  2. ok ill give this a shot. We have a bunch of differnt GPS at work, ones bound to have this. thanks
  3. Ok I don’t know if I am in the right forum, but I was hoping you could help. My organization has me trying to find our property markers that where installed around 1940. They are mostly brass cap things. I can post a picture if you would like. I was given a long list of coordinates help me find them, The only problem is the coordinates I have are in What looks like UTM. so just assumed I could use one of those free online translators, like http://jeeep.com/details/coord/. only when I do that it puts me about 7 degrees above the equator, and I’m in Oregon...... I know I'm in zone 10, so the only other thing I can figure is that northing/easting zeros aren’t the normal ones. help me, im clueless. I’m going to be out in the woods with a metal detector forever. thanks -sapper-
  4. Ok I know this has nothing to do with gps. Anyway I dropped my Kyocera slider cell phone in a river and now it doesn't work. So I have two batteries, (one of them was in the water but the us cellular people say it should still work) wall charger, and a car charger. If anyone wants them they can have them for the cost of shipping. I hate throwing stuff away. -sapper-
  5. Well I can't say I have ever used the garmin Garmin Rino, but I have used the FRS a lot. You’re right, they are limited by range but I think they are still an excellent tool. I would say u can get 500 meters of clear communication is moderate woods. Obviously not the “fix all” to losing your partners, but have u ever tried to have a conversation at half a kilometer? Also they work great in cars (or military convoys)
  6. Thanks very much embra. Still could not get the Magellan program to take multiple files but Gsak has given me a way to work around that. 1 make the file with GSAK 2 use the magellan to upload the file to my explorist(guess there is some issue with the explorist and GSAK, found out about that in the FAQs). For now I have to do an extra step but it sure beats the hell out of putting them manually. Thanks again
  7. First off pretty new to the geocache thing, but I like it. Gives me a great excuse to go ride my back or walk around on the beach. Anyway I have been using the Magellan geocache manger (came with explorist 400), sometimes I can drag and drop two downloaded .loc files other times it only lets me put one file in. It does not seem to matter how large the file is. Just wondering if anyone knows what’s going on or what I am doing wrong. Thanks
  8. thanks for the help. i called Tec support, they told me to take it back to the store. i did and now i have one that works. thanks agian
  9. "1. Does your PC require drivers for your GPS and if so have you installed them?" i cant find anything on needing drivers.... "4. Are you using a 'known good' USB cable? i.e. does the cable work with other USB stuff?" its the cable that comes with the gps. i dont have antoher gps to test it on.
  10. When I connect my explorist 400 to my pc it says “USB devices has malfunctioned…windows does not recognize it” I have read through the manual on the proper way to connect it, read the support on Magellans web site, and I have reading through the post here. But I am so lost right now. So I would love any help right now.
  11. I am really glad u all posted on this topic, I almost passed up a good deal on exlporist 400 ($145). I was looking to buy a gps but had ruled out the explorist because of the battery pack. A gps that needs a power source seems useless to me. Thanks again
  12. I've been searching through the geocache list on this sight and most caches seem to be in very public and easy to accesses places. so my question is .... is there a list of Geocaches in the outdoors (like the kind of outdoors you have to hike/pack too). I know there is bound to be a lot of problems with wilderness caches, but i can hope. thanks
