  1. I have 2 challenge coins in my collection that were given to me by cachers who serve in the military. There was an episode of NCIS (one of the very early seasons, I'll try to find it some time and do a screen capture) where Gibbs was looking at a display in someones office that held military challenge coins. from what I could tell, it was several rows of coins that had plastic containers that looked like the container could spin where they were held by the horizontal frame.
  2. Yellow Jeep Fever and Skate Parks I believe were the to highest locationless with 1438 and 2034 respectively. The reason I list both is that Yellow Jeep Fever was archived by Groundspeak well before the moratorium on locationless caches. Had it been allowed to continue I'm sure it would have given Skate Parks a run for it's money. Unlike virtuals and webcams, the locationless were not allowed to be grandfathered and continue.
  3. They're really serious about wanting you to stop in Gilbert, AZ. The cache, GCTPZP Should I Stop or Should I Go??? is at a location where there are a 4 stop signs. Not a big deal at a 4 way stop, unless they're all for the south bound direction.
  4. Here's yet another error... The Arizona Geocacher should be Arizona Geocachers. There's no such thing as a Arizona Geocacher 2006 Antique Brass. There is however a Arizona Geocachers 2006 XLE Silver edition. These were 50 of these non-trackables... that were never available for sale.
  5. oh, that's just screaming for a film canister. Actually, I think a 55 gallon barrel drum would be better.
  6. I've always been impressed with Danoshimano's website. Between the vivid pictures and the excellent descriptions he includes... If I ever find myself with enough time, I'd likely be imitating his site. Although I'm a long way from being able to copy some of the stuff he's done. Danoshimano's Geocoin Collection
  7. If they're just using a sockpuppet account to track virtuals, couldn't they just post notes instead of finds? With notes, it's likely no one would have even noticed, or bothered/cared to research it further.
  8. If virtual logging of trackables is grounds for having a travelbug/geocoin locked because it's considered an abuse of the service, shouldn't the same apply to someone who is doing the same principle with logging cache finds?
  9. Perhaps the "Since" could be changed to "EST." for established, and on the back could be scribed the starting date of any particular cacher. The location of any particular cacher's first cache, ie. state, could be scribed on the back as well.
  10. I gave my little sister a Garmin Geko 201 a few years ago. You might find some deals on those floating around. I know I saw one at Target a quite a while ago for like $50, on clearance. It has a smaller screen and no mapping, but has a backlight and connection for a data cable. It also has some games built in.
  11. I really haven't had much of a problem with the blades cutting the foam I use. I'm really not looking forward to cutting the foam core for some of the more elaborate shaped coins.
  12. That's why I included the foam inserts on the instruction page I made for the card binders. I just got a few pieces of foam core that I'm gonna see about using to replace the regular crafting foam that I've been using. It will probably be more difficult to work with oddly shaped coins, but it should keep the coins in place. Then I'll run a strip of clear packing tape across the tops of the sleeves to hold the inserts in place. When I get this done, I'll update my binder instruction page.
  13. This method will not work for the iPod Touch. The Touch specifically will not allow you to load the data into the notepad from your desktop. There may be a Mac workaround, but I'm not a Mac user. However, if you install an app like Airshare, you can get a similar result.
  14. Funny that this thread would get resurrected now. I was heading out to my truck last night for dinner and looked up and saw what I believe was the ISS (International Space Station). I instantly thought of the Heavens Above site... but never got back to look at it. Then tonight I see this thread.
  15. You could consider placing a "coupon" for the FTF'er to use to collect the prize. That way you're not violating any cache content rules, and you can verify that the person is of legal age to receive such a prize.
  16. I actually have the same devices you are asking about. Unfortunately the iPhone/Touch application does not yet have a way to receive bulk waypoint information. So for now, if you want to use the Geocaching app on your iPhone/Touch, you'll have to type in and save each waypoint individually. I have noted in other threads that there is an "airshare" app that will allow you to download files to the iPhone/Touch. The application will support major file formats like PDF's, word documents and other documents. So, it's possible to port the information one of these formats and view the info from there. What would be nice is if you could load .gpx files through this application and open it in the Geocaching app.
  17. iPod Touch with the Groundspeak application installed. The only thing that really sucks is that I have to plug in the waypoints manually for any caches I plan to visit. Pocket queries would be a nice feature for the app to recognize. There is an app I have installed that will allow me to upload various recognized file formats to a designated storage space. This particular app will recognize both PDF's and HTML pages among other standard formats. So I'm currently looking for a possible alternative that can employ until pocket queries are recognized by the official Geocaching app.
  18. LibertyBelle (a Texas Cacher) was helping distribute the latest Texas geocoins. The package slated to get to her bounced around Texas for a little while. Just as you would have thought it would arrive in Dallas, I get and instant message from her asking if I had a guess where the package was currently. I don't know why, because I really didn't have a clue, I responded with "I don't know, somewhere in Idaho?!?". She sent me the link to the tracking and asked how I possibly guessed it. The package had in fact been routed up to Boise, ID. The package did arrive with in two days of the trip to Idaho.
  19. I have a touch... which doesn't have a GPS. Also, I've been to some places on a regular basis where the iPhone's "so called" GPS doesn't work. And these are places where you definitely don't want to get lost.
  20. I've been debating buying one of these for the last two weeks. I'll get one if I know there is a way for me to use the GPS on my Touch outside of a car navigation application.
  21. How about a new type of multi-cache. You go to the coordinates, the transmitter kicks out a set location and you mark it with your GPS. Then leave the immediate area of the transmitter and then go to the actual location given by the spoofed transmission.
  22. Digging should be upsetting, it sheds a destructive light on our sport. It leaves those who don't know how we place a cache, looking at us as damaging the environment. That one bugged me too at the time. There was another episode where they were investigating someone who was "wardriving". (logging into open access points on someone wireless internet router.) They found a body with a N-Type adapter and Eames came across it while searching the victim. She pulled it out of his pocket and immediately identified it by name, at the crime scene, and knew that it was "predominately used by wardrivers". How many of you all could identify this on sight and know exactly why a victim would have it on them... Like the Geocaching episode, I think they took a few too many liberties for the sake of telling a story in 42 minutes.
  23. They've also been referred to as "L.U.M.'s" - Lame Urban Micros. There is a event cache equivalent called "Flash Mobs".
