  1. Why don't one of you internet savvy folks put up an independent ratings site somewhere and let everyone post names dates and complaints there for all to see without any shutdown?
  2. I found a coin yesterday that escaped my TB bag. I thought I had left it at an event and indeed that is where it has been sitting for a couple of months. Oh well. I will log it and drop it in a cache. No harm, no foul. No need to mail it someone to do that. Likewise I get messages all the time from people who discover they still have one of my coins and are soooo embarrassed. I jst tell them no problem. It happens all the time. At times we think the worst of others, when in reality we are all just human. If someone wants to call me a thief for a mistake like this, let them. I could care less. I refuse to do it to others.
  3. I think presales are great myself. I just cannot make myself do the timed buying routine, usually because I never end up with anything but lots of frustration. I do not mind at all financing a new coin project if I think it is a good one. I normally will buy 5. I keep one activate one and trade or sell the rest to underwrite my coin obsession. Because many people feel like you I have lots of customers for the three I have to get rid of later and they are scarce since usually you could only get them if you did the presale. I would say it is a great way to get coins you may want if you are willing to wait for them. I have never lost money on a presale. I do not think Groundspeak should be the policeman here and do not think it is a good idea to suggest they disallow this activity. That would be a good way to see a competing service start.
  4. Then if I understand right there are only two ways to find archived caches, bookmarks and via users placed or found caches list. I would imagine for my area I could probably use the latter approach with greater success since there are some well known cachers here who have been at it since the beginning. They would have cleaned them all out as they were published. I have just about cleaned out my area to a radius of many miles so unless I want to go on a road trip, I can only sit and wait for another cache to be placed. There may or may not be a cache located at the spot when I go looking for it. I guess that would be part of the fun. By the way I do put out caches. I have placed more in Kansas than anyone else. I will return to this thread frequently to see if there are other suggestions or to update you on my findings in hunting down archived caches.
  5. I have occasionally found an archived cache. I even have one I own that is still quite active but cannot be republished because a new one was placed within 500 ft after this one was originally archived. People still visit it and log it though and the smiley's still work. BUt you have to know the GC number to find it on line. Well, that brings me to my question. Is there any way to do a pocket query for archived caches?
  6. I have found caches 50-70 from the listed coords. Usually it is due to someone just taking one reading and using that. Mostly it has been newbies. I try to meet them and show them how to average. I average 200 tines when I place and then walk in from different directions to check things. Usually this assures accuracy. Just normal error od 25 feet with one shot adds up to 40 or more when factoring finder error in. So if there are lots of hiding spots then you can get frustrated fast.
  7. Geocoins do get lost. Some lose more than others, but I am not sure why that is. Experience has shown that the majority are lost due to factos like muggled caches, newbies who do not know how to log them, oldies who forget they have them, slipped into the cushions, lost on the cluttered desktop, etc. Then there are a few theives, very few, who actually make a habit of stealing them for the pleasure of doing evil. But despite the fact that they are dispicable cads, they are not doing anything illegal. So you will see some of your coins go missing. You have to decide if it is worth it to put them out there and enjoy them while you can, knowing that eventually all things must die including geocoins and travel bugs and caches. It is the law of entropy and it is inescapeable. Whether to release a copy or a laminated card is up to you. I did that at first but not anymore. Matter of fact I now release more unactivated coins than activated ones. I get enough emails every day already everytime someone grabs a coin or travel bug. I guess I need to create a sockpuppet and adopt my coins to it to stop the flow. My mailbox gets full. But you will find that if you do put them out that the joy they bring is worth the heartache. At least it is for me.
  8. mine arrived today and they are beautiful
  9. I like all types of caches and some micros are fun to find. There are some kinds that can be frustrating. Those are the ones that are hidden in the woods, rock piles, cedar trees, the dreaded hanging in a pine tree with sharp needles, ivy and vines, tanks and cannons, the list goes on and on of the ones that burn up time and sometimes end in a DNF. And when you do finally find them they are just a log. These kinds of caches would be more fun and less frustrating if the owner gave a good dead giveaway clue so the geocachers could actually find the cache, but of course mugglers would not have the clue and probably not find it. Unfortunately some geocachers are in for the fun of making things challenging for others. I must admit I have done that sometimes especially out of revenge for someone doing it to me. YOU know who you are. I also like micros that take you to interesting or pretty places that you would not otherwise know about. Sometimes these spots are too public for a regular cache. I like P&Gs so I can cache in the rain and work clothes and when I only have a few minutes to cache. Skirt Lifters and guard rails are just fine with me. I like that quick and easy grab, sign and leave. I like power trails. I think they are fun to do and I like to rack up a bunch of numbers on a single outing. I am in it for the numbers and I think most people who say they aren't are fooling themselves and others. If they were not in it for the numbers why log the find on gc.com? Just sign the log book. Rarely do you find a TB, GC or SI in a micro. It is a real treat when you do. That is why I made my KS Sunshine GCs as micros so I can leave them in microcaches. These are the things I like to find in caches as well as items like cool keychains that make nice TBs. BUt I guess that what regular caches are for. The cute camo jobs I have seen on some micros are really fun and give you that moment of delight when you finally find them. I enjoy that and sometimes go back a number of times to find one I dnf'd because I know it will be worth it when I finally do find it. I use PAF and read previous logs when I have trouble with one. But I do not quit looking very fast on them. Some of my fondest caching memories are hard to find well camo'd micros. My wife, who rarely caches and does not even have her own account is really great at these, but she has a bad knee so she cannot walk on uneven ground. Only urban caches are accessible to her. I think it is silly of people to insist on putting out just large size caches. Variety is the spice of life. And that's what I have to say about micros.
  10. I do not enjoy finding religious material in caches I visit. My gut reaction would be to discard it. I don't though. I just leave it there. It is easier to ignore it than risk the chance of offending anyone.
  11. I just got some today in Walmart. My usual weekly supply.
  12. Hey, what's the deal? I drove over and found this one and then when I tried to post my find it said they were not allowing anymore log entries. Is this really fair?
  13. I have done a few caches with all kinds of strict rules and sometimes I get them right and sometimes not. Occasionally I get owners who get upset and threaten to delete my logs and that is ok if that is what makes them happy. BUt really lots of people do not even read the cache page because they are working off a GPSr with GSAK caches loaded and do not even know what the cache page says. You will make alot of enemies in your caching community if you keep deleting logs. I have a couple of extra effort caches like post a picture of a sunflower or such but I never delete a log on someone who choses not to do it. Why offend? It does not make me happy and certainly doesn't make them happy.
  14. Yes I put out one of these on a guard rail. Had a magnet in it. Lamost impossible to see. People loved it if they found it.
  15. Wow this is a really old old cache placed way back on 1/6/2001, hence the very low number. It has yet to be found. Surely there are some die hard cachers out there itching to make a name for themselves by being the FTF on a 7.5 year old cache!
  16. Yes, these are cave crickets, the orthopteran family Rhaphidophoridae. They are quite tasty.
  17. very nice. I love aviation themed coins.
  18. Sorry I missed this one. Anyone got any they want to get rid of?
  19. After reading this whole string it makes me sad to see someone has such a low regard for their own reputation as a seller not to do whatever is possible to make sure their customer is a happy satisfied buyer. Why do some people have such a low regard for their own reputation that they would sell it so cheaply? Sweetie needs to get some manners if she wants to keep selling things on-line.
