  1. AFAIK your ok with mentioning a pub name in an event listing as long as it is not overly repeted.
  2. I think we need to contact the BBC and get them to set up a talent contest with John Barrowman involved somehow.
  3. I was not proposing that no review was to take place just that some reviewers may want to relax their inspection criteria with cachers that they trust to place caches within the guidelines. What value would be gained by making a cacher that has placed a lot of caches all within guidelines have to wait perhaps several days before their cache is published? (I don't put myself in that category) By filtering out the caches that are most likely 99.9% within the guidelines it gives the reviewer a bit more time to spend working with cachers who need help with meeting / understanding the guidelines. What I am assuming is that some reviewers may already be doing this (and why not) when they see a cache / event that has been sent from a trusted cacher they publish with only a minimum review. (so why do it at all) Just some food for thought. Enjoy the meal.
  4. Hazel I think it would be unfair for them to archive your event that has been published, this even was approved so therefore should stand as is, if they would like you to change the content of your event page it would be permissible for them to request that you make changes and work with you should you require assistance in doing that. Hopefully what is fair is as important to Groundspeak as it is for the local reviewers. Lee
  5. I was wondering why their is a requirement for ALL caches to be reviewed prior to publishing, from a QA point of view I usualy find that 100% inspection does not always guarantee good service. Where I work whey assign suppliers with a grading and then the inspection critera is decided depending on the grading, sa a A1 supplier has very little inspection while a C supplier may be subjected to 100% dimensional check. Why not work the same for placers of caches, so that an unproven cache setter will need to have their cache approved while a cacher that has proven that they are capable of setting caches within the guidlines has their caches auto publish, the reviewers could choose to change the ranking of the cachers appropriatly depending on how much help they feel their placer requires. In some respects this may be alrady happening informaly by some reviewer, and they may already be deciding how much time they need to spend reviwing a users cache. Some housekeeping will probably be required, but probably just as much as they are doing at the moment. Hope this is of some help. Lee
  6. there are more caching sites that geocaching.com however I dont think I would be wrong in saying that GC has the most caches in the UK and you can just about guaranee that you will find a lot of caches in your area. Unrelated to recent events I took a look to see what else was available, the site I found has caches in the UK but the closest one to me is 98 miles away, I may place one but not sure yet. GC has pretty much the monopoly on caches, not their fault they are good at what they do, but we should all be aware that their are alternatives, or we can make our own alternatives. After all we could set up our own web pages and post the co-ords for our caches on it but we would not get many visitors to it unless we have a central point of contact... that point of contact is the most important link... this is the real value of geocaching.com, caching would be nothing without the cachers.
  7. I would agree but would ammend it slightly. Any paid up premium member, who asks a civil question should be given a civil answer, that's only manners! and manners maketh the man!!............Is an explanation that difficult ? Our £15 a per month only pays for so much, we cant expect that because we put our hands in our pockets we should be treated any differently, consider if you went into a shop and asked a question and they refused to answer because you was not yet a paying customer. It would be good business practice to answer all your customers queries; however it may be slightly unfair to expect them to respond directly to every forum post, also our idea of a timely response and theirs may differ, If they are discussing this before they respond it may be an idea for them to just let us know that they take our concerns seriously and that they plan to respond within X number of days.
  8. Sorry to see you both leave, on my one cache I have placed it was published within the hour. Good luck with future endevours.
  9. If their was a patron saint of Cachers? who would it be?
  10. Why should it have anything to do with caching?... it is to do with cachers
  11. Sugest that you spend a weekend at a swanky hotel in Harrogate for his Birthday treat When I first noticed the Mega event, I mentioned it to my other half, expecting her to say that it wouldnt be a good idea, but I got quite the opposite the very next day she was calling the hotel and booking a room for us, for the weekend plus an extra day.
  12. My Wife thinks its great, she occasionaly comes out and caches with me usually if the weathers good. But the pay off for her is as a crafter she likes to visit craft shops and take part in craft clubs and training, she sees one thats miles from home and shes says "I wonder if theirs many caches over in xxxxx" knowing that I will be more than happy to drive over and spend the day caching the area while she is at a craft shop.
  13. What are you doing to celibrate today? I'm planning on going down the pub and enjoying it with my friends, I may nip and do a local cache before I do
  14. Thanks for all putting me right on that one, will keep an eye on the cache to see if anything comes of it, ringing the bell to gain access is a bit strange... sounds like fun. Good luck with the adoption.
  15. What a pointless post! I managed to see the point, but thought it was pointless me posting that I had... ummm... I just did didnt I.
  16. Superb, I was thinking of doing this one, but with no reason to use the toll road I thought it a little silly to do.
  17. Just had a look... It's doable via a FILTER (CTRL-F) and then JEEP in the name of the TB. J Yes, I did it via a filter, so that the search was relevent to NickPick I looked up their first cache they found and created a PQ centered at that location, and then used that GC as the cetral point for the search. I was quite suprised that it was so easy to search for TB's / Coins in this way, I may go and do some Jeep hunts myself, I'm yet to get one, but I have seen a 4x4 coin.
  18. Just had a thought, caches placed at churches for the purpose of promoting visitors could be considered to be a commercial cache.
  19. You can do this type of search on GSAK. This is the list of caches that have bugs/coins with Jeep in the title, centered on your first cache found. Sorry the list is a bit unwieldy but just look at the first bit. Code > Name > Short name > Distance (miles)... 20. Why not use one page, and then when we get to the end the owner comes along and turns it over. I just thought the right hand pages were for right handed cachers and the left hand pages were for the lefties We need to get some books that have 1/4 of the pages only on one side.
  21. Why not use one page, and then when we get to the end the owner comes along and turns it over.
  22. Not sure how you would search for it on G:UK it may be possible on GSAK or similar software. I'll have a look later on, it may be that you can seach logs for jeep, that would give you any instances of jeep that have been entered. ie. Took Jeep TB TFTC etc...
  23. I started caching just before my daughter was born, the first cache we took my daughter on she was a few weeks old, as she has grown up she goes through stages of wanting to go treasure hunting or just wanting to hang out at the swings, she is now 2.1/2 and enjoys getting involved. It's great but you need to pick your targets, I usually pick ones that are a little bit away from town but wont involve a lot of walking we expect that she will want to sit on mine or mummy's shoulder for part of the way, but usually we find something on the ground for her to explore and then she forgets about being lazy dont bother with micros's go for something that will have swaps in... If I spot the cache I always wait and see if Vicky will spot it, unless its in the middle of a lot of nettles and brambles, always check the cache yourself before letting your little one loose on it, always make sure you have something to put in, make a rule I always say that she can have one piece of treasure and give her as long as she needs to choose. Another tip is, have a spare Tupperware box with some swaps in it in your bag, if you cant find the actual cache then hide it and let the little un find it and choose something from it, put it back then when you are off, say you have forgotten something and run back to retrieve it back. (obviously this only works if your caching with another adult) I wouldn't do it too many times as kids ain't stupid, it also does them good to be disappointed occasionally. Most of all it needs to be fun!!!
  24. Thanks, just what I was looking for. My thumbs was starting to hurt
  25. my 2 coins arrived today, gold and silver. excellent detail on both side, will look forward to tracking their progress, althogh the gold one is stopping with me for the moment, its going to travel with me for a while. Cheers Lee
