  1. Send an email to Jeremy and ask him. Then post the reply (if noteworthy) back here. It might be a glitch, or perhaps they have "tweaked" something in cyberland...
  2. Oh My Brotha Radman?! Take a quick peak at your last, lost post, You decry that you were both immature (and yes, you didn't run thru spellcheck) and mature at the same time. No wonder you are onfused and filled with angst oh my brotha! I can only suggest taking 2 night caches, and another one in the morning! You'll be glad you did! :
  3. Wilderness areas should be just that; wilderness. I think it's up to us Geocachers, acting through our local groups, to work with the various land management agencies. We need to form good working relationships with those agencies to further our sport. The posting from leavenotrace does raise an issue that needs to be dealt with in a positive manner. The reality is simply that he is not in a position of authority over any of the lands in question. And the local Geocaching organization needs to be in touch with that agency to discover what that agencie's needs and wishes are. The Michigan Geocaching Organization has discovered that our national, state, and local authorities are very willing to help up help them It takes some time and effort, but the results are worth it! Forging those kinds of solid working relationships furthers the credibility of the sport, and opens the lines of comuniction as well.
  4. quote:I support this site and its the only database I use, but I ruffle at the opinion that geocaching.com IS geocaching. I second this sentiment! Geocaching is starting to suffer from it's own success and exponential growth. Thus the Groundspeak site is battling a losing war over controlling an entire sport. If this is a truly "Democratic" sport, then the ever elusive travelling caches would be allowed.
  5. quote:Originally posted by ZingerHead:Here's another http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/2003/iraq-and-gps_faq.pdf that supports the claim that civilian GPS won't be affected. Seems that local jamming "in-theatre" is more effective than SAS. This is exactly what I have been hearing, both on local "chats", and on the "news". Unless the USA gets invaded by a horde of mogrels throughtout out contintent, it makes no sense to degrade the whole system.
  6. Maybe we'll see it up at the Soo Gathering this weekend?!

  8. Just checking to see if this works?
  9. Really it all depends on just how much of an extreme you are going to put yourself through! But a good quality basic first aid kit and a little resourcefull ness go a long way!
  10. I did have one travel bug dropped off in one of my 'caches that hadn't been activated yet. I had to find the owner and get the activation code. That could account for some missing miles.

    geokayaking!

  12. It had to happen, alas! The problem with our fast growing sport is that it is a fast growing sport. In the absence of any real authority, we have been a remarkably well behaved group of people. This is probably the truest example of a Democracy we will ever participate in! So I find myself hoping we don't need more of a governing body, but realizing that we will get one anyway! Probably Jeremy will pick some reliable people to help him with the avalanche of new 'caches. But it might be good idea for us to start this discussion, before it is answered without our input. In short, I vote "no". ____________________________________________________________ "To me, everything is mathematics" - Rene Descatres
  13. The real topic here is responsibility! Yes, the R word. As 'cachers we DO have a responiblity to the land we hike through. And yes, that newspaper has a responsiblity to provide a beter balanced story. Just because the "reporter" shirked her responibility, doesn't mean we should/will shirk ours! It might not be a bad idea for some 'cachers local to AZ to invite her out on a hunt. Even if she declines, we will have made a point. If she accepts, we may have a new 'cacher in our fold. Either way, this is a place to "Think Globally, act Locally" To Magic!

  15. Team Sandrich's point of view comes from my involvement with the Manistee National Forest. After LOTS of very diplomatic emails and calls, I finally got to the right people to talk with, yea! Here in Northwest Lower Michigan, the NFS was already, in general, not opposed to Geocaching. But, no one in the NFS wanted to give me an actual OFFICIAL blessing. So, eventually I did get the official blessing, with an admonition that if Geocaching gets out of hand, the NFS can UNapprove if they wish. So far, I have continued with a "pleseant working relationship" with the NFS in the Manistee Natl Forest. Since I was/am dealing with bureaucrats, definetly abide that I'll get more flies with honey than vinegar!!If we all can maintain a good positive image for our sport locally, then when you come up against park that doesn't go for it, you can cite examples of other similar parks that do go for it! And yes, give them erferences also. To Magic!

  17. Team Sandrich feels that reading the logs are the best way to raye the experience of any particular 'cache. The other user logs can and do give you a good feel for how the experience is going to be.

    NGS in Canada

Hi there! Down south, in the states, we are trtying to get all the National geodectic Survey Benchamarks into our database. So far, the U.S.A. has given us all the information they can. Unfortunetly, the Canadian goverment has not. Can any of you good Geocachers in Canada get the coordinates of the NGS Benchmarks in your country? If so, we can add them to the database!Or, do you any of you know where I can look online? Please let me know, thanx! Team Sandrich jamiewrich@hotmail.com
  19. Hello all, a producer from a hi-tech tv show in toronto had contacted me about doing an interview, and following around on a hunt. Only problem is, Team Sandrich is in Michigan, and the show doesn't have the buget $ to come down here. S, if any of you in the greater Toronto area want the contact info, please email to me: jamiewrich@hotmail.com then I can send the contact info to you ;-) Thanx! Jamie
  20. Geocaching has been approved in the Manistee National Forest. If you point your browser to the following URL, you can see the guidelines: http://www.mi-geocaching.org Please note that approval was obtained ONLY for the Manistee National Forest. Also, approval is always pending OUR good stewardship of the forest. My hope is that we can use this to build pleasant working relationships with other government entities.
