  1. Stay away from spacecenter systems.co They screwed up and it cost me $20
  2. just dont buy from space centersystems.com
  3. I wanted to purchase a GPS reciever for my son's palm TX I thought I found a good price @ space center syst. but they had the wrong picture and part number together. I knew what I wanted looked like but I did not know the mfg part number. After recieving the wrong item I had to pay to ship it back to them and now they will not credit shipping. I'm out $25 and have nothing to show for it. it's been a week since someone there signed for the return via FEDEX. Now 2 days after recieving an E-mail about the credit my account has has not been credited. in my opinion this internet seller is the worst
  4. I bought my Pioneer about 8 years ago. It now belongs to my son. It's slow and loses signal like a Garmin, no WASS and any magnetic field throws it off but it still works. I think you should keep it for now and save your pocket change for a year and get something more up to date in the $400 range with the activities you describe you wont regret it.
  5. I called customer service because my platinum would not turn on. The Rep. sugested I send it in for replacement, even though he knew it was over a year old and the warranty expired. They returned to me a reconditioned unit that looked like new and it only cost me postage to send my old unit to them
  6. Heres something I found on another site apparently if you drink bottled water you may be on their hit list Eco-Terrorists Leave Incendiary Devices at Michigan Bottling Facility- (09/26) Michigan In a recent act of ecological terror, Earth Liberation Front (ELF) activists broke into a Michigan water-bottling facility and planted four incendiary devises. The group threatened that, "When all legal avenues of dissent have been undertaken to no avail, only one option remains: illegal direct action." On September 22, four plastic bottles containing flammable liquid were discovered at the Ice Mountain Spring Water Company in Stanwood, Michigan. The ELF, a group known by the FBI as one of the most active domestic terror organizations, claimed responsibility for the action. "We will no longer stand idly by while corporations profit at the expense of all others. To this end, we have taken action against one of the pumping stations that Perrier uses to steal water," the Earth Liberation Front said in a news release. Animal rights terrorists also claimed responsibility for the recent bombing of Chiron Corporation’s offices, a biotechnology firm near San Francisco. A group calling itself the Revolutionary Cells Animal Liberation Brigade left two pipe bombs equipped with timers outside the Chiron offices. The FBI is investigating these acts. The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is working with the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a bipartisan membership association for conservative state lawmakers, to help curb attacks like these by promoting the Animal and Ecological Terrorism Act (AETA). The bill creates penalties for persons encouraging, financing, assisting or engaging in acts of animal and ecological terrorism. “The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance is eager to combat animal rights terrorism,” said U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance President Bud Pidgeon. “We are working with legislators across the country to introduce the Animal and Ecological Terrorism Act. Five states have already passed or introduced legislation that will punish those who use violence to intimidate legitimate researchers, business people, farmers, sportsmen and others.” ALEC echoed that statement. “Most states make no legal distinction between a disgruntled youth vandalizing a public park and an organized eco-terrorist torching a family’s home,” said Sandy Liddy Bourne, advisor to ALEC’s Homeland Security Working Group. “The legislation specifically addresses actions that are designed to intimidate, coerce, invoke fear, or other forms of terror that are committed in the name of environmental or animal rights activism.” For more information about the legislation, contact the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance at (614) 888-4868 or email info@ussportsmen.org.
  7. The only wildlife the Animal Rights community has actualy helped are, Sharks (read Lawyers), While the hunting community pours millions and millions of dollars back into the landscape every year. Every bullet , firearm ,Bow and Arrow, fishing Rod and lure,Etc. is Federaly taxed at a rate of around 11% through the Pittman-Robinson (PR) and Dingel Johnson (DJ) federal excise taxes These monies are distributed back to the state wildlife agencies based on numbers of Hunting and Fishing licenses sold to be spent on projects that benefit game and non-game species alike.
  8. Also invest in a SD card Reader Writer, they cost about $20 and can save hours when loading maps to the card. This will also allow you to save multiple maps to the card without overwriting the existing map. This is how you can have maps from S&D and TOPO on the same card
  9. They replaced my Platinum even though it was more than a year old and the warranty had expired. I have no reason to think they won't repair or replace your unit. I had mine back in less than 2 weeks not making up any stories for faster service.
  10. Reads like I'm going to invest another $100? into my Platinum
  11. I think robert may need a spellcheck as that should be, menu->card utilities->change map. That is assuming you have firmware 3.12 or better
  12. Don't be afraid to call Magellan. I had similar problems with mine twice. They recently replaced my GPS even though it was more than a year old
  13. I believe you can place the card in the GPS go to "card utilities" and there is a format card selection there.
  14. Raven' Don't give up yet A couple of months ago I returned My Platinum for replacement With delivery confirmation requested. I never recieved the confirmation from the USPS but I did get a free replacement GPS even though the warranty had expired 2 months earlier
  15. 315 You have mail. note, although the coords given were 0.1 + 32.5 minutes, with no second or third decimal place my GPS showed an EPE of 6 feet at the hiding place
  16. From what I saw they looked very basic. All I could see was an arrow in a circle pointing to a programed waypoint.
  17. I go with TotemLake here! Although I did own a Magellan Pioneer purchased many years ago I did some Internet research on the newer units before deciding on the Platinum and discovering Geoching in the process. The point that swayed me was the expandable memory. You aparently have Internet access and only yourself to blame.
  18. Dont know if it's what you are looking for but heres a link to a crash site with a memorial from July 1928 http://www.pressplus.com/pinelands/people/pilot.html
  19. Did you register? when I did I got the endless loop but after closing the browser and going back here's what I do, 1) Magellans main page 2) click on the June 27'th announcement 3) here you can either register or "click here to begin your search" I now click the latter 4) that brings me to a log-in page with my E-Mail address and password already filled in If you forgot your password there is a line to click to have a new one sent to your registered E-Mail address 5) then I click log in
  20. I purchased MapSend TOPO from them a year ago. They sent me the wrong Item twice. they gave me a UPS number to return them so it did not cost me anything extra but time and a couple of phone calls.
  21. GEOPERNUS look into Red Wing boots I wear a 13H and they have them.
  22. I have a meridian platinum that I am happy with. It does not have an altimeter but it has a barometer and we both know how the trout bite as the pressure is droping. It also has a best times to hunt/fish which has really worked for me this year. I have a 32meg card with the entire state of Pa. loaded from the TOPO cd and that leaves me room to save a few waypoints or tracks. My old GPS a Magellan Pioneer only came off the shelf when I went hunting or fishing, the platinum with topo maps goes everywhere!
  23. when you turn the unit on If you are asked to press enter at a Woodalls screen your maps and points of intrest are loaded and your unit knows they are there
  24. I sugest you check out, http://cabelas.com/ they have lots of clothes in big an tall sizes. We hunters have been fighting the thorns and bugs alot longer than geocachers. If you have wide feet like me (13-H) I swear by my redwing boots they are the only boot I've found available in the, EEE, H Widths [This message was edited by MACpa on May 10, 2003 at 05:57 AM.]
