  1. Garmin Mapsource does it and so does GPS Utility http://www.gpsu.co.uk/
  2. I recently logged a virtual cache on Nevis whilst vacationing. I thought this was safe. I also placed a micro there but have not logged it yet as I read the maintenance aspect and was undecided. I would be interested to know of the 142 countries with caches, how many are active because of vacation cachers or because of indigenous cachers? I personally would like to look for a cache in a country I was passing through in order to have another country on my found list (I do like stats ), and if it's not there I can log it as not found. Maybe when you entered a vacation cache into the system there could be a field to flag vacation cache so people would not be surprised if it wasn't there. I can understand the idea of maintenance to prevent your cache contents being thrown around and causing a problem, but some of the foreign caches will be visited so rarely that cache abuse shouldn't be a problem. Even if there are maintenance visits, anything could happen to the cache in between visits?

  4. Check out GC3F71 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=16241 Garmin 3+ happily measured around -350M (-1,150')
  5. GC1DEA (Wales, UK) to GC282A (Petra, Jordan) 4104.4 Km, 2550.3 miles. Enjoy the UK

  7. If the coords for parking aren't there, someone will complain. If they are there someone will complain (it seems). Put them there and one group is satisfied and the other group can ignore them.
  8. BBC World TV program "Click Online" about computers and tech stuff did a piece on it last year.
  9. well I do get around a bit, but no plans for this part of the world at the moment Better work on the bowmanship just in case. Neutiquam erro - I'll tell this to the wife next time she dares to question our progress.

  11. Interested in the group's view on this one: Cache page has a "cache is missing" warning on it. Someone goes out to cache, unaware of the status of the cache (maybe downloaded coords without looking at the page). Person cannot find cache, but finds signs it was there (say paint from the cache box). Person logs a "find" based on having been in the correct location. Cache page now shows Find log after a No Find log and the cache is officially missing.
  12. I got in on video and watched it last week - it is a classic (and also maybe a warning against geocaching in the Appalacians!) "Squeal like a pig"
  13. maybe I'm missing the point, but if you select "Canada" in the Locate Nearest Caches box on the main page, you can then select "View Cache Map of Canada" and it shows all the caches - you can zoom into an area to find/identify caches? I guess you need you know the area you're interested in though.
  14. With the rec. system, if you mark that a 4WD drive is required it automatically sets difficulty to 5. I have tried one in Middle East that was supposed to be 2.5 but was much harder - likewise I have done 3s in UK that I would have graded as 1.5/2 max. If the system was used it would certainly help. I have emailed a cache owner that I thought the rating was too high, but nothing happened.
  15. like bigcall, I have been using the strap connected to the metal battery cover ring for about six months with no issues - I hang the GPS off my back pack strap when I need to use both hands to climb. I am thinking of replacing the strap with a length of para cord though for additional security.
  16. I understand you approve of going back to a cache to take a TB that's been placed there after your first visit, but what are the thoughts on going back to a cache to reclaim a TB you originally placed in the cache because no one has been to move the TB on for weeks/months? The idea is then to move the TB on to somewhere more popular. A downside could be someone could just keep moving a TB back and forth to increase its travel distance (I see how sensitive some people are to TB abuse).
