  1. 1. Go to your trackable's page on geocaching.com. 2. Click to 'Add a Log Entry'. 3. Type of Log = 'retrieve' from the cache. 4. Enter the tracking number and a comment, then submit. Note: The status of the cache is not important. If you need more help, your reviewer from Luxemburg might explain in your native language. Good luck . Helen
  2. Pretty! I have a Wildflowers of BC book I can look it up in later if nobody else can identify it before then. What sort of environment was it in? Lakeside (marshy) or meadow or rocky?

    WestCan 3

Whose requirement is that? The original proposal for funds from Alberta Treasury and Western Economic Development was based on 'western rural economic development', (hence the Badlands) and using geocaching as a tool to bring people to a western province's rural region. This event is about the west and it's about rural so it would no more be held in Regina than in Ontario. The legacy aspect was also key in their proposal - it had to continue and benefit other rural regions. Our WestCan2 proposal outlined the benefits to the rural Cowichan Valley region. We set up partnerships with the local geocachers, BC Parks, Cowichan Tourism, the Cowichan Valley Regional District and the local media before we put in our proposal for WestCan2. We also booked a venue to hold Island Spirit 2012 even if we weren't chosen to be the next WestCan. I suppose the locals didn't know that, but Island Spirit was happening anyways, it was the WestCan2 designation that was confirmed later. Our Island Spirt team was in place long before the bid went in (we submitted our bid back in April 2011 I believe). The 'Logbook' banner: Here is the schedule of events we lined up: Schedule . Make sure and check the links.

    WestCan 3

WestCan 1 had somewhere in the region of 700 people, WestCan 2 had somewhere between 700 and 900 people in attendance. The idea behind the series is that they support rural economic development, so hosting in an urban centre likely wouldn't fly. A proposal that outlines finances, management team/structure, the venue, benefit to the region and the primary sponsors is required if someone is contemplating hosting #3, but it takes a good year to organize one of these, so unlikely that anyone could pull it off for 2013 at this point in time - but it would be great to see one come together for 2014 in Saskatchewan or Manitoba.
  6. Chris (Mr Landsharkz) has the iPhone and I (Mrs Landsharkz) have the Android. We both use the geocaching.com app. They are both very good, good maps, good interface. I think we had an instance when something I did like drop a trackable or add a photo was more 'intuitive' but generally we have nothing to report that should sway you either way. Now if you were asking which phone to get, then we'd have a different opinion!! Android all the way!
  7. Hello Bzzliteyr, we visited your cache in Feb 2006 (chipped it out of the ice no less!) and we recommend it to everyone going to Ottawa! I'll help spread the word for you .
  8. Something new and shiny from the Hound - you've got our interest!
  9. I have been using OpenStreetMaps on my Garmin GPS. http://www.openstreetmap.org/ Type Montreal, Quebec into the search box on the left sidebar, then click the link in ''GeoNames' to see the sort of detail you'll get. They are free .
  10. Lastly, you could direct the geocoin owner to this thread to help them come to terms with the potential loss of their coin . Sometimes they do turn up years later (once in a military boot in a locker on a ship!), but not always.
  11. It might be a coincidence, but we have seen a distinct increase in geocoins going missing since the onset of dedicated 'app caching'. Groundspeak gives the coordinates of our caches to folks who solely cache with apps without the necessity of having to create an account on geocaching.com. If I go to geocaching.com and don't log in, I don't see coordinates. If someone downloads the app and looks for nearby caches they get everything except Premium Member caches. Some 'app cachers' create geocaching.com accounts, learn a bit more about the game and integrate themselves in the global caching community (attend events for example)... but many don't. Not all 'app cachers' play the same game we play because they don't have the same rules presented to them. At least folks who create an account have the resources at their fingertips and can see a tab at the top for trackables so they know it's there to read about if they want. App cachers can be pretty clueless and innocently do things geocaching (and with trackables) that the folks with geocaching.com accounts and Groundspeak resources don't. They are certainly not the sole problem occurring to trackables, but I suspect they are a good part of it. In all honesty, when we activate a geocoin and set it free, I consider it 'kissed goodbye' and out there for other people's enjoyment until it goes missing. We have sent out a large quantity of coins and I never look at our trackables list to see how many are missing. I prefer to enjoy the logs from the ones still travelling and the photos from their adventures.
  12. I am using a Mac with Snow Leopard and I'll have to check about the add ons because it was set up my the 'techy dude'. Is there an add on that competes or something like that?
  13. Are there known issues between Geocaching.com and Chrome? I saw an old thread but it was closed, so I'm asking this fresh and new. First issue: I can view a cache listing, but when I click 'Log Your Visit' the next screen loads without any of the boxes to fill in. There is just a banner ad and the Groundspeak page header stuff. The buttons/links for 'Watch', 'Bookmark' and 'Ignore' all work, but I have to switch to Safari to use 'Log Your Visit'. Secondly, when I am using Chrome and plug in the GPS to use 'Send to GPS' I get this message: "Your browser is not supported to use the Garmin Communicator Plug-In". Is this part and parcel with the above issue or a new second issue that Chrome has with Garmin? Thanks much, Helen (Mrs Landsharkz)
  14. This year's Canada Micro is our tribute coin to the Calgary Stampedes' 100th anniversary! On the front, Beaver Dude is trying his luck at bull-riding, the traditional sport of the Calgary Stampede. The reverse has a western feel with the CM for Canada Micro branded above the name. Yee haw! Specs: 25mm x 2.0mm, 4+9 IHE colours, two-tone black nickel and polished nickel. This micro is trackable on geocaching.com with a custom icon. Yeehaw!! Pricing is unchanged from last year. They are sold singly ($7.25 CAD), or in 5 or 10 packs ($34.99 and $64.99 CAD). You can also pick these up this summer from our booth at Island Spirit 2012!

  16. Yikes! That's the sort of thing you see in horror movies . GG, do you have any of your cool Aussie coins left to bring to the Island Spirit event this summer? A&T are once again organizing the geocoin event for Saturday evening. We are moving hopefully this spring and when we unpack, we may actually find those coins I need to give you! LOL! Chris is threatening to build a wall display for all the coins and samples that we've made, bought, traded or been gifted. This could end up being a massive permanent coin display here at LSHQ.
  17. Would you please provide a direct link to your public bookmark list because I can't find it! . I'd like to add it to the Island Spirit 2012 FB page and perhaps include it in an upcoming blog post.
  18. 'Peace'ful snowy scene taken by Chris while we were completing Geocaching Challenges on Feb 28th, 2012. This is a very edited pic - Chris removed protestors, a couple of vehicles and corrected the angle. The snow is coming down around us hence the rather 'white' look to it all.
  19. Sorry for the late reply... We are also going to be in Ottawa this spring. Last time we were there there was a 'Regular' size cache in the parking area below the Royal Canadian Mint that fit TB's. Is it gone? There are monthly events in Ottawa and if you can time your visit, you could do a 'hand off' at the event to save you trying to find a proper size cache for the TB. Time it when we are there and we'll bring it back to BC!
  20. Do you think it looks like a variety of Mertensia?
  21. Dear Mystery Noel Coin Sender, Thank you so much!!! What a joy and a treat to be the recipient of one of these fun coins. It was amazing how fast my brain processed what I had in my hands. First I saw the package and KNEW it was a mystery package - but what?! Then I opened it and saw the No-L and thought OMG, it's a No Landsharkz coin! LOL! Then my son and daughter (teens) saw it and said No Mom, it's No-Losers! Then I opened my mouth and said "I wonder what No-L is all about"... as soon as I heard myself say it, I grinned from ear to ear at the play on words. How brilliant!! Thank you once again and congrats to the folks who got to say that they got the 'First No-L' coin! Helen (for Chris and Helen - Landsharkz)
  22. Chris and Helen (LANDSHARKZ) are proud to present the 4th Annual Christmas Snow Globe Geocoin. This trackable geocoin with a custom icon is black nickel/polished nickel both sides. The coin is 2" (50mm) tall and 42mm wide. The magical combination of glittery snow in the clear epoxy makes this snow globe look like it's just been gently shaken! The base is a combination of polished filigree and recessed black nickel to look like an old Victorian snow globe base. The front features a heavenly angel. The back of this coin expresses a fond Christmas sentiment: 'Through a looking glass of a thousand stars, angels watch over us and bless us all.' Have a wonderful Christmas Here is a link to the coin sale page: Snow Globe Geocoin - Christmas 2011 There is also a matching non-trackable ornament: Snow Globe ORNAMENT - Christmas 2011 GEOCOINS ARE $10.50 CAD Orders are shipping daily!
  23. A good waterproof micro container that has made its way north of the border is the 'soda tube' cache. These are pop bottles before they're expanded. They are smooth enough for a cache ID sticker and long enough to hold a geo-stick/pencil, which the match containers aren't. They also don't require an o-ring.
  24. We occasionally leave unactivated coins in caches. We leave them in the factory stapled plastic pouch with a sticker with the activation code and another sticker that says 'With Complements of Landsharkz'. Is this clear enough that it's an unactivated trackable do you think?
  25. Those were my words.. ha ha! No copy - pasting here! We do a good deal of government work and we're hoping to tap into those connections to entice some interesting sponsors who, like us, are passionate about supporting rural economic development in Western Canada (specifically the Cowichan Valley this time). At the moment we are still working on the Vendor and Sponsor packages. Once we get them out, it could be weeks or months before we have commitments coming in, or maybe we'll be surprised and have sponsors banging down our door . If you would like to sponsor this event, or be a vendor, please send your request for a package to: info@island-spirit.ca Thank you, Helen
