  1. This doesn't appear to have shown up online yet. In fact, right now, the URL for the magazine isn't working. So, I scanned the article and its pictures. If you were at the Snyder's Flats tree planting in April, then this should be familiar.

  2. Hi,

I'm going to be visiting Montreal from England in a few weeks time for the Canadian Grand Prix (i'm working) and wonder if anybody knows of any caches in Montreal that I 'must do' whilst i'm here.

    thanks

    Alex

This is was my favourite when I was in Montreal in Nov 08. Simple, micro cache - great view.

Parc Maissoneuve is a nice, flat place to walk around and grab some finds as well. This one is kinda in the middle of the area, so work your way out from it.

  3. After going missing on at least two occasions, Tantor, a bug I left in Vancouver in 2005, made its way home to Ontario. The only problem was that its original cache goal (the one I traded it out of) was gone, so instead it returned to one of my caches. It did get a virtual return to the cache though.

This is just a little reassuring note for people who have had their bugs vanish on them. Sometimes, they will survive and complete their goals!

  4. On the episode that will be airing tomorrow (9/30) in the States, but is currently airing now in Canada, the show opens with a couple of geocachers chasing down a FTF coming across a corpse.

Depressingly, the two cachers manage to short circuit the geek-o-meter.

  5. Im not sure what to do with the signature items either. Why do I want a thing that says fred and sally found this cache? Did they trade for that and what did they consider it's worth?

If I'm caching outside of my general radius, I love trading for signature items. A nice little way for me to remember the caches I've done in my travels. Sometimes, I'll even swap my sig items for somebody else's.

  6. I cached my way tourist style throughout Montreal during Grey Cup weekend, limiting myself to ones that google maps showed was within a KM or so of metro stations. I'd recommend getting a 3 day tourist pass for that.

Recommended areas with many caches are Parc Maissoneuve (near Olympic Stadium), and Jarry Park.

I was very hesitant to do any sort of multi, not knowing whether or not I'd be hit with a lot of French at a future stage, but GCWJQK (Baron Rutherford of Nelson) is an Anglo friedly urban multi if you want to break the run of traditionals. GC16H9F (Vi3w PoinT), by the Drapeau metro stop, was likely my favourite of the whole trip. Simple cache - great view!

  7. I'm more than willing to help out with a geo-tour of some of the trails in the area.

The only problem is that I don't drive, so you'd have to either meet me at the location in question, or help with transportation. If you want to do ones that I haven't done (so we are all searching for the cache) Guelph would be the best option. If you just want to sample, then there are a couple cache-heavy trails in K-W with a nice collection.

  8. I did a cache this morning (GC1HVEQ). It was your typical magnetic key holder on a guardrail, but this one was located at a dead end street in a residential area. Not the best place for a cache, but an easy find.

I open it, and don't find a logbook. Instead, I find the business card of a local constable, with his name, badge number, and phone contact. Plus the message "Call Me".

I was out of that area as quickly as I could.

I would have signed the buisess card - why take the DNF :D

Quickly as I could = After initialling the business card. No chance that I find and open the container and take a DNF.

  10. Let's try again. Maybe the forecast won't change this time and things will go perfectly.

Saturday June 9th, meet at Cambridge-Paris Rail Trail Bike Tour (GC125F7) and complete it and the caches on the bookmark list below. The trail is very flat and is hard-packed dirt for much of the way. Very minimal crossing of streets, especially after you pass the Footbridge. There's plenty of legal parking at the trailhead.

I'm not available for a June 10th rain date, but if others want to consider that the rain date, I wouldn't object.
