  1. This confused me at first as well. Does anybody activate a coin, mark it as a collectible and then but it in cache for someone else? I guess you could do that for a FTF prize but I've only seen unactivatied trackables as FTF prizes.
  2. Regardless if he had fun or not, he should not be claiming it as a find if he didn't find the final. I'm sure I would have fun finding a bunch of challenge caches but if I didn't qualify for them then I shouldn't be claiming them. It cheapens the effort of others if someone can claim a multi because he found stage one but not the final. The CO set the perameters for his cache and the cacher in question didn't meet them, therefore no find, regardless if he knew all the "intricacies" or not. Yes it is a game but even the most basic games have rules.
  3. The cacher in question didn't find the cache so that shouldn't be a problem. I guess they could muggle stage one though.
  4. The only time I have been questioned by LEO was looking for a cache at a playground. It was early in the morning just as it was getting light so no kids were around but being a micro in a evergreen tree I was looking for a long time. The officer wanted to know what I was doing to that tree. When I explained geocaching to him he thought it sounded like a giant waste of time but helped me looked for a few minutes. Never did find the blasted thing though.
  5. If you think it is so dumb why did you do it in the first place? At least you won't be littering the forums with your comments anymore.
  6. Hmmm, posting a big rant about complainers and then telling people to "lighten up" sounds a little off to me.
  7. That is pretty cool, I hope I'm still able to geocache when I'm 87. Good for him!
  8. If you love it, are having fun, and have the time and resources for it then good for you. I was I had the time and resources to cache as much as I wanted. Happy caching
  9. I collect baseball cards as well and have often left them in caches. I usually but two cards in a soft plastic card sleeve and put them in the cache. I have found the soft plastic sleeves for sale for about 2-3 bucks for a pack of 100. The cards I leave in caches are of players that don't have a lot of value so I don't worry too much about them staying in mint condition, I just don't want them to get wet or soggy. If you didn't want to do the soft sleeve thing you could always put a stack of them in a small ziplock bag and put them in the cache. They might not stay in perfect condition with them loose in a bag but non collectors aren't going to care. My nephews would be way excited if they found some cards in a cache, even if the corners were a little dinged up.
  10. Completely agree with the above statement. I don't like people watching me when I cache, let alone being filmed. I would most likely pass on this one if I saw something like this in the description.
  11. I've heard of treehuggers but this guy took it a little too far.
  12. I love hitting a hiking trail and if there are caches along the way thats great but having a young family has really cut into my hiking time. So most of my caching is done after work. I work a 10-12 hour graveyard shift then have a 45 minute drive home. There were many mornings where I nearly fell alseep at the wheel. Since I discovered caching those days are pretty much gone. I usually get a couple on my home so with me stopping and getting some fresh air and the thrill of a hunt I no longer worry about falling asleep. Who knows maybe geocaching has saved my life?
  13. I guess its better for us that they are abducting caches and not people.
  14. Wow! Either a cable car or 1156 steps to get there huh? So thats what a 1.5 terrain?
  15. I work 40 hours a week, so I am on the website and looking at the forums about 37 of those hours. Don't tell my boss! Just kidding it is more like 10 of those hours. I really hope my boss isn't a secret cacher.
  16. One of the things I like about geocaching is that it has a little bit of something for everyone. I am an avid hiker and mtn climber and enjoy caching while doing that. I also take care of my nephews a couple times week, one of them being autisic. I could never take him on long cache hunts because he is not able to focus for more than a minute or so. So I will specifically look for lamp post or guard rail caches so he can expierence the thrill of finding a cache. Some of my most fondest caching memories is seeing his excitement when finding these type of caches. Just because you don't particulary enjoy them doesn't mean they should be banned. Different people like different things and thats one of the things that make this game great.
  17. So instead of putting all my junk I don't want on craigslist, I can just go put in the woods and don't have to bother with people coming to my house. Sounds ok to me.
  18. Actually, legality doesn't necessarily mean in regards to state or federal laws and, in this case, means conforming to a set of established rules set by this site for the game of Geocaching. Obviously the rules behind it are extremely loose, therefore I'm in the process of creating as new style of caching which involves utilizing Google Earth to search out cache locations and virtually signing them with notepad on the computer. We've coined the name GEOcaching(Google Earth Operated caching) for this purpose and have estimated we can log roughly 652,163 caches per 24 hours. By my calculations, the wife and I will claim a "WIN" in less than 3 days for being the first cachers to find EVERY active cache! Wish us luck! After reading this post my mom told me she wishes I was more like you.
  19. I found a cache the other day that was filled with pinecones (non shiny pinecones!) I dumped out the pinecones and replaced with rocks. That is trading up isn't it?
  20. All this cheeseball and drive thru talk is seriously making me hungry. MMM..cheeseballs
  21. Coldgears I can tell you have never been to Portland. Portland is one of the rainiest cities in the US. There are deserts in eastern and central Oregon but pretty far away from Portland.
  22. I was climbing Mt St. Helens about a month ago (found a cache near the summit). While coming down a ridge line we saw a cougar descending a rocky slope about a half mile away. About a minute later on the other side of the ridge we saw a black bear trying to climb a scrubby tree. Crazy to see two predators so close and within a short time frame. Pretty neat climb.
