they all did it!! our bug asked to see the country - or even the world and make it back to upstate NY by May/June of 2005. We then set up a map with the hopes of tracking our bug around the country for the next school year and learning about the places and people it got to see along the way. It only made a few stops before it was picked up and was headed to Seattle - WOW - the kids were exstatic!!! BUT - we haven't heard from our bug again. The kids are really bummed - I have emailed the last person to log in with our bug several times but, haven't rec'd any responses - the same person has logged on many times - so we know they are still caching - we just want to know what happened to our bug..if it was lost we would just like to know so we can somehow get it going again and the kids can enjoy it and learn something while they are at it - any suggestions on what to do?? I dont want to post the cachers name - I dont think that would be right - we just want our bug to be on the move again! Geosliders for St. Mary's Travel Bug
