  1. I actually was "scolded" for not disabling my cache on the first DNF. I usually e-mail the person that posts a DNF and ask where they looked and what they found. Usually I will get something in return like "found velcro attachment and no cache" or "didn't find anything" and their description of where they looked was way off. In the later situation, I will give them a clue if they want.
  2. I check my cache logs every day. The cache finds were logged on 7/22 but I didn't receive notices until much later. The same person found 7 of my caches in one day and logged them all on 7/22. The find notifications have trickled in since then, the first one came in around the 25th. Also, the FTF posts on the caches I got late notification on state that they were sitting at their computer when the new cache notification came to them. Go figure - maybe I'm on time out???!!! Also, I usually get instant notification. In fact, this morning I did get a notification for a cache that was just published - who knows...
  3. I've been receiving alot of late e-mail notifications lately. I received one today regarding a find on one of my caches from 7/22! I looked through notices and there seems they had a glitch in the middle of July - is that what is affecting my late notices. I've gotten several New Cache notifications in the last week and by the time I get them, seems 3-5 people have already found them. Not that it is a big deal, but this does totally eliminate my ability to get a FTF. Also, if others are finding the caches on the day they get published seems that others are getting notifications on time. Anybody have any ideas what might be my problem???
  4. Does anyone cache with a Palm V and Magellan Companion?? I have a Palm V and use cachemate. I would like to buy a Magellan Companion to go along with it and use just one unit to cache. I would appreciate any feedback I can get! Thanks!
  5. I am interested in one unit, that combines GPS and PDA. Any thoughts on the best units out there for caching? I am really uneducated in the area of computers/electronics, so any info would be a great help!
  6. BEAUTIFUL!! That is exactly what I had in mind - now I know how to go about it! Thanks for the help!!!!
  7. What if the "red herring" had just the waypoint of another cache site? If it did not contain the actual coords, it shouldn't be considered stage 1 of a multi, right? I recently went to a cache that had a puzzle in it. If you solved the puzzle, and e-mailed a picture of the solved puzzle to the owner, the owner would send coords. for another cache site. This is kinda what I have in mind. Instead of solving a puzzle, you need to find the red herring. Does any of this make sense???
  8. Okay, so I am interested in placing a cache that is somewhat tricky. I have planned to plant a red herring near by. What I would like to do is place coords in the red herring to a secret cache site, with instructions in the actual site to look for the red herring for coords. I would like to make this 2 seperate caches, not a multi. Has anyone done anything like this before? How do you post the second cache. I would like it to be accessed only through finding the first one. If anyone can follow what I'm trying to do and knows how to go about achieving this, please give me some insight! Peace - clu
  9. I have a question for those of you seasoned cachers. I wonder is it proper to revisit a cache if you see that it has a geocoin, or jeep, or travel bug that you want. If you have already logged the cache, are you able to go back to that cache for the purpose of taking the loot?? I have seen a few caches that are travel bug hotels, and in the cache description it says feel free to drop by again. If a cache doesn't say so, is it wrong to go back again to take something that you want? Thanks for the input!
  10. Okay - so here is my view on DNF. IF I have all the time I want to look for a cache, no babies crying, no job to run back to, and I don't find the cache, I post a DNF. If I am on my lunch hour, and only have a few minutes to check a few nooks and crannies, have babies and an impatient husband sitting in the car, have to get home to cook dinner, or any other reason for not looking as long as I feel necessary, I do not post a DNF. I consider the owner of the cache. I don't want to have them jumping in their cars and running off to check their cache sites just because I only had a minute to look. So many times the next time I look I find it. I usually just send the owner a quick e-mail and let them know I am stumped, get a hint, then if I feel I have searched as much as I can and still can't find it I post the DNF. This is not a numbers game for me - I just love caching, so for me - clearing up my DNF list is rewarding. No DNFs means no reward of clearing up the list! Just my 2 cents!
  11. So, yesterday while caching, I came across a Washington Geocoin. Very cool. I traded a TB for it and brought the beauty home. When I got home, I logged it, it has a tracking number and a website to track it, but it doesn't show up on my geocaching stats. I thought geocoins showed as stats on your profile. Did I do something wrong, or am I just mistaken and they don't show as stats?? Thanks
  12. Okay, so I bid on and won a Palm IIIxe on ebay last night. Can't wait until I get it so I can get this whole paperless thing going!!! Thanks for all the advice!
  13. Thanks a bunch for all the suggestions. They all help - I even understood most of it!!! clu(less)
  14. Okay, so I've been lurking for a while now, but I really want to go paperless too. I am totally a non-technogeek kinda gal - so please, if someone can tell me in simple english, not in some high tech mumbo-jumbo, I would really appreciate it. I am looking for a PDA (that's the limit on my geekness), but have no idea what to get. I read about people picking them up cheap, but when I look in stores/on line for one, they are all hundreds of dollars and have blue teeth and junk like that. Now, with that said, what I need is a brand, model number and price range (keeping in mind that I want to spend less than 100 bucks) so I can get one of these dealies that keep track of caches so I don't have to kill a tree or commit 300 cache pages to memory before hitting the dusty trail. Thanks - clu
