  1. I take back the part about the maps working fine on my new system after turning off Norton firewall. It seemed to work for an hour or two then quit. No I did NOT turn Norton Firewall back on, despite Norton's constant message that my computer was UNPROTECTED. I did find out that if I find a cache in the area I want to cache in I can do a pocket query and display the results all on one map. Guess I will just have to hobble by that way for now. I sure do miss being able to scroll though :-( that was why I paid for the premium membership.
  2. Is Groundspeak going to pay for a new anti-virus program for all my computers. This is ridiculous, just bought a new computer with Vista (hate it) and IE 7.0. Still does not work!! Turned off Norton (my new computer is now at risk) and still 'requesting geocaches'. Maybe someone could start another geocaching website. Seems like its about time for some competition. thesandman Correction, just turned off Norton Firewall. Still not happy that I have to 'unprotect' my computer to get my caches. Do not the programmers at Groundspeak know that most people use Norton?? Making their software incompatabile with Norton is like making a car that does not run on gasoline, just doesn't make sense! thesandman Update: Just tried this (turning off Norton Firewall) with my laptop and no luck. So it's definately NOT JUST Norton!!! My Laptop has XP and IE 6.0, my desktop Vista, and IE 7.0. If Groundspeak does not fix this I will not be renewing my PREMIUM membership! Perhaps if they start to lose money they will fix this or at least bring back the old maps as an option.

  5. It took me 3 months to find this thread so you are right on that one. According to geocaching.com's front page their have been X number of logs written by 50,000 + account holders in the last 7 days. I am not one of those 50,000 people... But even if every other geocacher has done at least one cache in the last seven days that is over 500 people using the 1% theory, which btw I don't agree with either...
  6. Even if it did work correctly I liked the old maps better. I just don't see why they can not keep the old maps as an option. They have other maps available! I don't see why I should have to spend my time and money for new software just to get these maps to work on my system. Guess I just won't be caching as much as I used to anymore... sandman
  7. I haven't cached in 2 months due in part to these new messed up maps. Why couldn't they leave the old maps??? Yes I can create a pocket query, but I liked being able to see the map and cache listing on one page. I am using XP, IE 6.0, Norton 360 Internet Security and I am a premium member. Not sure if I will be a premium member much longer though. The map jumps all over the place when I try to scroll and I have been looking at the 'Requesting Geocaches' message for 4 hours now (sometimes it works, rarely). I agree with the sentiment that 'Even Microsoft doesn't release software this buggy. Of course if they did I would think they would have fixed it by now. thesandman
  8. ok, maybe I was exagerating about 100 times more trouble (more like 25 times more difficult), but I really liked being able to download all the coords for an area all at once. I don't have anything against the new maps other than it shows no caches where I know there are many (maybe I am just trying at the wrong times), I just wish I could still use the old ones. And I live in Florida so the terrian option does little for me. sandman
  9. Am I the only one who can't figure out the new maps? If I try to move around I get a message that says 'parsing caches' but never any caches. That and they jump around like crazy, I want to move a little bit and end up on the other end of town. And when I actually do get some caches to appear I can only download one at a time to my GPS. The old maps would let you download an entire area (up to 25 caches) at once. I miss the old maps. Maybe they are still out there hidden somewhere. If so can someone please help me find them. My time downloading caches with these new maps is 100 times greater to the point where I have just given up. Sandman
  10. I have a Garmin ETrex legend. After about a year and a half the joystick quit working, well it didn't quit completely if I tap on it enough it will work in the down direction only. Then I took it to Ohio, was doing some caching in ~5F degree weather and ever since the screen will go out on me now and then. Again, tap on it a little and it comes back. Think I will try a magellan, many of the folks I cache with swear by magellan. And my brother in law also has a Garmin (much more expensive version) and he says his joysitck goes out on him also. That is just my personal experience.
