  1. What is a caching zone? A series of coins that is made like a puzzle and when you put them all together they make a map of the United States including Alaska and Hawaii and part of Canada. The time zones are different colors so by looking at the colors you can see which state is in what time zone. I just thought it was a unigue way to learn the different time zones. I have even used it to figure out what time it is is another state.
  2. I started buying coins because we have 41 caches and like to have tb's or coins in them. So I was releasing them all but I have a 3 year old grandson and I saw the caching zones and thought what a neat way for him to learn the zones when he got older. Then I found all kinds of them I wanted to buy and save for him so it started our collection of keeping coins. We was releasing the coins so others would be able to see them and discover them, move them along for others to enjoy so when I wanted to save some for my grandson we activated them so other people could still discover them. But once you activate them, they go into your inventory on your account page until you drop them some where. I have dial up so that would really slow me down. I drop them into an unpublished cache listing I created to get them out of my inventory. An archived cache would work the same way. It isn't a cache people would be going to but a place to get their coins out of their inventory. I don't know if a coin tracking list takes it out of their inventory or not. I have coins that I haven't activated yet because here in Maine most of our caches our under a whole lot of snow so I activate them when I am putting them into a cache. I saw in the forum the white elephant exchange so decided while I was waiting for the snow to go I would try that. I have never traded a coin so can't answer a question about that.
  3. After reading this last night, I thought it was a really neat idea. Here in Maine most of our caches are buried in a whole lot of snow. But I wanted to do something so I checked into the Race for the Cure in Maine and I decided I would participate this year. Ours isn't until September 21 and I discovered there is a variety. They have a 1K fun race, a 5K run/walk, teams and individual. At first I thought this was to late to help tsunrisebey but then I decided it would just be a way to keep this very important cause in the minds of people all year long. Menace and I have talked about doing this for a few years but never did but we are committed to doing it this year and this summer we will release coins and TB's to remind people about breast cancer. Sorry we won't be coming to run with you. Our motto is we will go outside of Maine when we have seen all of our own state. We just aren't travelers and like to be in our home every night and we have lots more to see in Maine. With geocaching we are always finding new places to see. You wanted inspiration and you inspired us to join you by doing the race for the cure in our own state. I wonder how many more cachers will be inspired to at least look into the Susan G. Komen, Race For The Cure in their state. What a nice way to keep tsunrisebey inspired. Keep the races going all year long. Stay focused on the reason your doing it then it will make the training bearable. That is what I am going to do.
  4. "Happy New Year" It is 2008 in Maine. -New Year's Resolutions: Enjoy the roller coaster ride of life, make a difference in someones life, enjoy another year of caching with our little group and spend lots time with my grandson. Happy New Year and hope 2008 is a little better than 2007 for everyone.

  6. The candy cane hasn't been uploaded to the server yet so that is probably the same with the other ones. Once it has been uploaded it will change to the unique icon automatically. They have been uploading some because some of mine has changed but not the candy cane yet. Sometimes it does take a while for it to be uploaded but there is a lot to this site, it will get uploaded. The people doing it does a good job and probably are like most of us, have to much going on. Happy New Year!

  10. Coin in a container. Have an ammo can or a lock and lock and a coin. Have a line to throw from but if there are small kids there, have a line closer for them and as they throw the coin and try to get it into the container, have them tell a story that happened to them while geocaching or something about geocaching. If they miss they are out. Last one with the coin wins it. New cachers will be learning about caching and stories are always entertaining.
  11. We had always liked just taking an old dirt road and seeing where it would go so when we heard about geocaching it sounded like something we would enjoy. It has taken us to some really fabulous places that we would never of known about if not for caching. Our grandson was born 7 weeks early and came to our house when he was released from the hospital two weeks later. Being a really high risk baby he wasn't allowed contact with people but was ok'd to go caching. He thrived and loves to cache and has two caches that he takes care of. One at his house and one at nana and papa's house, our house. We didn't realize how educational geocaching was until our daughter met a man with a daughter and she started caching with us. We made it educational and fun and now she is an honor roll student. Playing sports and heading for a great life. So for us geocaching has been a life saver, and it is part of the foundation of our lives. So we have a very strong foundation that we share with others and it is amazing the changes in people when they discover caching.
  12. Silver with ruby red center. Seems about the only thing I know about Kansas is Dorothy and her ruby red slippers. I have moved two of the Kansas Sunshine coins here in Maine so it must have lots of sunshine too.
  13. My first post because I buy coins to keep. The coins I buy has some educational purpose, such as the geocaching zones. Great little tool for my grandson to use to learn the different zones. Some have history like the Wright Brothe Memorial. I may never get there but the memorial is on the coin. Then there is the ones that remind me of something, like I just ordered cacher needs maintenance because my brother-in-law goes caching with us and he has fallen so many times, fell into the thorn bushes, had many accidents and when I saw the coin I thought of how entertaining it is to go geocaching with him. So I don't buy coins to send out, although some I have sent out to travel but rather I buy coins that reminds me of a place I want to visit, like the Alaska coin, my retirement dream is to go to Alaska. The jeeps because I have always wanted a Wrangler jeep. haven't got the real thing yet but the jeep coins is a reminder that someday I will have the real thing. It is like at Christmas time when we hang the ornaments and they all have a special meaning. The coins I buy has special meanings to us so I couldn't part with them.
