  1. Thanks! Your pocket query has been saved and currently results in 58 caches. Wow, I guess there is a price for living in a small town. I can't even imagine having a 1000 caches in less then 10 mile radius. This got me thinking so I ran one from my inlaws in Calgary, AB. Maxed out at 1000 in 10 miles. So I started reducing the radius until I got Thanks! Your pocket query has been modified and currently results in 923 caches in a 6 mile radius.
  2. I hear you Har_D and DirtyDogs! I have 3 little kids (7,5,&3) and take them caching all the time. As soon as the gps makes the 50m "bong" noise the kids ask "Daddy, what size is this one?" If I say anything other than micro they start planning which items they are going to trade and what they hope to find in the cache. If I say micro then there a bunch of "ahh, why are there so many micros?" but they still like to get out and look. They really enjoy finding unique micros. But even they are bored of bison tubes in pine trees! My 5 year old is a very dedicated cacher. The other two usually play with their swag for a while then it just either ends up under their beds or just disappearing. My 5 year old though keeps all his swag in a tool box he got for Christmas. And he remembers where most of them came from.
  3. Well we went on a little 6 cache mini-adventure today. It was me and 3 kids ages 5,4,&3! We just went caching around the county to see some backroads, some beautiful scenery, and have a picnic! I have to say that geocaching is taking me places I would never have gone. Not just fancy "amazing" places but on some really fun scenic drives to see where I live in a knew light. We all had a blast and our view for our picnic was epic. How about some photos! Picnic View North(with a cache 100m away) Picnic View South
  4. I have to agree with the previous posts. They were with you so they should get the I would also include something along the line of "Found with The Ant Farm" or "Signed as The Ant Farm." Do you mind me asking how old your kids are? My children also want an account each. However they are very little. 7,5,&3. I think it would be cool that if they are still caching when they are adults to be able to look all the way back to when they were this young and see their finds. But as they are little I would end up doing all the logging for the two youngest for now. Sounds like a lot of work. Should I do it? Sorry if am hijacking your thread
  5. Went on a Geocaching marathon today. My wife, Kraezy, and I took our 3 kids ages 7B,5B&3G, on a 12 hour, 30 cache, 200+ km geocaching whirlwind. They were troopers. Very little fussing all day. Helps that we had a blizzard break but hey.
  6. Long weekend here in Alberta too. Turns out we got lucky and ended up with a 4 day weekend. Today was all about marathon caching. 12 hours of caching today and my 3 kids, 7,5,3, all made it. Okay the three year old slept through the last 3 geocaches. Our goal was 20 caches today to set a good family record. Well, we destroyed it. 30 finds and 3 DNFs!!! Yeah GO TEAM! We had a blast and got some great pics. Almost hit a pair of Elk with the CachingStar (Our Ford Minivan)! Saw some great country and some fun to drive backroads. Had a blast as a family. The kids did get tired and around 10:30 my 7&5 year old boys started telling nothing but fart jokes for a good 7 minutes. It was awesome! Can't wait to here what stories y'all can create this long weekend. And for all the haters, please enjoy the following. (NOT KID FRIENDLY: LYRICS)
  7. I thought it would be great to have a thread to talk about our adventures. All across Canada their are some great times being had every day. Lets share those stories and hopefully share some must cache locations. I'll get it started. Thursday night my wife (Kraezy) and I realized that we both had Friday off. Not just that, it was a flex Friday, so no school for the kiddos (ages 7,5,3). We stayed up super late and had a movie night with popcorn and candy. After the flick we asked the kids what we should do for our unplanned Family Friday! They all shouted "Go Caching!" So we tucked them into bed and I fired up the cache map on the site to find a nice, close by, cache dense target. About 45 minutes drive away was a semi small town, Stettler AB, with plenty of caches. Managed to scrounge up a PQ and in the morning, okay it was noon we were up late watching a movie, we packed up and hit the road. On the drive there we managed 5 finds and no DNFs. We made it to the town around 1:30pm and are now taking a supper and blizzard break (6pm). We have found 15 so far and DNF 3. Our goal for the day was 20 finds and we have already made that. So all this evenings finds are going to be gravy! We have found a lot of micros. Stettler loves the micro cache! There have been some real fun ones and some real hard ones. We even had to chase off some geese to get to one. I wish I remembered to take more pictures but I get caught up in the hunt and forget to take the camera out until we are headed back. Well that is part of our Adventures In Canada! Now tell us about yours.
  8. From Alberta here but I would be in on this for sure if I was from Ontario! I hope you get enough people interested to make this happen.
  9. His name is Tim, he is from Napanee, Ontario Tim is a long way from home then. I took his picture at Lake Minnewanka near Banff Alberta. He must have been there on holiday like me.
  10. Looks great! Is it strong enough to be used as a zipper pull? Would look good hanging from my caching bag.
  11. I have seen a many containers, in my as of yet short geocaching career, that are covered in mulch, rocks, sticks, etc... The OP stated that they have not placed the cache yet. That is clearly just a demo picture. I think it is a great idea and placed well with the right camo cover would make for a fun cache. There is room for improvement sure but a great idea none the less.
  12. I have a Delorme PN-40 and love it. I would love a pn-60 next but am debating going to a 62s for the bigger screen. But I am in no hurry as my pn-40 is still doing an awesome job.
  13. Well how about this one? Hope you don't mind the slight off topic as your bird was solved
  14. So glad you posted this. I have been trying to think of something to do with my wife and kids for Mothers Day. Now I know, I am going to take them to find this cache and then stay for a day to see the sites. I have never even heard of this park until today so this contest is definitely getting the word out there about parks canada! And who knows maybe we will win a parks pass and can go see many many more this year.
  15. As a newbie and a guy who had to teach his less than techy parents how to use the geocaching website, I really like the look of the new look.? I think that they went for a more newbie friendly look and feel as geocaching appears to me to be growing.
  16. I would say that the easiest option I could think of is go to your email inbox and search for the account verification email. If you did not delete it that should work. If you did... next!
  17. Those look awesome! Would you mind sharing how you made them? I have been trying to come up with a sig item idea for ages and these gave me an idea but I have no idea how they are made. If you want to keep it a secret no hard feelings!
  18. I have never met anyone geocaching let alone a famous person. Doubtful there are many celebs hanging out in my neck of the woods to begin with. I have met some famous people at a past job. I have met Tom Jones (awesome and friendly), many CFL Football players, many NHL hockey players (new and old), 50 cent (Again very friendly and chatty), Snoop Dogg (exactly what his stereotype is), Cher (snobby), and a bunch more. Due to my job I was not allowed to ask for autographs but Snoop gave me one with out asking and Tom Jones gave my wife and I tickets to his concert. My wife was 7.5 months pregnant and Tom's voice induced labour, it's my theory anyways, 10 hours after the concert I had my first son, 5.5 weeks premature. Sorry to go a little off topic.
  19. As a newbie to geocaching I hope that all of the star ratings are as accurate as possible because that is a huge factor as to whether or not I attempt it yet. So mark me down for a vote for the stars not being in stone!
  20. I am happy with where I live and don't plan on leaving. I live in a small town called Trochu, Alberta, Canada. The three things I like best about Trochu are: 1. Small town country life. Friendly people and a more relaxed lifestyle. 2. The amazing countryside. Right in the Alberta bad lands with the Rocky mountains 1 hour west. 3. Home of the worlds largest golf tee. Every town needs something to be proud of!
  21. I hope everyone heals quickly! I have only just begun geocaching and already I have bloodied a cache location. On a beautiful walk down a scenic trail we, Kraezy(wife) & I, were also trying to find our first caches. GPSr got us to ground zero and the search began. My wife spotted the cache and exclaimed "right there!" I was almost standing on it and in my hurry to grab the cache I bent down through a tree and almost pierced my upper ear on a very pointy branch. I couldn't believe the amount of blood! Took almost two weeks to heal up.
  22. Thanks everyone for the answers. I really like geocaching and am usually a very technically inclined person but all this gps tech is new to me. I am enjoying learning all I can.
  23. +1 I have to say as a newbie myself I would love a trail like that to get my eye in. I would say it needs to go from big to small so you don't just frustrate us newbies. I hope this catches on. If there isn't one locally when I hit my 100 find mark or so I think I will create one. Hope you don't mind me borrowing the idea
  24. Was all I found searching "marriage, cake, and wedding" Edit: added a link here!
