  1. I say, "If Al Gore had wanted us to have little green frogs eating popcorn emoticons on the internet, he would have invented it that way!"
  2. My daughters (10 and 7) both can! It is easy to teach them. Simply start the hike and once they have to go bad enough, they will figure out a way to go.
  3. This appears to be fixed. closing.
  4. If I open the attachment from a PQ email and drop it into GSAK, I get the "Load GPX/LOC" window. I hit enter. GSAK processes the PQ and when done returns a few "statistics" about he PQ. It tells me how many caches were added (these would be new and usually draw my immediate interest) as well as the number of caches that were updated. I love the popup window. I have been reading and playing with GSAK a lot and have now automated the process with the Getmail macro. I love that macro, but can I get it to give me the statistics when it is done? I don't get those unless I manually load the GPX file. Not a big deal, I almost hate to mention it, but I just noticed it again.
  5. It has something to do with my "geocaching map." If I remove it, everything fits. Since it doesn't pertain to WM, I will remove it and appologize for bringing it up. Strange that it works on the other site.

Let's do that. Sounds like a good idea. It would be cool if there was a linky from one to the other, including from the forums. From the forums, we can visit Geocaching.com, but not WM.com.
  7. I agree! But, could TPTB please narrow up the main "window" on "My Page" so that the items on the right of the screen don't require me to scroll over there? The right-hand column on my screen (and every other website looks right) is off the screen about 1/2 way. But, I really like it too!
  8. I suppose a person can exclude any number of cachers. Here are a few tricks the person could have used to accomplish the same thing. 1. Make it a Member Only cache. This will exclude those who don't spend money to find these things. But, the FTF problem won't be solved. 2. Don't list the cache here. This one makes it easy to exclude 90% of the geocachers in the world. 3. Make the cache "invitation only". Nothing says a Geocache has to be listed here. Go hide the tupperware, email the person or people who they want to get the FTF, and after they find it, invite more people or list it here. That's the way I see it. I always assumed the purpose of this site was to "advertise" your geocache to the masses. I don't think the way they did it would work very well, either. edited to make it not sound like I was being disrespectful to the OP.
  9. Wayman? (like layman, not like the gender) Waymin? (like admin over a waymark) I like Wayfinder too. That could be used for the overall term describin one who participates. It could be used in place of "Waymarker".
  10. So, since those are the accepted terms at the moment, would the generally accepted terms then become: 1. WayManager 2. WayReporter 3. WayVisitor ??
  11. I love it, but there might be confusion about the difference between microbreweries and brewpubs.
  12. If / When I become a Waymarkist, don't I, in effect, become a travel bug?
  13. When I set my filter to 100%, I still don't see McDonald's. I also noted this text from filter help: I don't think that is true, because if I set it to 0, I don't see anything. I think it is worded backwards. I need to play with this some more.
  14. So, I have a [LOG] Watchlist email from 8/16/05 at 11:00PM that is fine, but every [LOG] email I have received since then has the same information at least twice per email, and sometimes three times. Here is an example: Thought you might like to know. All of my emails since yesterday are this way.
  15. Is one who visits Waymarks a "Waymarker"? That could get confusing. Waymarkist? Waymarkee? Waymarkdude? Waymarkman? Waymarkian? Waymarkperson? Hmmmm. Geocacher works, but Waymarker sounds like a place, not a person...
  16. I guess I see it as ANY chain COULD have it's own category if there is a waymark-person who is interested enough in requesting the category. The owner of McDonald's, the category, wants to see McDonald's as a waymark. I am still trying to decide what it is that I want to manage as a category. I have long given up* on trying to enforce my tastes on what others want to see as a waymark. Waymarking... To each their own. *About yesterday (8/16/05) at 1:30pm.
  17. Can't wait to get to my favorite BP soon so I can add it to your category, CarleenP. Your's will probably become my favorite...
  18. I am personally thankful the McDonald's category was here yesterday. Everyone can log a McDonald's. So, it allowed me to go through the steps and see what was happening. Before I created a waymark, I had no idea what the fuss was about. Now I just need someone to go eat at the one in Sterling, Illinois!
  19. I absolutely agree with you, BayouBug. 100%. My point is that, after reading the threads on that other topic, getting 2/3 majority to vote yes is going to be difficult at best, and may be impossible. Which means we will be left with the best "GPS Yellow Pages" for McDonald's (only)ever put together. I was / am trying to help brainstorm a process to get categories created. I really have fears about the whole "reach consensus in one thread, then earn 2/3 majority in a poll to get your category listed" approach. Either everything will get listed, or nothing will. I was hoping to include all eligible members in the voting somehow, not just the folks who happen into the forums. But, maybe I just need to see it work.
  20. I just googled "Iraq GPS" and there are some interesting sites listed. This first one may give you some clues. I know I saw a GPS unit on eBay with Iraq maps, but I can't find it nor the seller now.
  21. Could new categories have a "Probation Period" instead of being required to gain 2/3 vote in the forums? I have been reading some of the posts on the other topic and consensus looks to be hard to get let alone 2/3 majority. Say I suggest Burger King (I know, I know). After there is consensus that it should be allowed and Groundspeak has their say, it gets listed with the condition that the "community" must log X-number of Burger Kings in the first 6 months or the category goes away. Now, each category would require a different "X-number". There are Tens of Thousands of Burger Kings but only a few Major League Baseball stadiums. This way, the community (not just the forum regulars) would be voting with their participation.
  22. Here is a great example of why I am concerned about the whole "vote for my category" idea. Who are any of us to say that someone should or shouldn't be allowed to create a category that interests them? Have fun with your McDonald's category! Heck, I logged one as much out of curiosity as anything. It is a good thing it was there from the start, because 2/3 majority would be hard to come by, it appears.
