  1. Hello everyone! I'm a student from Belgium, and am two months in the USA. I do not have a car, nor a bike. I only have my trusty feet. Hoping to find at least a few caches in the States, I'm looking for a fun group to tag along with. Hope someone is interested in a few hours or days of caching!
  2. Oh ok, thanks! Didn't know the paralympics were still on.
  3. This Wednesday, me and my girlfriend are going to London. While we are there, we will do some caches. Now, all of the caches that are located around our hotel where we are staying, are disabled. But on the cache pages, there it says that the caches will be enabled once again once the olympic games are over. Since they are over, they should be enabled again by their CO's. However, this did not happen. Will these caches be made available once again?
  4. Glad you guys like the thread! Tons of good info here. Keep it goin'!
  5. Another thanks for the input guys! And mike, I'll check it out as soon as geocaching.com is back online!
  6. I am wondering what makes a geocache a great, memorable event that people will talk about and love to complete. I've got two of my own caches, one with 2 favourite points and one with none. Both are easy caches, normal sized containers. The one with the favourite points is a more creative cache with a backstory, I'm planning on making a series around that story and lay more caches in the area. But it's hard to find great ideas or fun ways to hide a cache. I haven't really seen any "WOW" caches and I feel I have to come up with one. So the list.. I think this list will help me - and you - to hide better, more fun geocaches. The character of a "WOW" geocache: - Beautiful, remarkable natural environment (eg. A mountain, a field of grass in the middle of the woods with a pond, a cliff, ...) - Interesting buildings (eg. a cathedral, a castle, ...) - Interesting history (eg. battle of Hastings, person x died here by y, ...) - A fun way to retrieve the cache (eg. fishing for one, diving for one, a puzzle, ...) - Interesting hides (eg. cache in a special container, ...) - Backstory (eg. solve a murder, ...) - Not easy, but not that hard either - ??? I hope you guys and girls can help me, and other potential CO's out here by adding to the list.
  7. My cache bag contains the following: A camelbak (3 litres) A flashlight Pair of tweezers Assortment of throw-away gloves Handkerchiefs Zip ties Two knives Some small papers Alphabet decoding papers (a=1, b=2, c=3 and a=26, b=25, c=24, ...) Pens Sometimes some snacks Extra pair of batteries Travel bugs Swag to trade That's about it, of course I always carry my smartphone, my GPS, my keys and my wallet with me.
  8. Once a week, sometimes more depending on whether or not I'm going on a one day citytrip.
  9. - Gas money - No car available - Local caches running out - I recently acquired a girlfriend. She devours time.
  10. Aye that's my intention too but we don't have a lot of "wow-ish" nature here in Belgium so we have to find some spots in the forests and cities. I've just read the "weird cache container" thread and I got some more ideas now.
  11. Hey guys and probably girls, I've just hid my first cache a few days ago and it's a simple "go to x, see obvious hiding spot, grab cache, sign log, cya" cache. It's a 1/2 cache. I'm wondering how I can make my next cache a bit more exciting and fun. And maybe a little bit harder. But the emphasis should be on fun. Any ideas for a puzzle or some sort of fun container, hiding spot, way to operate the cache, ... are welcome!
  12. I've just bought a Benchmade Marc Lee Glory Knife but I have yet to use it. I really should go on a camping trip in the near future...
  13. Thanks Mulvaney! I've got the logs and hint thing working now. I have to wonder though, why they don't do this automatically when you click on the "Send To GPS" button at the cache page. Anyway, it works. I'm looking in the pocket queries now, looks great for when you are going to cache all-day long. Thanks!
  14. I just got my Garmin GPSMAP 62s and I decided to try the 30-day free premium membership trial. I activated it and put some caches on my GPS (by using the website transfer thingie), but it's not working. I can see the caches, I can navigate to them but I can't see the hints, nor the comments. I can access premium member stuff on the site itself though, just not on my GPS. Any idea what's wrong?
