  1. I am loath to buy Garmin's expensive and lower capacity rechargable battery pack and would prefer to use the better Eneloops for recharging via USB. I realize that there is microswitch which is triggered by the case of the expensive Garmin pack to start the recharging but this as far as I can see can be replicated by using a small thin strip of plastic between the two Eneloops to trigger the switch . Does anyone do this out there , does it work ?. Thanks all
  2. Hello all, Just hoping that someone can supply a nice easy set of instructions on how to load open street topo maps onto an Oregon 450 GPS - so far I have failed miserably and must be doing somthing wrong big time . Many thanks
  3. About half the people here say you don't need a compass while the other half say you do. I am in the camp that says yes. Sure you can cache without it but it really helps during those last couple hundred feet where you are stopping and starting walking all the time. Especially if you just had a GPS with it I'm sure you will miss it. It is much easier to buy a GPS with the electronic compass and turn it off then to not get it and regret the decision. thankls Tim , so which paperless GPS would you go for ?
  4. Great thanks for the quick reply . question is can I do without the compass .
  5. Hello all, I have a Garmin Vista HCx at the moment but have been offered a Garmin Gpsmap 62 for not a lot of money. I would love to go paperless but is this an OK unit to use , will it perform. Thanks all
  6. Hello all . I am new to the geo-catching game and need some quick help with a new Garmin Summit HC I have. The Garmin HC comes with a basemap but really this has very little detail on it. The question I hae is: what sort of map would you recommend I load onto the Summit HC ( only an internal memeory) , do I buy a Garmin UK Topo map or somthing else . Thanks in advance
