  1. Oh friend, how right you are!! We constantly strive to trade up and when we find a cache full of broken & damaged items, we "take" them all and "leave" better goods in their place. Sadly, we've had to do this type of exchange more often than expected, but we feel that the cachers who come along after us deserve better goods at the end of their hunt. Who wants to see the face of an excited little kid on their very first family cache hunt opening the coveted "treasure chest" only to find it full of trash instead of "treasures." The WORST "trade item" we ever discovered in a cache was (are you ready for this one?) A DIRTY BABY'S BIB !!!!!!! Now that was a nasty piece of work. Better to TNLN than to leave something like that for the next cacher...
  2. What a GREAT idea!! We have run across this Personal TB idea several times in the various forums, but it was never explained as clearly as it is in this thread. As we have several un-activated TBs we will start one today. What a great way to track your own caching travels -- and since we're so new , we don't have much "catch-up" to do. Thanks for the info!
  3. We have been releasing our first flurry of TBs and have noticed that they (obviously) begin to accrue mileage when they log INTO the SECOND cache that they are placed in. Because we sould like to track the mileage they accrue from as close to our home as possible, we want to know what the protocol (or opinions) are about logging our new TBs into & out of one of our own caches that is closest to our home so that the mileage will begin tracking from there. Then when we "release it" (meaning actually leave it) in a cache, the mileage will have begun to track. Since we wouldn't actually be placing & retrieving it from our own cache (except "virtually") or logging it's visit except online , would this be an acceptable practice to most cachers? And would it be possible to go back and log our already-released TBs (they're less than 2 months old) through one of our own caches to "correct" their mileage so that it begins here at their origin? Let us know what you think! Thanks for all input.
  4. We are really finding the map feature useful for locating caches that are in our line of travel on any particular trip. We are also becomming interested in Benchmarks as there seem to be MANY unlogged ones in our area. Is it possible to add a Premium Member feature that would show & locate the logged & unlogged Benchmarks that have waypoints? All on the same map, at the same time -- the way caches are shown? Sounds good to us, but we would have no idea of the work involved in accomplishing such an addition to the map feature. TFT whole caching game! --TwoOldBears
  5. We will be flying on a commercial airline & want to know about taking our GPS unit with us -- hope to share our new love of geocashing with neices, nephews, and grandkids but don't want our GPS unit to be pilfered from checked baggage or confiscated at airport terminal. Anyone have any experience traveling by air with their GPS recently? All information wecome. Thanks!
