  1. Early in January sounds good to us. We're planning an event for Feb. 1, 2003 to celebrate two years of Geocaching.
  2. The 2/1/2001 story on CNN is what got us started. We found our first cache on 2/4/2001.
  3. I believe the cache you're looking for is Front Door To The FASTLANE (GC50A4).

  5. Before SA was turned off, my GPS III would typically report an EPE of 45-60 feet. With no changes to the GPSr, it now typically reports an EPE of 15-25 feet. Also before SA was turned off, I remember reading a notice somewhere, probably the U.S. Coast Guard web site, of a military test that would cause any GPSr within a defined area off the coase of North Carolina, to report an incorrect position. This notice said that the test would affect ships and aircraft. I assume this was a test of Selective Deniability.
  6. We like the idea of everyone meeting in Salisbury and holding the competition in that general area.

  8. Saturday, Oct. 26 works for us but we have tickets to the Panthers game on Sunday.

  12. We found this cache before it was archived and thought it was a great cache. There was no religious agenda and the contents were no different than many other caches we've found. The only thing religious about the cache is that you answer Bible trivia questions to find the coordinates and that's obvious to anyone reading the cache description.
  13. Glad to hear you're out of the hospital. We're interested. What have you got in mind?
  14. Last year, I asked Garmin about NiMH batteries in my GPS-III. Here's their reply. Thank you for contacting GARMIN. Yes, you can use NiMH batteries in your unit. However, even selecting NiCAD will not give an accurate reading of the power consumption of the batteries. You will have to change the batteries based on when you think they are getting low. Thank you and best regards, Garry Marshall Customer Service Representative GARMIN International 1-800-800-1020 913-397-0836 (fax) http://www.sales@garmin.com
  15. quote:Originally posted by mtn-man: I will go ahead and explain why I do not think it should be approved... At one time, and two story adobe hut could have been the tallest building around. A cache that is for THE tallest building might be novel, but this one does nothing for me. ... IF that two story adobe hut still exists, AND it is documented in a reputable source (newspaper, magazine, book, plaque on the site, etc.) that it was once the tallest building in the state, then yes, it would be a valid find. It would also be one heck of an historic find as well. We never intended this to just be a 'find a tall building and log it' cache.
  16. We would prefer Sunday because we have to go to a wedding on Saturday.
  17. quote:Originally posted by Gloom: Seems like it has historical significance to me. Maybe if you changed to be the CURRENT tallest building in the state/province? ... Our reason for this cache was to find out about buildings that were the Empire State Building or the Sears Tower of their day. If we limit it to the current tallest building, there are only 51 in the USA including DC. The real jewels we're trying to learn about are ones built in the late 19th and early 20th century that are fading into the past even though they were once the pride of their state.
  18. We posted the following cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=23336 and it was disapproved with a reference to the new locationless cache requirements saying it wasn't "special enough". Before posting the cache, we had already read the new requirements and thought that this cache met the requirements. We've thought about it for a while and still think it meets the requirements, so we decided to ask here. You can't just log any skyscraper, it must be a building that was once the tallest building in the state. We think that any building meeting this criteria is of special historical interest and there are certainly coffee table books on skyscrapers.
  19. You plan your honeymoon around Geocaching. We did!

  21. Hawk-1A can be enjoyable. Especially if you enjoy it on a cold day in January.
  22. We have a couple of ideas for caches that we'll work on once we're past this wedding stuff. These caches may be a little too easy for Jerry and Hawk-Eye's tastes but we'll do what we can. It's a shame that work keeps interfering with our geocaching time.
