Well I've just done the upgrade, nothing's broken...yet. Have a big caching trip planned for the weekend, so I'll find out soon enough. Wish me luck!

Thanks RamblinBear. I eventually came to the same conclusion. Bit annoying it wasn't clearer in the instructions (or that I didn't pay enough attention.) :-)

Has anyone got this process to work recently? (the direct download from Garmin). I recently bought an Etrex 30 and the Webupdater fails with the "file corrupted" message and the direct download links don't seem to work either. Any ideas? Thanks! Thank You!!!!! I was able to locate the GCD file and now have version 2.50 on my eTrex 20. Still have no idea why it won't work via web updater, but at least now I know an alternate method to get it updated.

Have to admit the new maps (esp. satellite view) are pretty disappointing. This is Australia's capital city, zoomed in one level from the view which shows the entire state: At least I can see my finds...
