  1. I think some of the 'higher' prices may include 1:50000 UK maps. Might be wrong but would appreciate any further information on maps as I thinking of buying a Montana and am not sure what is exactly in the box so to speak.
  2. Thought that I might do some more earthcaches when on my travels so decided to look up a few. Using the advanced search option, I chose 'earthcache' 'by country' and selected the UK. This gave me 525 caches. All well so far. I then sorted them by terrain to get the more difficult ones at the top of the list on page 1. Again all was well. Then, I selected page 2 and was surprised to get 90000 odd caches of all descriptions. This happened a few days ago. Today, I tried again and all was well again at page 1 and then at page 2 and 3 all was looking good. I then went back to page 1 to look again at the high value difficulty terrain and got the 90000 odd caches again. Something is not quite working correctly or am I doing something wrong - can't think what. Anyone else having problems with the sort feature in this way. Thanks in advance.
  3. Retired gentleman geocacher based in Gloucestershire seeks lady with GPS to accompany him on his travels. Please send picture of GPS
  4. Whose name is Collin... Yep, that's the dude, I figured he'd know it was aimed at him 'cos he does the UK Geocaching Podcast, and has the link in his sig. I've been to several Events recently and there appears to be lots of cachers whose first name is Colin. Colin is my name too although I was unable to use it as a caching name, hence the C0lin.
  5. Ah yes. I have met Cornell and he is into podcasts and his name may well be Colin/Collin. Thanks. Still a pity that accessing the member list does not work properly though. Hmm. Can't see this myself. I don't have anything in my signature for the forums. However, I tried to see if member Colin has such but when I click on member list, all I get is my own profile, not a list of members. So, I searched for 'Colin' which gave 3 pages of possible results. What wanted was not on the first page and when I chose page 2, I get a message to say that there are no results for 'Colin' which is not right as I was looking at them. There seems to be other issues with this website. i'm quite sure he meant "Cornell", see second post, he has a podcast link in his signature

  7. Thanks everyone for the replies. If this problem persists, I will post a thread in the site feedback forum quoting this thread.
  8. Maybe this topic should be in the feedback forum for the site but before I do this, is anyone else struggling to get to their statistics. Since Thursday, I generally get a geocaching page with the message that "Statistics are not available at this time". Sometimes I get an Error 500 page and very occasionally I get to see my stats. Is it just my puter set up or does anyone else have this problem recently. Thanks.
  9. I find hurricane force winds really useful when using the GPS. I have it hung around my neck on a lanyard. When I am using it I have to hold it horizontal in front of me but when the wind is hurricane force, it does it for me and frees up both hands.
  10. Correct. They are activated and can be discovered. The main thing I've noticed is the ones in collectioni don't show up in the drop down list area when you log a cache. This is why the feature was added. So people with large collections can log easily, and find the ones they are actually moving in their list, without scrolling through hundreds. It's like a storage box. An online treasure chest, so to speak. Thanks everybody for that clarification.
  11. Can I just be clear on one point. If I have some coins in 'my collection', they can still be logged as discovered if I take them to, say, an event. I guess that this must be correct since they have been activated. I will not be dipping them or dropping them off in caches. Thanks
  12. as long as all we need is a torch we will give that one a go - 33 favorites makes it very intriguing! thanks Your dogs might not like 'Looking for Linda' but then again they might. It's a good one. If there is A LOT of rain before you do this one you might need to consider wellies. At the moment walking boots will do just fine. Try to get to 'Log This' - GC2MK8F. This is not far from King Arthur's Cave. If you do it, don't step back to admire the cache hiding place. I am reasonably local so if you want any info of the area, email me at my profile. Regards C0lin
  13. This is a 5/5 - welcome london by Geo Xpress Hamburg | GC2NTPX | South East England, United Kingdom At first sight it is not even a walk in the park. Must have one hell of a sting in the difficulty and terrain tails. If that is too tough for you, this one is easier, being 'only' a 4.5/5 - good bye london by Geo Xpress Hamburg | GC2NTPZ | South East England, United Kingdom Thought I might drive down for these two but there must be a cache, sorry, catch.
  14. I'm sure it'll be back soon. I'm just glad they are addressing the issues quickly. I guess you are right. Was a bit annoyed went it went down with no warning but have cooled down now. I see that they have updated twitter to acknowledge that it is down again. I am sure it will be even better when it is all fixed.
  15. Hmm I thought a hotfix was a software change on the fly. In other words without taking the site down. Now I am getting that annoying hamster telling me that the site will be taken down for maintenance on 4th May!! Thought today was May 6th. Not impressed.
  16. I was switching between two cache descriptions trying to crack a difficulty 5 puzzle and it just went down on me. I almost threw the laptop out of the window. Will have to start again another time.
  17. Well it was and I had to login again because it had not remembered me as it usually does. Twitter says it is back but it is down again - get an error page with the geocaching logo when I try to login. Had trouble getting into the forums as well as it needed me to log in again and said that I needed to use the login in the top right of the screen - trouble is there was no login feature anywhere on the screen. Very frustrating on a Friday night. Update - gone completely - 500 internal server error Think I might knock it on the head tonight and abandon caching tomorrow.
  18. Well, the Beta maps are showing the smilies tonight (GMT) but I cannot get the cache details from these maps, only the summary. However, by going back to the Google maps through the Beta maps page I can get the info I want for tomorrows caching except that it has taken an age as the site is so slow at the mo. It would be better if the problem was constant. Sometimes google maps works and sometimes not, sometimes Beta maps work and sometimes they don't and sometimes they don't even show some caches so it is very easy to be unaware of some of them. It is very frustrating in not knowing what you will get each time you log on.
  19. Apologises to my previous post. The link to the Beta maps has moved (way over to the right instead of top centre) and does not mention the word 'Beta' so it is possible to get to Beta maps but they don't work properly. However, there is a link to the 'original maps' in the Beta map page and this takes you to the Google maps. But the smilies are not showing.
  20. Even worse today. Cannot get to either Google maps or Beta (options not showing) so having to do everything using the coords and an OS map.
  21. Well, everything was going well for the past 2 or 3 days and all the smilies had returned. Today, 22nd April, they have gone again.
  22. Not only does the google maps not show my finds but the beta version shows SOME of my finds and some of my finds are not even shown as caches. So, if I was planning a caching trip using beta maps, not only would I be unsure of some of the caches that I had missed in a series for instance, I would also not see the existence of some other caches in the area. For example, there are caches near Devizes, England where I have done the series except for 2 which I had to walk past because of muggles. This series are the caches of Etchilhampton. These are not even shown as caches. However a couple of caches along the Devizes canal that I did the same day are shown as smilies?????? Maybe it will all come good soon and the beta maps will work fully as well.
