  1. I have one in my Amazon.com shopping cart for $343.95 with free shipping. You have to click a few links on their site to get to that price, but now that the $50 rebate has expired, I believe this is the best price out there.
  2. The areas I frequent fit into the legend. It works ok. Sure, more memory would be "nice", but not necessary (for me). Your experience may vary. I have a Palm M515 that I bought new a few years ago. It is a workhorse. I use it daily for scheduling/addresses/games/etc. Before the M515, I had an original V. It was outstanding also. It died after a freak accident involving a toilet. They are NOT waterproof. Both models can be found very reasonably on eBay. I would recommend the Vx for geocaching over the V (more memory). Someday, I will have another (newer) Palm. I work with guys who have the Zire 31 and the Zire 71. Both are outstanding units. Two guys in my department have Tungsten E and Tungsten E2 models. These are outstanding, but a bit of overkill for geocaching. If I needed another Palm today, I would buy a good working model on eBay.
  3. Nor had I. Google has heard of them though.
  4. This one is near me. I have been working for a couple of weeks to find someone with access to this campground. I want to be a "guest" and log this baby. I get calls from them every few months offering me a free color TV if I come hear their sales pitch. Next time they call, I am going to set up an appointment and take my GPSr!
  5. Ok, still nothing. Any other opinions / suggestions?
  6. M................., why "8"?, not "6" or other numbers? (I know not "7", "7" means lucky..............) In the Billiard game "Eight Ball", a player loses if they hit the eight ball in before all of their other balls (either the striped or solid balls). So, the phrase "Behind the eight ball" means that there is a high probability that the outcome of your next action is not going to be a positive one. If your ball is "behind the eight ball" there is a good chance you will hit the eight ball in and lose. Where I come from, we have a similar phrase. It is "Hey Y'all, Watch This!" Usually, this phrase is followed by a speedy trip to the emergency room, or the funeral home. HTH
  7. Wow, it is like you have been reading my mind. Would you mind if I pull up a chair and watch the responses with you? I can't wait to hear how all of this is done.
  8. Ok, I have compared registries. They are a bit different, but nothing stands out. I am wondering if I should simply merge my work registry with my home registry (garmin entries only)??? Also, I installed Regmon and set the filter to mapsource.exe. I launched the program and regmon lists a bunch of entries. Most say "success". A few say "Not Found" and even fewer say "No Entries". Since the last several entries say "Success", I don't see where the program failed. Now I am more confused.
  9. Thanks for the additional suggestions. I actually (don't tell Garmin) have the software installed at work. I did that to see if the CD was good. I will go there and export the registry this afternoon, bring it home and compare the two. I uninstalled last night when I grew frustrated at the whole thing. So, just now, I looked in the registry under HKCU and HKLM and there are NO listings for Garmin. There never has been when the software is uninstalled. When the software is installed, there is one in each place. I will compare registry entries in a bit. Thanks for the help!
  10. Actually, I have the 60CS in my shopping cart right now for $343.99. Free shipping. I am tempted to pull the trigger. If only the $50 rebate were still available...
  11. Thanks, those are the exact instructions that Garmin gave me. If I completely uninstall Mapsource, there is no Garmin entry in the registry to delete. Normally, that would be a good thing, right? I have installed tonight four more times, each time with the same error. I have shutdown, restarted, booted clean (no other programs running) and every other trick that I know. This one has me stumped. I even tried the Beta version of mapsource to see if it behaved differently.
  12. Umm, There will be times, no mater which unit you buy, that you will walk in some circles. Don't expect any unit to point you right to the tupperware. There would be no fun in that!
  13. I should have mentioned my OS. I am using XP Home Ed.
  14. Whilst using a Garmin Vista the last two weeks, I noticed the screen saying "Hold Level" whenever the unit is tipped. That's why I do it. My mama raised me to follow directions
  15. Here's a link to the 72 Owner's Manual. I wasn't familiar with this model, so I looked it up on their website. Good luck!
  16. I have Mapsource U.S. Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot spots central v5. After installing it I get an error that says "There is a problem with the MapSource Registry. Please re-install MapSource and start it again" when I run it. I have uninstalled, repaired, re-installed about a dozen times and continue to get this message. I emailed Garmin Tech Support and received a very nicely detailed message with instructions on fixing my problem. Basically, they told me to uninstall Mapsource, edit my registry to remove both instances of "Garmin" from the software sections of the registry and then re-install the software. Finally, they told me to upgrade to version 6.5 after I get v5 installed and running correctly. I attempted to follow their instructions to the letter, but they don't match what I am seeing. When I attempt to uninstall Mapsource, I see two instances in the "Add / Remove Programs" dialog box. There is a listing for "Mapsource" and one for "U.S. Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot spots central v5." If I uninstall both, there are no "Garmin" listings to remove from the registry. If I only uninstall one of them (as the instructions from Garmin state), I only see one instance of "Garmin" in the registry and it will not allow me to delete it. I am wondering if anyone else has seen this. I have attempted to install and upgrade, but I am left with the same error. The software was new, but obviously an older version. Anyone have any hints / tricks that I am missing? The software installed fine on my work computer, so I know the disk is good. Thanks in advance.
  17. Congratulations! Your find is less than 100 miles from me, so I might get to that one sometime soon. My seven year old is hooked too!
  18. You lost me at "Paid a visit to my Ex."
  19. Good thought. The other culprit may be sunscreen. I ruined the finish on my scanner while sitting in the sun at a NASCAR race. The sunscreen completely ate the lettering and 'shine' from it. I feel for you, I wouldn't be happy about that happening to an expensive item of mine, either.
  20. There are 10 kinds of people in the world.... Those who understand binary, and those who don't.
  21. CTD is correct. The only difference between the two models is the compass, barometer, and about $53.57 (MSRP). Actually, on the street, I have seen them within $30 of each other. From Garmin's website: "Both the GPSMAP 60CS and GPSMAP 60C are packed with extra features, including rapid automatic route calculation, an integrated outdoor calendar, a dedicated geocaching mode, and indoor/outdoor GPS games that turn the outdoors into a giant gameboard. The GPSMAP 60CS also offers an electronic compass and barometric altimeter for highland adventures. These sensors, when combined with GPS technology, provide enhanced bearing and elevation readings. "
  22. Been there, done that, buying the GPSr, Travel Bugs, Hiking Staff, topo maps, Bug Spray and Happy Meals.... No one mentioned how addicting this stuff is. There should be some sort of warning.
  23. I am a lurker. I enjoy reading and, some day, I will join in when a topic strikes me. I am Corey, I live in NW Illinois. I graduated from The University of Iowa a long time ago with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Because of that, I love techno-gadgets and this site has opened a whole new opportunity for more techno-obsessions! I have been on a couple of hunts, so I am still very new to this. My children had a blast, so I know there will be more caching in our near future. My first order of business is to buy a GPSr. I have been borrowing one and trying to convince my wife that I have a "need" for another toy. Anyway, I enjoy reading all the posts and learning more as I go.
  24. I was stuck trying to make this same decision. I had narrowed my "wish list" to these same two models. After finding the deal at Buy.com, I think my decision has been made. They have the VistaC for $240.66 after rebate. They don't get much cheaper than that and I have been pleased with their service on past transactions. Of course, the offer expires tomorrow night at midnight, so I need to get after it. Good luck!
