  1. I agree with this assessment. It could very well be listed on another site and purposely not listed with GC.com. It could also have been cross-listed to GC.com and has not yet been approved or was denied but it is active on another site. Simply removing it without knowing is a bad idea. He-he. When I saw this post, I thought I was on the wrong website. Yes, lots of excellent ideas here, including NiraD's that I never would have thought about, someone could have "thrown down" a replacement. I dunno, are there any previous finders with more than 5,000 Geocache finds? Just kidding, forget that. But we definitely need more information here, most notable which of your finds this happened at. This letterbox was found near Elder Bridge Treasure, GA.
  2. Could be a letterbox - check Atlasquest and LBNA. Was there a stamp in the box? Maybe it had a stamp but the stamp went missing. Yes there was a handcarved stamp. Also it didn't have anything to make known that it was an official geocache. So it could be listed somewhere else. I checked the two links and it wasn't listed. Definitely sounds like a letterbox. Nice to hear that there was a handcarved stamp in the box. Is the box still there and in good shape? It could be a Mystery letterbox. They are difficult to do a search for on the letterboxing databases. Also, some letterboxers don't post their clues on a database, instead they post on their own website or in their own blog, and a few letterboxes are WOM (word of mouth) only. Many letterboxes have no identifying marks on the outside of the container, but the logbook often has the name of the box and the owner's trailname. This letterbox was found in the vicinity of Elder Bridge Treasure, GA. I'm glad I posted this, I almost didn't for fear of sounding like the newbie I am.

  4. I was recently geocaching when I found a cache in an area where another cache was hidden. My geosense told me it was not the cache I was looking for. Upon speaking with the owner of the cache I found out I was right, I found a completely different cache. The problem is there is no listing for the cache I found. How do I find out what the cache is and how can I log it?
  5. This has all been very eye opening. As a newbie myself (35 finds to date) I've been thinking if hiding my own cache. I've seen the guidelines and intend on following them. As a show of respect for the geocaching community I wanted to be fully aware of the information available for hiding a cache so as not to cause any issues. I do think it is important for a newbie to know the guidelines because a poorly hidden cache can be discouraging to other newbies who can't find them. On the other hand, why would someone want to hide a cache when they've never seen searched, found, and seen one before?
