  1. Okay - based on the discussion here, I have come to some conclusions: Originally I was going with the PK-(4-unique-digits-of-geocache) for parking, and the like. But I have one of those old 6 character GPSr units. When I was out this past weekend, I decided to add my travel and parking waypoints starting with the 4-unique-digits-of-geocache, followed by a number for travel, and a P for parking. This will put all the non-cache entries together in another section of my GPSr, all put together. For example, I just changed the parking coordinate for GCT82M From PKT82M to T82MPK Second, I will add a reference to the original geocache in the description of the waypoint (at least until that is automatic on the sub-page). An additional suggestion (I think it has been suggested before) for the waypoint detail page - a download coordinates button. Thanks! Keith Mr. WitzAbout (WitzAbout is now a premium ID )

    Event - Found?

Right - which is why I changed my idea to saying a count in this field would be a nice things to see

    Event - Found?

Well, I still think last found on a future event would be cachers that have found the event online, and plan to attend. But LD makes a good point - having a bunch show up in your search, having no last find date would definately make it easier to know it was an upcoming event. (Of course if anyone put in an 'attended' entry by 'accident' that would throw off your methodology!) It seems to me that a last found date for an event is not very useful. The only date that really counts is the event date itself. I think it would be much more useful to have an RSVP/Attended count(s) in that field instead. Perhaps different colors for RSVP vs Attended, to help indicate future vs. occured events. You could have the word in front "RSVP: 18", "Attd: 12"

    Event - Found?

I agree with you for the most part! You certainly would not want an RSVP to count as a find in a cacher's stats - only an attended. But on the search page, having no last-found makes it look like is an event that nobody cares to go to. I think it would be nice to see RSVPs count in the last-found column on the list-of-caches page, so you can see that there is activity for an event cache leading up to when it happens. I'm only asking to see something in the last-found date column for an event - as an event is a special item. And in most cases, the 'last found' is more about 'last activity' on a cache. Thanks for the reply!
  6. I just found a bug in the add-waypoint feature... I went to the add new geocache form page. I immediately clicked the add-waypoint. It seems I got someone else's GUID: http://www.geocaching.com/hide/wptlist.asp...8a-9fbe91cd7ed9 --The page said: Managing waypoints for a listing Waypoint Collection You do not have access rights to edit waypoint info for this listing but you can view coordinates. For listing: Callin' All Cachers (Unapproved) (Traditional Cache) --" Callin' All Cachers (Unapproved) " is a link. For grins, I tried it again - and got a different unapproved cache. Please let me know if this post is being seen. This seems like an important issue to fix. If I do not see any reply, I will assume I need to post this information elsewhere to have it get the correct attention.
  7. I'd like to think I am one too! I try to assist people on the site whenever possible - such as giving advice to people having trouble logging sites or TBs - or even helping out admins with fixes the admins need to make on caches when I notice. I have just planned the first event for our local area. I hope to have this grow. In the process, I found out that a local outdoor store was asked, and is planning, to give a number of presentations on geocaching at the local libraries. I offer to help with the presintations - to the point of helping plan the content, and doing the presentations on some of the days. I am working on some software that may help geocachers, and may even provide a very usable solution the route issue. I have placed a number of caches in my area, and try to maintain them the best I can. I have noticed a number of HTML issues on the site lately. The first one I posted, I got a thank-you from the site. The last set of HTML issue I posted, I never got any replies, even after I created a new topic to post the issues. I had also posted a message through the site. I noticed later one of the issues was addressed within another topic, and showed up fixed last night. Another issue seems also to be fixed as of last night. One issue is still outstanding. I do not know if my work to help keep the site working it's best is being taken wrong or if I am not reporting it the best way. I can't help but wonder if I am not seeing any replies due to my not being a member. I was waiting to make sure the value of the site before I purchased a membership. I am more than convinced about the value, I just have to work it into the budget - which I expect to be able to do very soon. I would hope that my work towards geocaching would be appreciated, member or not.
  8. I also noticed that the javascript decode does not seem to be used in 2 cases, it uses post to server: 1) Javascript decode does not work when in print-friendly version of a cache page. 2) Not used on encrypted log entries (should it be? Might be really complex).
  9. I didn't know coordinates could be changed so little. It sounds like there needs to be a way to mask coordinates on archive by request. Thanks for the info! Keith aka Mr. WitzAbout
  10. About the making sure nobody can find their way to the coordinate... It seems to me that you can never delete a cache, because anyone who has found (or posted any log entry) on the cache has a significant ownership of the log entry on the cache. You wouldn't want log entries, counts and pictures removed just because a cache owner wanted to delete a cache. But I can see very much a situation where you would want to remove a specific GPS location from being listed on the site. Thus I'd suggest as a solution, that you edit the cache information and change the GPS coordinates to something else - like a bogus 00.000 in the middle of the ocean. While this may require an admin approval, at least it would give you a solution. Keith

    Page Issues

I'm not sure if the notes I added to the 'HTML tweaks needed' topic were being seen by the right people. I did not see a reply or fixes. I tried sending an email last night, but I'm guessing that was lost in the volume of email. So I am creating a new topic for things I've found on the site lately that need a little attention. I hope I'm not being a pain - but I don't see letting them go on such a great site. I'll summerize them all on this entry - if you need more details, please see the prior topic mentioned above. 1) Links with class='miniwhite' are nearly invisible on grey background, should be class='miniwhitelink' 2) "add/edit waypoints" link is giving me bad GUID error screen from new or edit 3) Nearest Placename page has 2 issues: a) terraserver link needs to be renamed to .aspx from .asp topozone and terraserver links all point to a single coordinate over and over for the entire page Please let me know if this is the best way to report these kinds of issues - thanks!! Keith
  12. Looks like the 'seek' one for a geocache is fixed - but it is still a problem on a number of other pages... Home > Users > $user$ > Profile where the $user$ is nearly invisible Home > My Details > Geocaches Owned/Found where 'My Details' is nearly invisible Home > Getting Started > Geocaching FAQ 'Getting Started' is nearly invisible Home > Benchmark Hunting > Gallery 'Benchmark Hunting' is nearly invisible Home > Seek > Cache Maps 'Seek' is nearly invisible Home > Seek > Cache Logs 'Seek' is nearly invisible This should be a good sample, but may not be a complete list So it seems most, but not all, parent node links are matched to the wrong css style. Looking a little deeper, the ones that are nearly invisible have class 'miniwhite' and the ones that work have class 'miniwhitelink'
  13. Found something else that needs a tweak... Going to a cache, and selecting the link find... '...all nearby placenames' On the 'terraserver' links - getting a page not found on their server. Checking a bit more - found they renamed the code: from 'image.asp' to 'image.aspx'. Also noticed that all the coordinates in the terraserver links and the topozone were all the same coordinate over and over.
  14. Noticed something else... There are some links on the hierarchy home line near the top, for example: Home > Seek > View Cache Details The 'Home' link is yellow and not-underbar normally, underbar on hover, looks fine. But the normal underlined link, 'Seek' on this page, is underlined and blue when not hover-over. This make the the word in the link nearly invisible on the grey bar. When you hover, it becomes yellow, underlined. This seems to affect the current parent links. IE6 (even tried the shift/alt-reload). Just checked, same issue in Firefox 107.
  15. Another quick note - I noticed the new add/edit waypoints link on the report/edit new cache. I was curious how they worked, but whenever I click it, I get a GUID bad error: Server Error in '/' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guid should contain 32 digits with 4 dashes (xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx). Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Event - Found?

I just posted my first event cache - and got my first RSVP just a few minutes after it was posted (asking FTF LOL). I noticed that the event/cache does not show as found. It looks like attendeds are the only thing that count as finds. Should RSVPs be considered as finds? Maybe based on date? Before the event date, an RSVP could be a found. And on or after the event, an attended would count as a found? Porbably too much complexity for something that is not really needed. Just something to ponder. Thanks again for such a great product! Keith
  17. Ah - so it will be back! I had read the note, but I did not understand that it meant the milage per cache, I had just assumed total milage. But that makes sense that it would affect the in-between milage too! Maybe it would be helpful to have some sort of place holder in the miles traveled for each log field - something like "(to be calculated soon)" ? I think it makes a lot of sense to have a limited number of log entries on the TB detail pages. But is there value to having a 'show all' TB logs link, like you can with cache logs?
  18. Glad to help! Thanks for the reply! Keith
  19. Is it just me, or did the milage between caches on travelbug details disappear? I like that feature - I would like to see it come back please!
  20. A couple of quick notes on HTML things that could use a fix: Searching - seek/nearest.aspx On a Mine/"My Cache" icon, the ALT tag is missing the equals sign (and quotes?) Recient logs link from main page - seek/history.aspx alt='Didn't find it' surrounded by single-quotes (apostrophy) and has an apostrophy in the middle of the string. Should probably be surrounded by double-quote like on the log page
  21. Another quick comment on the updates. I noticed that the long description in no longer indented. But now that means there is no obvious separation from the short description. Perhaps adding an HR, or if there is no HTML is the descriptions, you could do that neat color boxing that you have added to the logs. PS - I love the javascript decode option! Nice!
  22. As you see, I do have 2 IDs - one I started just for me (KAH731) and one I started a little later for the family (WitzAbout). I never went back to the KAH731 ID to backlog all the caches I found alone or with my family as WitzAbout. The only one I really debate about is putting the first one from KAH731 on the WitzAbout ID. Thanks for your reply. In theory I could create seperate IDs for each person, and keep up the logs for each. But it is a little like travelbugs - you can log them in while logging a cache find - it is one log entry for 2 actions. It seems to me that members of a group should be able to be part of one log entry, by have it count for each cacher. I know as a cache owner, I would prefer being able to see 1 log find per group - because to me, a log entry of found should be the one find, even if more than one person was involved in the find. I don't think I'd want to see a family of 7 create 7 log entries, with 7 emails when they find a cache, just so they could log each person finding the log. And if GC.com is willing to consider the members of a group suggestion - I think it might also be neat to have a second set of checkboxes to be able to track which member(s) of the team were the ones to spot the cache. As to guests - you are right, that most will get their own account pretty quickly. But if there was some way for an initiated cacher to help a newbie get started, such as my idea about a 'kit' page, I think it would make it more comfortable for some to get started. I would think we, as a the GC community, would want to make it easier and more enticing to join.
