  1. Thanks to Cache Effect for an excellent job reviewing Alberta. Also to One Crazy Canadian for reviewing Saskatchewan/Manitoba. They are greatly appreciated. Oh, and I'm sure all the other reviewers keep up there caching habit as well. I don't know how they would find the time.
  2. I was thinking about trying to do it 'pure' as well. Way to go!
  3. I started off yesterday with good intentions. I had a location planned where I could get a trad, puzzle, EC, multi and letterbox. That would have also match my record for most icons in a day. By the time I got to the area, it was dusk so the ECs (there were two nearby) were out as I couldn't get good pictures. I spent two hours on the letterbox trying to decipher the clues and overcome the four foot drifts of snow. Same thing for the multi, I started down a dead end road that was cache rich but snowplow poor. I stopped at the first cache, a traditional, and wondered if I'd be able to get up the hill and carry on. Turns out I almost didn't, even after throwing the geomobile in 4WD. Eventually I caught a bit of traction and was able to back out using my mirrors and reverse lights to guide me. So, I ended up with a puzzle as my only option as I have just one Trad on Thanksgiving. I'm about to head out for an EC now which will get me on track for a relatively easy and accessible multi near my parent's on New Years Day. Merry Christmas everyone.
  4. I agree, I went to the ceremony this year then right after I found the local cache 'Remembrance' particularly because it was Remembrance Day (and I'm a govt. worker who had the day off ). That said, this year it happened to be 10-10-10 which worked out well numerically for several reasons. Neat date format, 10th anniversary of caching this year and my personal favourite, it seems like the perfect binary date. For the next attempt at 'most cachers logging', who says we're tied to any sort of date format. It could be July 17 or November 16 or whatever GS decides. Being an American company though, if they want to choose their own date format, that's up to them I guess.
  5. I've been on a few group caching hikes and it's loads of fun. This past summer our local group lined up bi-weekly hikes but every one of them fell on a weekend I had something else going on. We'll probably dod the same next summer.
  6. d'oh, I've yet to grab the cache but I know the area.
  7. Thanks, I thought it was cool too but completely accidental, there was a few of us convoying to Carnation for GW VIII and we happened to be going through that day. First time I've been outside Canada on Canada Day. I was actually thinking about doing the same thing in Alberta. We've seen a lot of challenge caches lately but this one would actually be attainable for me. Looks like I won't qualify until May though as I only have traditional caches for Thanksgiving and Victoria Day this year. Christmas Day is shaping up to be a hike for a letterbox. I'll probably be late for dinner on Boxing day at my Aunt's as I'll have to find a multi on the way to her farm. New Years day at my parents will be tough because the closest EC/virtual is about 50 km away. Thanks for this, I've had fun just planning my strategy.
  8. This is a bit of a throwback but I just read this thread for the first time. there are no Canadian Benchmarks that can be logged on GC, only ones recognized are the NGS Benchmarks Unless you are in Alberta then you can claim a find on the Brass Cap Cache, a grandfathered roaming virtual cache. Also, for those of us that do stumble across this and decide to have a look, the url for this cache is http://coord.info/GC24RB8. I didn't see it noted anywhere else. I don't like a lot of challenge caches, mainly because I don't think I'll ever complete them. However this one intrigues me mainly because I did a virtual on Good Friday and the Project A.P.E. cache on Canada Day. I'll have to go through and see what else I've already done.
  9. I didn't recognize the avatar but the name jumped out. I recently joined myccr too.
  10. In fact, some of the art could get you a smiley... And is it wrong to shamelessly plug my own cache, just a short walk from the terminal?
  11. I don't see that's what he said at all. What I hear is that there is a level of commitment that premium members have that the occasional cacher might not. Before I get blasted for that comment, I have to say this thread reminded me to check up on a log by a premium member on my first EC. He logged it in August and as of today had not replied to my email requesting he send an email at least to verify he was there. There was no photo and his log consisted entirely of "thanks." I too like to be flexible because I want people to visit the areas I am privileged to have listed as EarthCaches. However, a one word log, no email or photo does nothing to prove they were even there. So the log got deleted today. This was only the second log I have deleted on either one of my ECs so far. So that makes the deleted count PM:1, regular member:1. Neither of my ECs are premium only and I don't expect to limit it for future ones either (and I've got a few in the works for the coming year). However, the audit log alone would entice me.

    PiGo

I was excited to find out about this app. I just did my first Wherigo as my 1000th cache with the CO's borrowed GPSr. I have an iPod Touch with Dual XGPS251 so once the login issue is resolved and the only other Wherigo in 100 km is enabled again, I'll be able to give it a go...
  13. good one ibycus! now for the Columbia & Western railway - it was fun searching for an answer which I found. I didn't have to search far on the geocaching website to find an answer. However, I still don't have a new question.
  14. thanks, a lot of the credit goes to Landsharkz and the rest of our 'team'. They've been great people to work with.
  15. Thanks Tequila, if you hadn't guessed by now, I'm an enthusiastic volunteer for the event. I speak here as an avid cacher, not as official representative. But I know Wherigos were one of the things I wanted to see in Three Hills and area as I want to see how many icons I can get that day. With your offer, are you meaning techincal support in setting one up or some other capacity? If you reply here or PM me, I'll pass the info along to the rest of our volunteer organizing group.
  16. A little birdy (or was it a sharky?) told me that Team Pawz may be organizing a convoy from the Island. You would be most welcome here.
  17. Hi there, thanks for your interest in the Badlands. Some people would say it takes less time (they have a heavier foot than me ) but I would say budget 90 minutes to drive, longer of course because you'll want to cache on the way out.
  18. Woohoo! We've got a great bunch of volunteers to organize this. I'm looking forward to having a mega so close to home. I'm booking vacation time around this so will be around Three Hills for the better part of two weeks. Suits me fine, after Victoria last year and GW VIII this year I'm ready to camp 'in my own backyard'. Looking forward to meeting many new people and seeing others again.
  19. actually, this is the one that bugs me a bit (ok more than a bit), if you're going to take the time to visit the spot let me know about it. I like to tell a bit of a story with most of my finds and I have never left just a TFTC (although I've been tempted). Part of the reason I place caches is to hear about people's adventures, whether it be a woodpecker spotting or getting poked in the eye by a branch then rubbing it while still walking and tripping over a log that you didn't see because my er, their hand was over my their eye. The unnamed cacher in this story made a full recovery and carried on that day to find more caches.
  20. easy, yup, when you've got the right angle or helper My brother and I will be down in Macleod for the Santa Claus parade and he's going to want to hit Sparwood that day. Now I can help him with the truck...
  21. Ha!, me too.My cousin calls her Nuvi Andrea.
  22. And I see it is published... Namaka Lake
  23. here's the link to the event on Sat, Nov 6. Timing's bad for me so I won't be able to make it. Have fun though.
  24. Hi D8Kat, I do believe we met at one CCAR event. I don't recall seeing any posts here from Lethbridge cachers but you could check out the Calgary forums at this link. I had advocated for a Lethbridge/Medecine Hat forum one time without any success. My parents are just outside Coalhurst so I spend a fair bit of time in the Lethbridge area. See you on the trails! To comment on Doug's post, there's a nice EarthCache at [shameless plug]Leitch Collieries[/shameless plug] on the way to Elkford.
  25. Landsharkz put it in their post but here it is again... GC14F A quest for the oldest cache in the province... that fits well into my obsessive nature. You might see some Calgary Cachers, weather and Saturday event permitting.
