  1. The Swimmers Cache is like that. I watch the posts on it. Looked like a fun one. Alan
  2. The RCGDS web site has a good history article. History of Geocaching
  3. I wouldn't do it. I just don't feel good about being around someones home. And there are those caches in parks that are up against peoples back yard fences. You get the barking dogs and people asking what you are up to. When placing, I try to consider how I would feel if it was my back yard.
  4. The city of Davis Ca. built a frog tunnel in 1995. Actually, I think it's a toad tunnel.
  5. We'll have to get together at the dinner and go over the process. The mail list is actually very easy to use. Alan
  6. I'm tempted to say, "Long enough to share a smoke and chat a little while?" But that might not be appropriate.
  7. Very nice search tool. I tried the same process as Ron with the names. Mine worked, tried Rons and mine came up again.
  8. The Sacramento area is lucky to have a bunch of great cachers. As far as local legends, three come to mind, and each are very nice people. Kimbo placed the first caches in the area and is still very active. MikieP has been at it for a while, finds a lot and places great hides. Last we have Jeo. I think he has the most local finds and he places the most evil hides. All of them are well made and very creative.
  9. That cache machine looks so real... If I found it, I might have the urge to deposit my welfare check in it.
  10. It's already been mentioned, but I like the decon containers. They stay dry if the o-ring stays in the lid. The strap and clip work well to tie a line on or hang them on something.
  11. Looks like we have a bunch of new cachers in Sac. They've been busy. Good to see some new caches in the south area. I've found a few and they are creative. The Sacramento forums have been quiet lately. Mail lists are great for the group, but they don't do much for encouraging the new folks to join in with questions and discussion.
  12. My son and I were included with some other local cachers on a TV news segment. The reporter did a great job explaining the basics and presented it as a good family hobby. We had fun doing it. The segements were taped in November and broadcast on Dec 11. You can view them at the RCGDS.net web site. There are two segments, both are different.
  13. I use a hot glue gun with glue sticks. Bought it at a crafts store. Haven't had one fall off yet.
  14. Where's the filthy restroom Michael Jackson claims you lock him in for 45 minutes?
  15. Oh..man.... Now that wasn't very nice....
  16. Hi Jim, I'm not aware of any clubs in the Vacaville area. Napa might? Sacramento has an active group at RCGDS.net I do know that there are some creative cachers and caches in your area. Have fun! Alan
  17. There are some new cache hunters in the Sacramento area too. Looks like Santa gave GPS's to some of the good kids! Alan
  18. In case you missed the broadcast or are not in the local area, links to download the TV segments have been posted on the RCGDS web site. RCGDS There are also some new stills in the members gallery. Enjoy!
  19. Eric and I tagged along for a little while. It was fun to watch them in action. I posted a few photos on the RCGDS web site, in the members gallery. They aren't great photos, but I'm not a pro. If I can burn it onto a CD, I'll send you one for Xmas! Alan
  20. For those of you in the KOVR 13 viewing area. John Iander did a segment with some of the RCGDS people. I am told it is sheduled to air on Dec 11 during the 6pm and 10pm news. The 10pm clip may be longer than the early version. Enjoy!
  21. I agree. It is also easier on the scuba divers if they can stay underwater with the cache. If you create one that needs to stay dry, the person would have to bring it to the surface and try to keep it dry. That then makes it hard to return it to the correct location. Here are links to a couple of underwater caches. There are more... King Kahekili (Hawaii) The Swimmer's Cache (California)
  22. Hi Al! That is what I looked like when I found it! You took a great picture. We have been doing a few dives, but not nearly enough. I always want to do more. When you get your instructors cert., will you give me a good deal on my AOW? Maybe have class in Maui! Give M.M. a hug for us!
  23. Do it! If you put one out there, I'll go for it. I've thought about placing one out off the San Carlos beach area, but I'm not close enough to properly maintain it. The King Kahekili cache in Maui is a great underwater cache.
  24. We have three kayaks that have been used to find caches. A tandem, sit on top, Malibu 2. A tandem inflatable, and an old one person yak. I have also used scuba to find an underwater cache in Maui. That was fun.
  25. We have two of the yellow etrex (and a Sportrak Pro). They are priced right and work great. I found them to be very easy to load by hand. You can always buy a cable later. If you need a map. print it off the web page before you head out. I say go for it.
