  1. We will have a Christmas Snow Globe coin and tag set next week.
  2. This trackable geocoin features Mr and Mrs Landsharkz as ZOMBIESHARKZ! The 42mm x 3.0mm coin is plated in antique silver and painted with a combination of translucent and solid colours. ZOMBIESHARKZ coin says HAPPY HALLOWEEN on one side and ZOMBIESHARKZ on the other. Of course it's trackable at geocaching.com with a custom ZOMBIESHARKZ icon! There is a matching non-trackable coin that is our October Gift With Purchase. Details available on our homepage! ZOMBIESHARKZ - HAPPY HALLOWEEN GEOCOIN!
  3. We have some satellite event plans in the works and when they're confirmed they'll be posted here. These will be listed geocaching.com events happening in the days leading up to 3IEE and on the day following. Ideas we're working on are guided shoreline exploration, fossil walks, canyon exploration, estuary walks, etc., that visit EarthCache sites. These EC sites could be as far as 60 mins either direction of the Mega location to give people a variety of options to explore the region.
  4. 3IEE is happening on a really big island on Canada's west coast. There are many ways to get to Vancouver Island and a wide array of places to stay. I'll list a few to give you an idea of how easy and accessible this island actually is. Ferries: BC Ferries and Washington State Ferries. We're 90 minutes by ferry from Port Angeles, WA or Tsawwassen, BC (mainland Canada). Look at both ferry company websites and perhaps consider a circle tour to see both routes. It's also about 2 1/2 hours from Anacortes, WA to Sidney, BC, but it can be much longer if you take the 'island by island' route. Commercial Float Planes - many Commercial Airlines - many The body of water separating Vancouver Island from the rest of Canada and the US is fondly called 'the pond'. Grab your smartphone and find the app called 'Crossing The Pond'. It's an amazingly efficient and artistic app that shows you the variety of options to 'cross the pond'... including schedules. It's available for iPhone and Android. You can find links on our 'Getting Here' webpage. Here's the Tourism Cowichan website which lists all sorts of local accommodation options: Tourism Cowichan website. There's a variety of campgrounds nearby, as well as hotels, motels, B&B's and vacation rentals. You'll find the vacation rentals on sites like VRBO. Please post questions here and we'll do our best to help your vacation planning go smoothly!
  5. The 3rd International EarthCache Event (3IEE) was announced at the 2IEE in Utah....and it is listed on geocaching.com. It's International in every way... because 3IEE is going to be in CANADA! Here is link: GC4JD1B Go and register your intent to participate and we look forward to welcoming you to Duncan, BC, Canada in the Cowichan Valley!
  6. deleted post - I found my answer on your very informative website
  7. There's a box you ticked that says you've read the guidelines. What part didn't you get? They are updated regularly, but this rule has been in place for at least 5 years! Please read them from top to bottom before you hide any more geocaches.
  8. Are the two provinces in question PEI and ON? We're going to PEI tomorrow and will be caching with some of the locals. Let me see what I can do to get PEI up and running again. I'll take a stocked cache with me as a bribe. .
  9. There's nothing stopping folks in the two locations that are archived from listing new GWNGeoTour caches and having the series complete again. Look and see who's active in those areas and see if you can find folks to resurrect them.
  10. There's usually a good size contingent from BC and especially Vancouver Island. I think we're going, but we're not deciding for sure just now.
  11. Some companies that sell coins package them with coin cards that help to educate finders (especially newbies) and keep travellers moving. This is what's printed on a coin card accompanying a coin that is on my desk... The company's logo, then the following text: " This geocoin belongs to: _______________ Please keep this coin moving! Track on geocaching.com" If you buy coins from companies that don't have this sort of message on their coin card, consider writing a note and putting it in the PVC pouch with the coin to alert finders that it has an owner and is supposed to keep moving.
  12. Call me a BAD MAN if you'd like, but i've actually drilled a hole in a coin that i retrieved. I'm betting that the coin owner would prefer that their coin would continue to travel rather than being stolen, so my argument was that i provided the coin owner a service by making their coin less attractive to thieves. I'm betting that the coin owner was unaware of this practice, or they would have done it themselves. The way you've worded this post makes it sound like you haven't contacted the owner of the trackable to ask if they agree with your way of thinking and if they'd like you to drill their coin to devalue it or deface it. If you have drilled a hole in a coin that you've retrieved from a cache (and that coin wasn't yours) and you didn't specifically ask the coin owner permission, then you are mutilating their traveller NOT providing a 'service'. There's some pretty shady stuff that goes on in the world that people justify by using words like 'service' and 'favour' and in reality its the dead opposite. Make note EXMAN, you're not doing us any favours by drilling the coins we have travelling and I'd like to specifically ask you to respect that if you move a LANDSHARKZ owned trackable, we want our coins to stay in the same condition as when we released them. You can give it a cleaning, freshen up the coin pvc pouch, replace the 'Goals and Mission'... but please keep your power tools away from it. We have hundreds of travellers and it's a risk we're willing to take to add to the enjoyment of the game. If we lose 10%, we're ok with that. We give energy to the 90% that are out there doing their job bring smiles to the people who find them. /Helen (Mrs Landsharkz)
  13. Landsharkz 2013 personal coin embodies geocaching the way we like it best! Terrain 5 water and terrain 5 land! One side features an underwater scene where Landsharkz are headed out in their jeep to find some deep sea caches. On the other side Landsharkz are taking their jeep out to do some 4x4 back country geocaching. "Happiness is a 4x4 and a full tank of gas" is quote by friends in Utah and BC that sure comes to mind. This 45mm coin is trackable with a custom icon. We are selling them for $10.99. Coin Sale Page
  14. Antique Silver Little Rhody - This little 3D die cast crab is trackable at geocaching.com with a custom icon. We designed this micro coin for a client in Rhode Island and we have a few in our store because we loved the design so much! It's the perfect size to put in a small cache container, but we only have a limited number of these cute crabs! it is approximately 25mm X 18mm, which is about the size of a quarter. Price is $7.99 CAD. Coin Sale Page
  15. We have a non-trackable 'siggy tag' that we leave in caches and trade in person and we JUST received our new trackable personal 2013 geocoin. One of our darling son's wrote off our Jeep last fall and this coin is a sort of tribute to the amazing adventures we had geocaching in our Jeep... Utah, Oregon coast (beach highways!), WA, ID, AB, BC... driving through barely passable rivers and over mountains and on roads that really weren't roads any more. All the years we geocached in our Jeep we never made our own Jeep coin... so we finally did, after we parted ways. Kinda like telling someone you love them... at their funeral . Well maybe not that bad, but you get the idea. It's a great new personal and we were long overdue .
  16. A funny Cache May-ten-ance story... A couple of weeks ago, we went out and did annual spring time cache maintenance on two of our night caches that are in the same park. We figured we'd be done in an hour and would have time to go home, eat, shower and change before going to our daughter's high school musical theatre performance... NOT! Once we'd started, we had to finish! Plus we knew that there was a couple of groups heading over to try them later that night if we got them fixed up. Well this winter had been harder on these two caches than normal...we walked both routes and removed ivy that had grown over some FireTacks, wiped some off that had 'mildew' on them, replaced some FireTacks that had gone astray, totally replaced 'hint' stages and spruced up the final cache containers with fresh swag and logbooks. We didn't have enough paper towels and so Chris wiped out a musty damp cache container with the bottom of his t-shirt (at this point thinking he'd have time to go home and change before the theatre). 2 1/2 hours later we ran for the vehicle and made haste for the high school while I posted Owner Maintenance logs on my Droid with the window open because of a funky smell in the car that we determined was coming from the bottom of Chris' t-shirt We grabbed a couple of trays of sushi (along with flowers for our performing star) from the grocery store and hid in the back row, a bit out of breath and not quite looking (or smelling) like the rest of the proud parents in the audience!
  17. kini_ont, you can count on us! We'll send you some of our new coins, including our new personal that's almost ready
  18. Here is the direct link: http://www.geocaching.com/track/activate.aspx This is used to retrieve a tracking code for most all trackables. There are a few exceptions, but 'Log My Dog' isn't one of them . Helen
  19. Hi sparkefingers, it sounds like you're in the preliminary 'should I/shouldn't I' stage. You'll find that there are a few opinions of how to proceed. What's easiest and most stress free is to doodle/sketch your design and then send it to a couple of North American coin design/production companies to get an opinion on if it will work in metal/paint/plating. If a coin company tells you that you're pushing any boundaries that might cause a production problem, either do a bit of a redesign or expect your coin to take additional time in production of both the art and the finished product. In summary, be realistic and listen to the experts. Don't ask for the sun, moon and the ISS and then say "I need it in 6 weeks" . It doesn't have to be stressful. If you know that you're easily stressed, take the time to find a company where you can sense that they're acting in your best interests. If you are advised that the coin design won't work then please be open to suggestion on how to edit it, so that it will work. This will save everyone lots of time and stress. Companies get stressed too, because they really want you to be a happy customer who shouts their name from the rooftops. Keep in mind that they may have 30 or 40 coins on the go at one time, not just yours. If they are good, you'll feel like they are only working on your coin, but they know otherwise. You need to explicitly trust the company you choose, so if you're 'not feeling the love', then listen to your instincts and move on to another company. There's lots of good companies, but you need to find the one that feels right for you. Coins 'Breaking the bank' is different things to different people. You'd know your bank account's breaking point for this expenditure and your neighbour would think differently if asked the same question. Some companies will ask for a deposit and invoice the balance upon delivery, others will want you to finance the entire thing as it goes along. Some companies will want you to bring almost die-ready art and you take full responsibility for any design edits/changes and die art approvals. Other companies are a 'one-stop-shop' where you bring sketches, they send you a selection of professionally designed suggested versions, you choose a version, request edits, confirm you're satisfied and then they take care of all interaction with the factory, die art edits, etc while you wait for your coins to arrive and pay the bill from them. They will send you die art to check over and confirm - but by that point it's been edited many times and gone back and forth to the factory many times and they're confident that it's good to go, so your 'OK' is usually just a final check and confirmation. For there to be a spelling mistake on the finished coins and they say that 'YOU missed it' is absolutely unacceptable. If you want to use a foreign language with accents/symbols... then definitely check your spelling carefully, but checking art for spelling and confirming irregular use of the English language should be part of their edit process. Lastly, ask the company for references from some of their recent coin customers. Sure you can ask here too, but there are thousands of coins that get made that never see the light of day on the geocoin forums. Good luck with your endeavour!
  20. Thanks for visiting the Island - it was lovely to meet you. I wish we could have attended the Easter Event but I had a gardening workshop at the exact same time in Sooke. Make sure and come back soon!

I have asked questions about the GeoPoker Run component of the event and this will hopefully clarify how it's going to work. At the main launch event on the 29th of June, there will be no poker games but there will be all sorts of other geocaching related activities. You will receive information about how to participate in the Poker Run component of the event and you can start right away if you want, or chip away at it over the next 8 days. There will be bags for everyone who pays to register at the full price level and in it there will be a really awesome trackable geocoin along with other goodies. The kids who register at a paid level will receive a kids' goodie bag with cool kid stuff. A minimum of 100 new caches are being hidden in Gold Country which will be much like the previous two launches of ~72 caches in 2009 and again in 2012. There were be 24 additional locations to stop and choose a card to make up your poker hand. There is money as well as sponsored prizes for the wrap up on the 7th. If I understand correctly, if you're only able to attend the a few days, you can give your hand to a friend to take to the wrap up on the 7th. There's a procedure to know who's cards are who's right from when you draw them. Early Bird registration is $12 'till May 31. After May 31 the price is $17. Under 19 is $5. You can see the cool coins on this Registration PDF. Plus you can print it off, fill it in and send it off this weekend! Registration Form
  23. We have just received shipment of the Canada Micro 2013 geocoins and we're excited to share them with you! This year's Canada Micro is a tribute to the discontinued Canadian Penny. You can find it for sale here at Landsharkz.ca where we have it for sale singly, in 5 packs or in 10 packs. This coin is trackable on geocaching.com with a custom penny icon. As an example, The Island Spirit event had been in the works for a year before our bid for WestCan was approved. We had the committee, parks departments and tourism groups on side, the venue booked, $$$ commitments in place and then we placed our bid for WestCan because we felt that Island Spirit met the criteria. There was no turning back if we'd been turned down, the Island Spirit event was going forth anyways but the designation gave it oooomph! Yes, the WestCan designation can be added before or after an event is published. Mrs GeoMeerkats must have been a fly on the wall . Gold Country has met the criteria and although it would have been wonderful to announce a WestCan last fall, it took a while for groups to come forward and then we had a rush of them... which is why we are at the discussion table for 2015 also. We could have gone without a WestCan this year, but we chose not to. Gold Country is so far into planning stages that we felt with support from the geocaching community in Western Canada we could put it over the top. They already expect attendance close to Mega and now they are more than confident. Please share the word, encourage folks to visit Gold Country and to take part in all the activities that are planned. WestCan4 will be announced at the event in Merritt, BC!
