  1. Yay, found it in a cachers list of caches. Was surprised to see that it did not have a line through it indicating archived or disabled. When I went to the cache page, it was permanently disabled but I was able to log my finds and one added to my total. Has been found lots of times. Thanks for the suggestions!
  2. Thanks for that. Might try a local cacher who is bound to have found it.
  3. Hello all, . I am sure that this question has been asked before but I cannot find the answer. I have just found a cache in Ross-on-Wye which was listed and which I failed to find some time ago. I was just passing the spot again today and I saw said cache with ease. So, I get home to log it and can't find it listed or on the map. I remember the name of it was something like 'Locked' but cannot be sure of the exact title. It may be that it had apparently gone missing and thus disabled. It may be that it had become engulfed in vegetation and thus many FTFs and now it is back in view again. Any ideas? How can I log it?
  4. I was unaware of the sad event. Thank you for letting me know. I met her several times and would have liked to have gone to this caching event, but it was not to be.
  5. I see that Simplysup is now top of the UK caching list having toppled Drsolly recently. Congratulations to Simplysup on this achievement. Drsolly has been top for some time and was overtaken for a while by Esscafe who I see has slipped down the rankings to fourth and appears to be less active of late.
  6. Thanks everybody. I am sorted now and can see all the events.
  7. Thanks. That sorted it. As you say, they are sorted by distance from somewhere but at least they are all there. I missed the 'search only in' box because the contents were so greyed out that it was just about unreadable. My other mistake was to stupidly put United Kingdom in the first location box. I guess 'United Kingdom' is not a location!!! My results from that were, just for interest, four events in the Lake District and when I put 'England' in the first box, I got a whole stack of all sorts of types of caches based on 30 miles from a point in the East Midlands - bizarre. Thanks again for the help. Colin
  8. I must be missing something. With the new layout of the website, I cannot see how to find all of the events in the UK. I used to go to 'find a cache', choose 'advanced' then choose 'events', then choose 'country', then select 'United Kingdom' from the drop down menu and then 'send'. I could then scroll down the list of events of the UK. With the new layout on the website, the distance for searching is limited to 30 miles. I cannot see how to do what I used to but there has to be a way of doing it, but I am having a mental block. Can someone point me in the right direction please but be gentle with me, I am slow. Thanks.
  9. This morning (Feb 25) I cannot download to my GPS. As above I have downloaded the latest version of Communicator and checked that the USB software is up to date and it is. I then logged out, closed down the puter and switched off. Powered up again and still no go. I see from the Garmin website that IE is not supported. I cannot believe this. All this has been done with Windows 7 and Vista and IE. I also used Chrome and tried that buLost still no joy. Bit of a time consuming downer. I will set up Firefox and try again but what is going on? Edit - It works with Firefox. Lost a couple of hours caching time with this fiddling.
  10. Or select play, seek a cache, advanced, events, country, select country, send and a list of events will be shown.
  11. Yes, the wait is a long time. Additionally, I used to double click the icon to get the pop up box, but now a double click just zooms in on the map and no pop up box appears. A single click and the longish wait gives the pop up box.
  12. No, it is an issue which is the exact title of this thread - the bubble or pop up of the cache details does not appear from the map icon for the cache. OK, it just about works for me but I have only just found this 'workaround'. If you click and wait only a second or two and then move the cursor, nothing happens which is what many people are probably doing. If you wait long enough, the bubble appears but compared with other clicks the waiting is unacceptably long. I am running IE
  13. WEB03 for me when the situation is as described above i. e. only the 'hand' or 'clenched hand' with no pointing finger and a single click brings up the pop up box after a while.
  14. I have had this apparent problem but I am not sure there is a big problem here other than the 'hand' or the 'clenched hand' cursor does not change to the 'pointed finger' icon indicating a clickable link. What I find is that if I put the 'hand' cursor over the icon then click once (double click zooms in) then the pop up box will appear but it takes a long time (usually more than 5 seconds) and if I move the cursor before the pop up appears, nothing happens. Undoubtedly there is a problem but at least it works after a fashion.
  15. I have gone back to the satellite maps where only the 'hand' or the 'clenched hand' is available on the map. So apparently when I mouse over an icon, there is no change to the cursor. Nevertheless I have found that if you leave the mouse on the icon and click once (twice will zoom in) and then WAIT for about 5 seconds or so, the pop up box appears. If you move the mouse at all before the appearance then nothing happens. Not sure how long it has been like this but it does work after a fashion. At least I can look at cache details now without having to open up a second window and toggle between the map and a list of caches.
  16. Ok, I have found another work around. Having done the map options thing I posted above, if the double click on the icon only zooms in instead of producing the pop up box, leave the cursor on the icon, right click, select properties and then select cancel and the as if by magic, the pop up box appears automatically - no clicking is required. Not sure how long this will work as this whole thing seems to have a mind of its own.
  17. I'll take back what I have just posted. It was working but not now. At least the 'pointing finger' still appears as I mouse over the icon but it doesn't give a pop up box anymore. Don't you just hate it when an error is not consistant.
  18. I have found that if the map options button is clicked and the right hand select button is hit, then the cache icon can be double clicked to get a pop up box and subsequent full information. The scrolling 'hand' does not appear but scrolling can take place by dragging the arrow instead. The situation is not quite right but is at least workable now. Is that on a Magellan or Garmin? Ah - I think you mean on the "view larger map" link on a cache page. No, there doesn't seem to be any caches showing. Others seem to have the same problem. I think that there may be two problems with the maps. The link refers to people who cannot see caches on the maps. I have always seen the caches but cannot click on them to get the pop up box as mentioned above. People seem to be able to see the caches now but I still cannot click on them. 19. Thanks Paul. The 'south east(ish)' bit is all I need to know for time planning purposes.
  20. I see that the marathon is mentioned as a "little way from Oxford". I'm not trying to get a jump on FTFs but would like to know roughly which direction from Oxford the series will be. The reason for asking is that on the day time will be tight and I will be coming from the Gloucestershire area. If it is someway to the east of Oxford, this will mean an even earlier start than anticipated but if it is to the west I could have a lie in (until about 5am)!!

  22. The caches are showing and always have been BUT recently I have not been able to click on them to get the pop up box and then the cache page. Since I decide where to cache by looking at the map first this is really annoying.
  23. Many things but will I be late for my funeral if I'm out caching - probably. On the other hand, this cache doesn't leave much leeway for being late for - GC3D6DX.
  24. Nope - I've done quite a few from Pendragon, my Exmoor - even verging on night caching on him as it got dark while I was searching in Dalkeith Park where I used to keep him (fortunately he's used to doing that circuit in the dark!) Since he moved locations we've done a few on the Pentland hills and hope to do more. He's not very helpful for the final search so I tend to leave him tied to the nearest tree or tethered by the mouth when there's grass! I think my favourite with him so far was Capelaw Hill in the Pentlands where when I finally found the cache and looked back for the pony he was a pretty small figure in the distance, hardly moved from where I left him thanks to an abundance of grass! Here's him with one of the Dalkeith Park caches But on the subject of petrol, no I don't think he's cheaper!!! And they tend to complain if you put him in the carpark at work!!!!!!!!!!! That reminds me of two people I know who went on a tour in South America and were on a train journey when the guide pointed out the biggest corned beef plant in the world. The fields surrounding the plant were packed with horses and the tourists thought that they had eaten horse in the corned beef they had purchased in the supermarkets back home until the guide explained that the fields around were really the 'car park' as most employees arrived at work on horseback.
  25. Just had a head scratching afternoon. I had noted a few days ago a cache nearby which would fill in one of my 18 empty squares on my D/T grid. I thought it odd at the time that this 'hole' was there but dismissed it. Today, I looked at my paper D/T grid and noted that I had found one of this D/T rating but there were still 18 missing. So, I thought that one cache had been changed and it had another D/T rating filled in so I still had 63 done. Having investigated, I find that I have gained one and lost one but there are two caches involved. Since the new 'hole' can be filled in with a cache close by, thus not too much expense in travelling, I suppose I have gained overall (if I can find it) but it is still a nuisance when the ratings change. I must be really unlucky to have 2 change on me. I have looked in the logs involved but cannot see a note which would give the date of the change.
