  1. Cache Smashing ( for want of a better word) really does sum up how some people think it's ok to behave these days.... It makes me sick
  2. Thanks for your efforts roolku! Nice to see that there are still people out there who can come up with excellent tweaks like this... Well Done!

    Gckht2

please help! Would anyone going near GCKHT2 (hanken) please collect my travel bug sheldon and move him on please? he is getting pretty cold! Thanks, Thunderbird30
  4. RE:Liquid Fortress Vista (GCGH1J) Hi All greetings from the U.K....My TB (Bob The Bog Eyed Bug) was placed in this cache on 17 September 2004. I was wondering if anyone would go by and pick the old fella up? Thanks to you all. Thunderbird30
  5. Gas BBq's ? now that gets my goat more than anything else!! why don't you just cook the flippin stuff in the oven? The whole 'thing' about bbq's is the taste of what you cook the stuff on.....cherry wood, whisky soaked oak etc-but not gas..........!
  6. Have a good holiday in Scotland! We've a bit of snow at the moment......!
  7. just got an xj900f & bmw r850r...not that I'll be taking them caching after my posts about 4x4's...! The RBR sounds like a good idea-a bit like bsh's landmarks tour......
  8. I'm just quoting the term as I read it from the magazine... Something tells me that I've touched on a sensitive subject with the Roving Rangies and others.I apologise if I have offended them. I have nothing against 4x4/motocycle drivers/owners (being one myself)or any other person going rallying, trials riding, cross country,greenlaning,enduro,moto-cross,speed trials or whatever. I suppose that I like to escape to the countryside for peace, quiet and tranquility. Maybe I'm naive, butI don't see the car/motorbike/quad or whatever being part of that, and that's one of the main reasons for geocaching in my view.
  9. Sorry-I didn't read that thread...But I still think it's a valid point!
  10. I've just read this article on todays cacher (www.todayscacher.com) http://www.todayscacher.com/2005/feb/outdoor.asp Don't get me wrong,I'm all for opening up the great outdoors to people, but surely this is going too far? I could wax lyrical about how lazy some people are and how they won't leave the comfort of their vehicles, but the real worry for me is how long before places that are renowned for their wilderness and tranquility become full of whooping, 4x4 and motorcross riders/drivers? (delete and insert mode of transport as applicable!) Not to mention the damage to the surrounding enviroment? I guess that I'm not the only person that has seen the mess that a track or pathway turns into after it becomes popular with greenlaners... Imagine the situation: The sun's out and the birds are singing. In fact everything's well with the world. You've managed to get out and the pressures and worries of the working week are leaving you.Suddenly the high rev of an engine fills the air and causes wildlife for miles to scatter, churning the delicate ground into a muddy mess. All this and in a National Forest too! More to the point, will the puzzle of trying to find a cache in a remote spot be somwhat spoiled is there are a mass of tyre marks leading right to it?
  11. I see some mug paid £2.50 (& £4.00 for postage) for these....have they never heard of reputable places to buy ? www.fingertech.co.uk charges just £4.25 including P&P!!! Personally, the next time I see tags listed and the seller is taking the p*s* with postage costs,I'll just blow the whistle on the seller...... After all,If you want to make more money from selling, just make the buy it now price higher or set a reserve.
  12. I'm thinking of placing a cache in Scotland (where I live) but how do you go about finding out who to ask for permission? Forestry Commision etc is simple enough, due to signs, but how would you find out who owns a piece of land in the middle of nowhere? I don't want to place a cache, only to be told off for not asking permission!
  13. Hi Nick! Sara & I are intending to place a couple of new caches pretty soon. One of them will be on Dava Moor, but the other may be on Cairngorm somewhere. It just depends on the weather!!
  14. I've just tried to log my 100th and for some reason whenever i try to log it on geocaching.com,the page just times out! is anyone else having problems?
  15. A real shock to read of Cats passing...Like a lot of the geocaching community,I never got the chance to meet him in person, but corresponded a few times and bought merchandise from him. He will be sorely missed.
  16. Sounds fine to me! I've not really spent much time in that part of Scotland,so it will be an excuse to get down there...............
  17. I agree with you Donnie.... Although Geocaching is whatever you want it to be,I do find the continual "xyz makes it 1000 etc" a bit tedious. If numbers are what it's all about, why don't we form a new 'group ' for the people that do do it for the numbers? ( I would say quantity not quality but everyone tries to make their cache as good as possible) We could call it Lamp-Posting !We claim a find on every lamp post we find, fill in a log on the web etc! Now that would really keep the number crunchers happy! Just imagine how many you could find in a day.... Personally ( and that's what it's all about) I would much rather do 4 caches in wild countryside than 30 in a buillt up area.........................................
  18. We will stay do the others, but not Ben Nevis....
  19. Put me and Sara down for the day out too.We did intend on doing Britains highest ourselves but we aren't fit enough yet!
  20. This Friday I'm driving from Inverness to Harrow and was wondering if there are any caches that I can 'bag' which don't involve more than a 5-10 minute deviation from my route? Also I won't be equipped for much scrabbling about! I'm going A9,M9,M80,A80,M74,A74(M),M6,M42,M40... So far (and with the help of Memory Map) these are possibles: GCJMZM GC4FCB GCJNFH GCGA81 GCC444 Happy Caching! Thunderbird30
  21. After using the overlays from GUK & mine,I'm going to continue to upload my overlay to the previously mentioned address.200 hits shows that people are interested. GeocacheUK has done an excellent job in providing a service that many UK Cachers (and me) use. Long may it continue! The difference (as far as I can see) is that you only have to hover over a cache icon to see the name\rating etc.On my slower system running MMand using the GUK overlay,it can take a while after selecting the details of a GUK waypoint for these details to appear.A small difference, but hey! Happy Caching Thunderbird30
  22. Sorry about that! I didn't realise that GUK was doing this too.....I was trying to help out other users that maybe (like me) weren't aware of being able to download MM overlays.
  23. If you need to delete all of them, just choose Overlay\delete all. What I usually do is when I find a cache, just right click on the single flag and then untick lock. Then just delete the single waypoint. Keep on Caching! Thunderbird30
  24. After some interest in the Geocaching overlays for the U.K,I've deceided to put them on a site for other Memory Map\Geocaching users. This will save me emailing them out to people, although it's been good to get in contact with other users. The overlay contains cache identifier (GC***),cache name, owner, terrain and difficulty. I'm aiming to update this file every few days or so to keep the overlay current. If anyone needs help on how to use an overlay, please email me. The link is: http://ee4usa2.fu8.com/mapping/ I don't think that I'm stepping on anybodies toes here legally, but if I am,please let me know. Happy Caching! Thunderbird30
