  1. I was out for 2 months due to my own stupidity! Left my gpser at a cache site and never found it again. Had to wait two months to buy a new unit! During that time, three cahes popped up within two miles of my house! The agony! Got my new unit last week, but now I'm stuck at home grading papers for the term that just closed
  2. While on vacation in Maine with my brother two two weeks back, we did some caching. His work provides him with internet access via their cell carrier. Nice to check google maps while zipping along I95 at 70mph!
  3. I often bemoan the fact that certain aspects of my life make it hard to get caches when I want to. I teach and coach, which makes summers great, but also makes school-year FTFs impossible. I have small kids (2 and 5) who I love to take out on caching trips, but this limits us in terms of terrain, distance, etc. I'm married, and even though my wife loves to cache, married life (house, family functions, etc.) brings with it many responsibilities that get in the way of caching! One big positive is that I live in an active caching area, with hundreds of caches within 25 miles. This got me to wondering, what would be the ideal caching lifestyle? A job would be needed for the $ required, but one with a certain amount of flexibilty in the hours... My challenge is: describe the life (job, marital status, age, residence, etc.) best suited to gecaching. Let's be realistic here - obviously, retired single millionaire would be ideal - describe a real world scenario.
  4. In our area, a cache has been temporarily disabled for just this reason! Lake Winnemaug Cache
  5. I love this new feature. I don't do much more than try to locate clusters of caches for caching daytrips with my family. This makes it a breeze. Thanks!
  6. We considered ourselves a fairly active family, but we had never been on as many hikes as we have since we started caching. Our four year old daughter walks most of the way, rides on shoulders a bit. The 16 month old goes in a back pack; one parent carries him in, the other carries him out. Katie loves finding the treasures. We rarely do micros, as for her it's all about the swag! On another note, CT is a great place to cache, especially the northwest corner. I have several pages of caches within ten miles of my house!
  7. Ahh, yes. Still, even as a virtual, hard to find a place so few have seen!
  8. An interesting story in the news today. Who will caim the FTC (first to cache)? Waterfall "discovered"
  9. Just got back from a trip to Disney myself and saw a few of the benchmarks noted on the web site linked above. I had investigated virtual caches before I left, but hadn't thought to check for benchmark posibilities - no gps with me, but I got a few pics.
