  1. Email sent. I hope I'm eligible, since I've mostly lurked lately. I don't think I have a current list anywhere, but I'm happy with anything that shows up in the mail. I can always trade for something else, later.
  2. I don't think I've replied to this one before. I am 40 (it just snuck up and smacked me in the head), hubby is 31. No kids, but the dog sometimes goes with me. She's 12.
  3. Just a note on parking lot caches: My husband spent several weeks living out of a hotel in a strange city while working for the government. A series of parking lot/lightpost caches helped him learn his way around town and find the grocery store, movie theater, laundromat, etc. It may seem lame to you because you live there. To the out of towner, it may be a life-saver!
  4. Event in Las Vegas? We are SO there!! Wafflesdad and I go to Vegas at least once a year. Mom has a timeshare on the strip she'll let us use. Just need to come up with a rental car and some $$.
  5. I will be in Las Vegas from 9/26-30. Hubby can't go and Mom will be working there during the day. I want to get some caching in while I'm in the area and wondered if there are any events going on or if anyone wants to meet up and go do some cache you always wanted to do, but not by yourself. Also, are there any "can't miss" caches? I will have a rental car, so I'm pretty mobile, but have to pick Mom up by 4 or so.
  6. I love the canal scene. If you go with this, I gotta have one! We have draft horses and I got to ride in a canal boat pulled by horses once. Too cool.
  7. I enjoy racing endurance horses (25+ miles at a time), dressing up in 1800's costumes and riding sidesaddle in parades, teaching sidesaddle riding, working our draft horses, traveling to interesting places, sewing costumes, spending time with hubby, doing anything with animals (currently bottle raising a kitten), making pysanky easter eggs, and eating out.
  8. Newly formed group: Scioto Watershed Area Geocachers (Ohio) forum space at www.cogeocaching.org near the bottom of the forum page.
  9. Last night's event was great. Had a nice sized group. I still have two more duck racers if anyone wants one. They are $10, with proceeds going to defray costs for our next get-together at Tommyo61's place Halloween weekend. Keep an eye out for the listing. He has a gorgeous place for outdoor events. Oh, we have a name!! Thanks to Coaster, we are Scioto Watershed Area Geocachers. We have some space in the forums of www.cogeocaching.org if the site ever comes back up. See y'all down the trail.
  10. You are probably looking for RobJons. Go to your account page and on the right hand side somewhere will be "Find another member". Type in robjons and you will be able to send them an email. Another option is to find one of their caches and click on their name on the page.
  11. Next get-together is August 30, 7pm, at Old Canal Smokehouse in Chillicothe Ohio. Event cache name is Chillicothe Wednesday Evening Post. We'll also have some tb racers available for purchase. They are rubber ducks. I think the goal for them will be to get to next year's geobash! Hope to see everyone there!
  12. Ever heard The Electric Amish sing "Black Bonnet Girls"? Think Queen's "Fat Bottom Girls". Anyway, back on topic..... This place sounds good. We'll be there!
  13. I was hoping it would be in Erie, but NC is great, too! Can't wait!
  14. I would love to play! I am in southern Ohio, near Kentucky, and not too far from WV. I can fund 5 tags. I think I have 2 or 3 sets tucked away somewhere. More will have to wait until payday, though. My home cache is Home Is Where The Horse Is.
  15. Next Scioto Valley event will be in Chillicothe on August 30, 7pm. See y'all there!
  16. I'm going!! Seriously, there have been a few folks say they are coming and will be going caching afterwards, so I'm sure you can team up with someone there. I have to be at home by early afternoon for the horseshoer. If anyone would like to watch a draft horse get shoes, you are welcome to come and watch.
  17. Has anyone that sent their form in gotten their Jeep, yet?
  18. I need the code for F0t0m0m coin. It says it is trackable and has a 'pc' prefix number, but if it came with the code, I've lost it.
  19. I saw one at a recent event that was a 5 foot tall floor lamp, rewired for battery power light. Also, I currently have This Not-So Little Light Of Mine (I think that's the name) which is a camping oil lantern. It will get passed along at the next event I go to.
  20. Warning: Long post I got to attend a Search and Rescue Medical Responder seminar once and got to listen to a great lecture on spiders and snakes. A few things I remember: rattlesnakes are generally pretty easy-going, but have fairly powerful venom. copperheads are generally pretty aggressive, but have fairly weak venom. only 1 in 4 bites involves envenomation. a snake knows that you are too big for him to eat, so he only wants you to leave. young snakes don't know how much venom to inject, so will use a full dose every time you are more likely to get a big dose on a very hot day. the snake doesn't want to have to chase its prey, so it kills it quickly Most snakebites occur in the southern states. Of those, most victims are men. Of those, most involve alcohol. Of those, most are on the hand. Of those, most are not the first bite the victim has ever had. Sorry, I can't remember the lecturers name, but he was an MD that specializes in snake bites. I think he was from Colorado. He also said that antivenin is usually worse than the venom, often deadly. Don't apply a tourniquet or ice unless you fear for your life so much you are willing to lose the limb, because you might. DO keep the limb lower than the heart. DO stay calm. This will help more than anything else. The victim should not walk if it can be helped. This increases blood flow. You don't want the venom circulating. Don't use an epinephrine auto injector (Epi Pen) unless the victim is having symptoms of anaphylaxis (difficulty breathing, throat swelling, etc). Epi increases blood flow, so only take it if you may die without it. Oh, and once you have had antivenin, you will be sensitive to it forever and can't ever have it again, so make sure you really need it before you let anyone give it to you. Most people are not horribly sensitive to a snake bite the first time they are bitten. Yes, the site will look terrible and tissue will most likely die, but you most likely will not die or even have to be hospitalized. I was bitten by a copperhead in my own backyard. Never saw him until after it happened. My ankle looked really nasty for awhile, and the tissue "cored out" about the size of a quarter and maybe a half inch deep, but I don't even have a scar now. I felt sick, but not too bad. I rode 50 miles on the horse that weekend and did ok. Never did get around to going to a doctor.... Just be careful out there. Like I said, I got bitten in my own backyard.
  21. Closest that isn't mine or my husband's is 14.5 miles and is currently disabled. After that 15.3. There are 10 within 20 miles. Average difficulty is 2.5. Two are multis, a 3.5 and a 4. One is a 5 requiring a boat. One is in a state historical area that is only open during hours when I'm asleep (night shifter). A couple we just haven't gotten to, yet.
  22. I leave wooden nickels that I make by gluing a cardstock disk with caching name, city, state, year, and a pic of my Clydesdale. I trade them for other sig items, but if there is something in the cache I want, I trade something better for it. I have taken cachers calling cards, especially if it was from a cacher that I know to be not caching anymore or a cacher that I've met. I also have a really nice rubber lizard collection. There are a couple of cachers here that leave lizards as a sig item. My husband has collected up a nice bunch of plastic firemen that one cacher south of us and one east of us leaves.
  23. And if you are in the Midwest, the reviewers are all getting ready for the Geobash! I'll be surprised if anything gets published in the next 10 days!!
