  1. I'd have to open my e-mail from another portal to be sure, but just had the same thing happen. Did the web updater several times finnaly leaving it on overnight jacked in and on. When i checked the next morning it was online. They mentioned doing an hard reset by pushing the page, enter(thumb stick on a Rino) and the power up button last simaltainiously. ALL data was lost but the satalites were there as well.
  2. It wasn't tunred on when she had it. That would have been interesting to see.
  3. The $90 flat rate is posted on thier web page for service after warrenty, that is now over by one year. I don't think they would warrent against the flying lessons by a grand daughter. I would like to know if any here had opened one up though.
  4. A sad tale to tell. Grand daughter got a hold of my Garmin Rino 120 and gave it flying lessons. Wife and daughter didn't catch on until after the fact. The case and outer shell held up very well but when you boot up and wait for the confermation that its working it keeps telling me it has poor reception, move to a clear area over head. Done that and in checking on the satelite page only shows one satelite showing like that is all its seeing. I suspect the antena has a broken wire or something. For service its a flat rate of $90 and you'll get your unit back after a period of time or a factory refurbed unit. Would it be worth my time and effort to open up my unit to see or would Garmin see it was opened and say NO to my unit being repaired for said amount. I'm interpiting this as being flat rate nonnegocitable for repairs to the unit. What have I got to loose. I am a competant tech of electronics and computers and think I could open it and see if there was anything I could do for it. Any sugjestions are appreciated.
  5. OK First major reply here. 3 buttons on left; Top is a radio funtion/noise maker. Next is the radio talk/transmit key. Bottom small key pages through the GPS/radio funtions. The 3 butons on the face are ; Left radio volume contled by the button/joystick in the middle. Middle as metioned is a joystick funtion used through out the unit to hight light and goto funtions on the screen. Right is a zoom function contoled by you guessed it the middle button. Down looad the docs from Garmin if you've lost yours. They really are needed to learn how to use it. I refer to mine still after having mine for a year.
  6. Yes please post. I'm new to this and need all the help I can get. Thanks
  7. One aspect of this is that I can see where all of the old rail beds are and that there used to be an intermitant stream run through the nieghborhod half a blck away from me. If garmin is up to version 7.who knows what, I'm guessing that there must have been alot of bugs or stuff they wanted to roll out to keep us coming back to buy the newest version. Didn't Microsoft get a lawsuit over this??
  8. I've recieved a Garmin Rino 120 for my 30th year with my company. To load maps into the unit am I limited to Mapsourse or are the free maps available as mentioned in the Dummies Guide to GPS? I've loaded from a friends version 3.0 Mapsource Topo, the area where we live , the maps seem outdated by about 20 years. The local Sporting goods shop want $100+ and Ebay they go for around $80 ish. Does the Garmin work only with Mapsource? Thanks for any help.
